Chapter XVIII: The Rescuer
In the mountains west of the Duchy of Basol lies an ancient underground mausoleum hidden by anti-reconnaissance magic. Under the movement of the mountain, over time, the soil on it was continuously superimposed layer by layer, and the whole tomb was buried deep into the ground.
The mausoleum, which was supposed to have been abandoned by time and disappeared forever in the long river of history, has been recreated for some unknown reason. I don't know if it was because of the earthquake or human influence, but it was a huge crack in the ground that led to the ancient mausoleum.
Judging from the material and design of the mausoleum, it should have been built a thousand years ago, but it is not known who the owner of the mausoleum was and why it was built here, the only thing that is certain is that the owner of the mausoleum did not want to be disturbed.
The passages inside the mausoleum are as dense as a spider's web, giving the impression that once you enter, you will never be able to get out. This is the resting place of the dead, the kingdom of darkness and eternity, and the place where the undead roam freely. No visitors are welcome, or hostile to life.
However, at this moment, in these passages without a trace of light, there are three humans running fast, and they have carved special symbols on the walls, and they have detailed maps of the underground mausoleum on paper.
Originally, in such an environment, human beings could not work, because it lacked the two necessary conditions for human activity, namely air and light. And the reason why the three people in front of them can operate normally depends on the profession they are studying. The thief class who is good at hiding his breath has a fairly advanced skill called "Turtle Sucker", which can reduce the frequency of breathing and heartbeat to one-tenth of what normal conditions are, although there will be some ups and downs depending on the individual's ability. On the other hand, the eyes of the three people are wearing magic glasses with night vision, and in addition, each piece of equipment on the three of them is magic equipment, which can be said to be a "god costume" that ordinary people dare not imagine at all. It is precisely because of this equipment that the three of them can easily move through the large number of undead.
They are three outstanding thieves specially selected by the Thieves Guild for this investigation. In this world, each profession has its own guild, for example, a warrior has a warrior guild, and a mage has a wizard's guild. The main role of these guilds is to teach technology, and ordinary people can enter the corresponding guild to learn the corresponding technology as long as they spend a certain amount of tuition, of course, there are two guilds with the exception of the Wizard's Guild and the Priest's Guild. If you want to enter both guilds, you will need to go through a series of magic tests, and the guild inspectors will use the results of the tests to determine whether you have the potential to practice magic. Of course, the specific test content is not the focus at this moment, so I won't introduce too much here.
Most of the people who enter the guild will be eliminated under the rigorous teaching, and the few students who successfully pass the examination and successfully obtain the corresponding professional qualifications will generally become adventurers. Therefore, the Adventurer's Guild and the professional guilds can be said to be a cooperative relationship, and the Adventurer's Guild usually entrusts the professional guild to recommend the corresponding talents when carrying out some special work. For example, this investigation of the mysterious mausoleum belongs to this kind of special work.
When doing these special jobs, in order to improve the survival rate of the workers and ensure that they bring back useful information, the adventurer's guild usually lends a lot of expensive items to the workers, which is why they carry so much magical equipment at the moment.
"That's almost the end of the drawing." Stopping the magic pen in his hand, a thief who looked a little old let out a long breath.
"Then let's get out of this place quickly," the tall, thin thief whispered as he looked around.
"Stretch out your hands, and I'll use the teleportation stone," said the remaining thieves, pulling out a stone from their backpack that emitted a faint purple light. He had a well-proportioned figure, and judging from his facial features, he should be the youngest of the three, only about twenty-five years old.
The three of them put their hands on the teleportation stone at the same time, and as the magic spell was recited, the eyes of the three of them were instantly surrounded by purple light, and when their eyes could see the scene again, they were already on the ground.
"It's a really annoying feeling!" The tall and thin thief patted his chest and complained.
"You should be content, if you go back the way you came, you will lose your life if you are not careful, this level of discomfort is nothing compared to this." The eldest thief's face was also a little pale, but he was still happy to be back on the surface.
Although the teleportation stone is a magic item that can instantly teleport a person back to a designated location, it can cause a strong feeling of discomfort such as dizziness, vomiting, and fever to the body, and this discomfort will last for a whole day, which can be said to be the price that must be paid for using this magic item.
"Although the mission has been completed, for the sake of safety, let's split up and bring the map back to the Guild Alliance." The oldest thief, apparently more experienced, used the copy function of the magic pen to draw two more copies of the map and handed them to the two in front of him.
"Okay, then I'll go," the tall and thin thief took the map with a cheerful expression.
"Well, it's time for me to join up with my team." The young thief smiled lightly.
In this way, after saying goodbye to the two seniors, the young thief Peter walked briskly towards the place he had agreed with the members of his team. Despite his young age but already quite proficient in his skills, Peter is a rookie favored by the Thieves' Guild.
Peter's team of adventurers is called "Seven Feathered Eagles", and the rank is Ancestral Green, which is quite famous in this country. For this mission, he has been separated from his squad for almost a month. Because he had been in a dangerous environment where he could die at any time, he didn't have the extra energy to think about other things, but after successfully completing the task and completely relaxing his whole body, he realized that he missed his teammates so much.
Anjef, the captain of the three sentences that never left his daughter, Drucker, the vice-captain of Shinto, Arebak, who worked out all day long, Anne with a sweet smile, and Nick and Ranjes, who always revolved around for Annie, the cheeks of these people appeared in Peter's mind, making the corners of his mouth rise unconsciously. For Peter, who has been an orphan since he was a child and has never seen his parents, these teammates are his relatives, and as long as he is with them, he can feel a kind of home warmth, and the reason why he has worked so hard to hone his skills is to be able to protect this bond.
Peter's mouth was so dry that he stopped by the Benley River and took out a jug to get water from the river. This river is the largest river in the western part of the Principality of Basol and gets its name because of the strong currents.
Just as he was catching the water and straightening up, his eyes happened to see a person lying in the reeds not far away. Out of curiosity, he quickly leaned over, and as the distance closed, he saw that it was a naked girl, who must have floated here from the upper reaches of the river, her body was covered in blood clots from the rocks in the river, and her right hand had been cut off by some extremely sharp weapon, leaving a smooth face.
Presumably she was ravaged to death and thrown into the river, Peter thought, feeling angry and sad at what had happened to the girl.
Although she is dead, it doesn't feel good if you stay here, so let's bury her, Peter thought about it and walked towards the girl, and the girl's hand suddenly twitched at this moment.
If it were an ordinary person who saw this scene, he would definitely turn around and flee in fright, but Peter was an adventurer who had seen the world after all, and he put his face close to the girl's mouth and nose, and it seemed that he could still feel a faint breath.
"You're going to hold on!" Peter hurriedly unwrapped his clothes around the girl so that her body temperature would not continue to flow, and then quickly took out the advanced healing potion from his backpack and fed the girl to drink. However, the girl still did not get any better, and it seemed that her injuries were too serious, and she had to be taken to the priest for treatment immediately. Peter picked up the girl and hurried forward as fast as he could.
