In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

About 4.6 billion years ago, an interstellar cloud was brought together by gravity, and the angular momentum caused the material to collapse into a disk-like planet with the Sun and its surroundings. The diameter of this disk is about 50 astronomical units (1 astronomical unit is the distance between the Earth and the Sun), and almost all of the material of the disk is distributed in the periphery of the Earth's orbit.
