Chapter 6: Something Changed
The next day I went to the company on time, I have been working in this company for half a year, and I am not happy, I tried to find a reason to stay in this company for a long time, but I have not found it. This is a company called "Fushishan Cultural Research Center", the work content is very peculiar, mainly for some successful entrepreneurs to provide a place for self-cultivation, and enlighten them how to push away the complicated world, relieve the pressure and fatigue of business, let them get edification from traditional culture, to achieve a peaceful state of mind.
When I applied for a job at this company six months ago, the first interview I had was with a young man who was handsome. It's just that he doesn't work here anymore, and when I came to this company to take his place, he resigned, and he never contacted any of his colleagues again, and none of his colleagues contacted him. When he read my resume and asked me how much I knew about traditional culture, I replied that he knew a little bit about it, not much familiarity, and he asked me what the Four Books and Five Classics were, and I told him that the four books were "University", "The Mean", "Analects" and "Mencius", and the Five Classics were "Book of Songs", "Book of Rites", "Book of Rites", "Book of Changes" and "Spring and Autumn". After listening to it, he told me that it was not bad, and many people who came to apply for the job said that they liked traditional culture, but they didn't even know what the Four Books and Five Classics were.
After that, he gave me a job application form to fill out. There is a column in it for you to write a Tang poem silently, and you need to write the name and author of the poem. I silently wrote Liu Yuxi's "Wuyi Lane", the wild grass and flowers by the Vermilion Bird Bridge, and the sunset at the mouth of Wuyi Lane. In the old days, Wang Xie Tang Qianyan flew into the homes of ordinary people. There were three applicants and I filling out the application form in the conference room, and two girls, one for clerkship and one for finance, none of whom remembered much poetry. One of them secretly asked me who wrote the poem "When is the bright moon", and I told her that it belonged to Song poetry, not Tang poetry. She asked me to tell her a poem she filled in, and I told Zhang Ji's "Fengqiao Night Park", she was still somewhat impressed, and wrote it out with a few words of a little reminder. Another girl glanced at the table a few times and said, "What a?" Then he threw down his pen and paper, and turned away.
On the third day after handing in the form, the young man who interviewed called me to go over and take the retest, this time in person by the boss. It was another place to work, and the décor was very traditional, but very classy. The boss sat around a table with two employees, a woman in her forties, dressed in loose-fitting robe-like clothes with her hair tied up in a bun at the back of her head. Two employees dressed in ancient cotton and linen costumes, sitting upright, rockers straight, hands on their thighs, looking respectful, each with a cup of tea in front of them.
I was affected by this scene and felt that I couldn't be too casual, so I bowed at the door and humbly told them that I was here for an interview.
The female boss sitting in the first seat looked at me and asked me to go in and sit down. She pointed to the chair opposite her and asked me to sit down. Then I called out to a girl named Xiaoya and poured me a cup of tea. She first asked me some basic information, and I answered them one by one.
"What's your favorite Tang poem?" she asked.
I didn't have any favorites, so I said a random song and told her that it was Huang Chao's "Chrysanthemum". She told me to memorize it. I opened my mouth and recited it.
After listening to it, she said that in fact, I should like Li Bai's poems, her poems are written with great momentum. She turned to the employee on her left and said, "Xiao He, recite Li Bai's "Nanling Children Entering Beijing" for Mr. Lou. "That Xiao He is the person who interviewed me for the first time two days ago. Xiao He turned his head slightly, nodded to the female boss and replied, "Yes, master", and then recited it in a loud voice. When he recited, his voice was full-bodied, his expression was humble, and he was full of emotion. At that moment, I believe that he felt that he was Li Bai. After reciting, he turned his head slightly and nodded at the female boss.
The female boss also nodded with satisfaction, and then turned her head to me and said a lot of good things about Li Bai's poems. They just talked to me again about work.
At that time, I had no idea of working for this company at all, and I felt that the whole environment and working model were too contrived. All staff members are required to lead by example and be strict with themselves, and must copy the contents of a traditional book of at least 500 words every night, neatly handwritten, and submit it to the head of the department for review the next morning, if they fail to complete it, they will be deducted from their salary. Traditional linen clothing with a row of buckles must be worn during work. Colleagues are called brothers and sisters, and bosses are called masters.
The female boss's surname is Wang, and she gave the word herself a name called "Fallen Mountain Man", and she thinks that she has a profound study of traditional culture, and she practices it, in my opinion, in addition to doing it better, she is not necessarily so good at the research and understanding of traditional culture. At first, she only offered me a salary of 2,000 yuan a month, and I did not refuse her, I told her to let me go back and think about it. A week later she called to ask me what I was thinking about, and I told her I had decided not to work with her. She asked me why, I told her she was not happy with the salary, she asked me how much money was right, and I told her that it was at least six thousand. There was silence on the other end of the phone for a while, so much so that I had to call "Ms. Wang" to make sure she was still on the other end of the phone. She replied that she was thinking about it.
The next day, she called me to come to work.
I had a feeling that my conspiracy had been exposed, and I really had no intention of going to work with her, and judging from the salary of 2,000 yuan she said at the beginning, I said that 6,000 yuan would definitely make her think that I was really talking about an impossible thing, and I definitely had no intention of going to work with her. But I really didn't expect her promise, and I always felt bad when I tried to refuse. Of course, there is also the aspect that she gives an attractive salary. Although I have grown a lot, I have not shown the characteristics in the workplace that all bosses like, and I am well aware of my abilities and do not have too high expectations of myself.
Before that, I had a few years of work experience, and I also changed jobs during this period, and my social experience has allowed me to get rid of the childishness of my school days, and the types of people I have come into contact with have made me improve very quickly. I'll admit that I was a bit of an introvert in school, and I didn't want to deal with too many people or communicate too deeply with anyone. But now the situation has changed a lot, and I am proud of my ability to skillfully test the other person without letting them notice it when talking to them, and to see what the other person's psychological needs are from their language and micro-movements. Of course, this didn't help me financially, but it just made me feel like a fish in water in my previous job and got along very well with my colleagues.
In the interview chat with Boss Wang, this ability showed its practical value. I know what people like her need the most, she is a researcher of traditional culture, and this kind of person has a clear and lofty spirit in her bones. But they can't completely resist the temptation of the world, on the one hand, they are unwilling to give up this kind of nobility, so that the world thinks that they are no longer high, and on the other hand, they hope to live a comfortable life like a rich man. During the time when I was learning to paint, I was also tormented by this emotion, so I know that those who make culture into a business are deeply noble and worldly.
But more often than not, the worldly eventually takes hold. She is in the business of culture, and I praise her in my conversations, unconsciously in her conversations, and when she puts forward a point of view on traditional culture, I can immediately find a point of view from what I know about traditional culture that seems to be contrary to her, but in the end it can lead to the same end. After arguing with her and agreeing with her, I didn't make her feel that I was just accommodating to her, that it was just the result of the debate. She will feel that this is due to her excellent debate and intellectual capacity, as well as the charm of the traditional culture she loves. At the same time, for me, the person who debated with her, she would be more impressed and feel more intimate.
I have said a lot about what she is doing now, the company she has established, but the final conclusion points to one point: it is not that she is moved by the world, but that the world needs her to stand up.
I could feel that it was a very successful interview – even though I decided not to work there from the moment I first stepped in, I couldn't just walk away. I'm always respectful of people, and even if it's going through the motions, I'm going to take it very seriously. I'm hard to know if she'll find out if she'll find out the tricks I use to talk to her, and I think she probably knew—or she wouldn't have started such a company and still made money. Whether she knew it or not, she finally agreed to my salary request because she felt that my ability was exactly what her company needed.
In the end, I decided to go to Oshiyama Cultural Research Company for no other reason than because I couldn't find another job.
