Chapter Seventy-One: The Chamber of Secrets
The silver light appeared so suddenly that before Gao Wen could see its shape, it had already disappeared from view.
Snape waited a few minutes before he straightened up again, his eyes full of disbelief.
"Jack-of-all-trades... Miss, go tell Professor McGonagall to come here as soon as possible, seal it off completely, and tell her Fawkes is in Professor Dumbledore's office.
As for you, White... Follow me. ”
Professor Snape's expression was so complicated that Gawain wondered if he had said the wrong thing or something.
And he even wanted Gawain to follow!
Gawain originally thought that he was here to set off a firework and blow up a bathroom, and he didn't even think about exploring the Slytherin Chamber of Secrets in the first place.
"White, is there anything I said you don't understand? Or is there something you can't understand with your skull, which isn't much bigger than a troll?"
A hint of displeasure appeared on Snape's face, and he raised his wand, and the fluorescent flickered out, but it flew until it disappeared, unable to see the end of the tunnel.
"I'll keep up when I think about it. ”
Snape's face became even more solemn.
Without waiting for Gawain's answer, he took a sharp step forward, stepped into the dark hole, and slid down.
"Gawain? Are you really going? I mean, it's a Slytherin chamber, and who knows if there's going to be something crazy in there?"
Hermione said worriedly that disobeying the professor's instructions and fearing for Gawain's safety were clearly contrary to each other.
Gawain was equally hesitant.
But he quickly made up his mind.
"Jane, hurry up and get Professor McGonagall, it's important to Professor Snape and me. ”
As he spoke, he took out a number of long ropes from the dragonskin's pouch and hooked them to each other.
Since the incident of "Stuffy Cutie", he has specially asked Colin to help order so many of these ropes in the ordinary world, so much so that when he writes back, he asks if Hogwarts is going to train Bond.
He fastened one end of the rope to the marble pillar of the bathroom, and the other end to his waist.
"Geronimo?"
Gawain took a deep breath and jumped down from the entrance of the passage.
It was a pitch-black tunnel, like a slide, and Gawain felt himself descending quickly.
"There must be some kind of spell guarding this place. ”
Gawain was quick to make a judgment.
Because the passage was much shorter than he thought. It didn't take long for his feet to touch the ground.
But it wasn't a flat marble or masonry floor, but a dense mass of fine bones. In the light of Snape's wand that had fallen, Gawain could see clearly.
"Mostly rats, chickens, and..."
A bitter stench, mixed with the heavy sour and moldy smell peculiar to the damp space underground, made him feel sick to his stomach.
Seeing Gawain, Snape looked even more unhappy. He glared at Gawain fiercely, and it took more than a minute before he looked away.
"Follow me, White. ”
Snape said in a flat tone, turning and walking deeper into the passage, but his footsteps always paused abruptly before he continued on.
Gawain was naturally able to understand.
After all, no one who doesn't have a mind that reaches the back of their head would wear a grounding cloak like Snape's to explore the vaults underground.
It's a big space.
It's about the size of the first floor of the castle.
But structurally, it's not complicated.
Gawain and the others continued to walk forward, entering the side of the corridor. Here are several huge snake moults, at least twenty feet long.
Perhaps it had been too long since they had dried and turned grayish-white, stiff as stone.
Soon, they came to the end of the road.
It was a huge iron gate, it was round, almost nearly two meters high, and the thickest point was nearly half a meter. On the outside of the door, there are seven serpentine traps, which may have served as deadbolts.
For Merlin's sake, Gawain almost suspected that the original Hogwarts was born not as a school, but as a heavy factory.
Such a thick secret metal door, even if Gao Wen buys a few hundred catties of saltpeter and lights it together, it may not make it have any pain.
But it's open at the moment.
It's wide open.
Through the doorway, they could faintly see a glowing green light flickering on the side.
This is by no means normal.
“Expecto Patronum!
(Calling the Divine Guard)"
With a flick of Snape's wand, the silver light sparkled through the door and deep behind it.
This time, Gawain saw it clearly.
- "Deer?"
They waited in place for a moment.
"Go on. ”
Snape said calmly.
They passed through the doorway and came to a small platform, but it was so dark that not even a single torch was lit.
From the side of the platform, Gawain found a high ladder, and they climbed all the way to the bottom.
"For Merlin's sake!"
Gao Wen couldn't help muttering.
But Snape didn't interrupt him for his ramblings.
Down, with the help of the glowing green light on the ground, they could see much more clearly.
This is the end of a stone chamber.
Quite a large stone chamber.
It is even more spacious than the castle's auditorium.
Towering stone pillars entwined with stone-carved pythons keep rising, disappearing into the dark ceiling.
The floor is paved with brick and stone, uneven, and covered with puddles of water of all sizes. At the end of the pillar is a sculpture of the same height as the stone chamber.
As if sensing the arrival of the two of them, two rows of torches lit up in turn on both sides of the hall, blazing brightly.
The green mist rises from underwater, soars into the air, and disappears into the ceiling.
"Salazar Slytherin. ”
Professor Snape looked up at the statue.
There was almost a bit of fanaticism in the tone.
Following his line of sight, Gawain looked. It was an old face, and he looked a little like a monkey, his sparse beard hanging down to the bottom.
Anyone can recognize the prototype of this statue.
Salazar really raised a bunch of losers, Slytherin.
He was not handsome, and even looked a little rickety. Even though he is only a statue, his expression is still full of arrogance, and his intricate robes inherit the Byzantine style of a thousand years ago.
But Gawain did not dare to doubt the cunning and viciousness of this old man, because it was he who used a devil's contract to suppress Ronan for thousands of years, but still made the centaur hold the idea of eternal life.
His mouth was open. ”
Professor Snape said suddenly, he had recovered from the excitement he had just had, and had once again recovered to a face that was no more expressive than that of a dead man.
Gawain also noticed.
Salazar Slytherin's mouth was wide open, and inside was a dark hole.
PS: The scene design mostly refers to novels, combined with movies. There is only one head in the movie, because it is said that the water is very high, but in the novel, it is said that the whole body...
