Chapter 255: The Calm Before the Storm
Considering the threat posed by Malfoy and the rest of the Slytherins, Harry and Ron eventually convinced Hermione, who excitedly invited Evan to join the war between the two houses.
"What the hell happened in the morning?" Evan asked curiously, "How's Sirius' Dark Magic Defense Going, isn't there some accident?!"
The lesson went well, and he showed everyone the Banshee, a very interesting dark creature that always made a high-pitched, desolate voice, and although it was a little unlucky, she didn't do anything to hurt anyone. Hermione explained, "It was mainly Sirius, who made no secret of his dislike for Slytherin students in class, deducting a lot of points from them, probably more than a hundred"
"It's not Sirius' fault, it's Malfoy's provocation. Harry argued, "He was making trouble in Sirius' class and didn't do what he said. ”
"I know, Sirius is still too emotional, he's a professor now, and he's supposed to be fair to every student like Professor McGonagall. Hermione pursed her lips, making her look a lot like Professor McGonagall.
"Oh my God, do you know what you're talking about?!" Ron exclaimed in surprise, "a professor who leans towards Gryffindor, that's the biggest hope of my life." You're telling me now that I wish he could be fairer!"
"Sirius didn't overdo it, think about Snape, how he had treated everyone before, if it had been him," Harry added.
"Snape deducted at least two hundred points from Gryffindor this morning, and even scared a few girls into tears. Evan recounted what had happened in Potions class that morning.
"I knew it was going to be like this, that damn old bat. Ron said in disgust.
All in all, the enmity between Slytherin and Gryffindor was at an all-time high because of Snape's duel with Sirius, the unreserved dislike between them, and other long-standing feuds.
Over the course of the next week, the students of both academies were cautious. Everyone appeared in pairs in the castle, for fear that something would happen.
Although they were wary of each other, nothing actually happened.
With the intervention of Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall, the castle was strengthened, and neither Harry nor Malfoy had a chance to fight the so-called House War.
As time went on, Snape and Sirius also converged a lot, and the fact that they deducted points from Gryffindor and Slytherin slowly stopped, but Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts became the two favorite and most hated classes for Gryffindor and Slytherin students.
Compared to the heavily divided Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts classes, Hagrid's Protecting Magical Creatures class was unexpectedly well received by everyone.
At the suggestion of Evan and Hermione, Hagrid chose the magical creatures of the first class of the new semester as fire monsters. He started a fire in the field, full of fire monsters, for everyone's amusement, collecting dead branches and leaves to keep the fire going, and fire-loving lizards jumping around on the burnt, self-heating wooden blocks.
Almost everyone said it was the best class Hagrid had ever taken.
A week after the start of the school year, Ravenclaw and Slytherin played a Quidditch match, which Slytherin won, but the score was close.
According to Wood, this is good news for the Gryffindor team. Because, if Gryffindor beats Ravenclaw, it can still be in second place.
The match drew attention to Quidditch, and they found it more practical to decide the winner than the illusory House War. Gryffindor had previously lost to Hufflepuff, but they are still the favourites to win this year thanks to Harry's firebolts.
Gryffindor's Quidditch team now trains at least five times a week.
In the cold January winds, Harry flew outside for five or six hours almost every day, and he didn't even have time to finish his homework.
Evan also felt that he was running out of time, and he was at a bottleneck in his magical research, and he needed to devote more time. Evan had studied all the instructions Tom Riddle's Diary had given him last year, and he was now working on the dark arts books he had taken from 12 Grimmauld Place.
The magic recorded in these magic books, especially "Secrets of Cutting-edge Black Magic", is very profound and complex, and there are many places that Evan can't understand at all.
He couldn't take the dark magic books and ask Dumbledore or Sirius, he had to study them secretly, and he spent more and more time in the library, and the librarian, Madame Pince, looked at him more and more strangely.
With Sirius's approval, most of the magic books that Evan now borrows and refers to are very old and unpopular magic books, all of which are in the forbidden area. These books are rarely used by twelve-year-old wizards, even adult wizards.
The only one busier than Evan was Hermione, because there were so many classes to choose from, and the weight of the course was finally revealed on her.
Every night now, when she's either studying in the library with Aven, she's always in a corner of the common room, with a few tables in front of her that are spread out with textbooks: arithmetic charts, dictionaries of magic, illustrations of Muggles lifting heavy objects, and a wide range of notes.
She rarely spoke to anyone else these days, except for Aven, and if someone disturbed her, she would speak in a vicious voice.
"What the hell is going on with the two of them?" Ron finally muttered to Harry one night, "I've never seen anyone busier than Evan and Hermione right now, not even Percy preparing for the Advanced Wizard Rank exam. The two of them read more books in one day than I read in a semester. ”
"I don't know!" Harry didn't look up, he was writing a paper on undetectable poisons assigned by Snape, "how about we borrow Hermione her Potions class homework?"
"Better not, she won't agree. Ron looked up at Hermione again, she was sitting behind a crumbling pile of books, almost out of sight.
"Hermione was so weird, how could he possibly take so many classes. Ron continued, "This morning, I overheard her talking to Professor Victor, the witch who taught arithmetic divination. They were talking about yesterday's homework, but Hermione couldn't have gone to arithmetic and divination class yesterday because she had taken a lesson on protecting magical creatures with us! And Ernie McMillan told me that Hermione had never missed a Muggle studies class, but that half of the class was in conflict with the divination class, and she had never missed a divination class. ”
Harry knew why, of course, but he had to keep it a secret.
He couldn't talk about the time turner, and he had to get Snape's paper done by now.
The confrontation between Snape and Sirius was calm on the surface, but in reality there was still a turbulent undercurrent. Harry had to be more careful, at this point, if he had any tricks in Snape's hands, he would die an ugly death.
"How about I go to Aven for help and ask him to borrow my homework for me, Hermione will definitely not refuse him. Harry changed the subject.
"That's a good idea, but only if you can find Aven. Ron said, "Aside from Hermione, I also want to know what Evan has been doing these days, he was in the library every night, and a few times I saw him, he always had a thick magic book that no one could read. (To be continued.) )
