Chapter 553: Two Spirit Seats

Previous Chapter

You are already as far-reaching as the sea, so you can be so broad-minded, generous and loving, enlightened and enlightened. I support your lofty arguments and have decided to do charity, reduce the sin of killing, conform to the natural way of heaven, and respectfully observe the precepts. This is an act of great compassion with a heart of fraternity. I take your teachings to heart as a principle of my actions. Borrow the rare karmic cause and seek the blessing of the emperor. ”

In the ninth year of Zhenguan, Taizong issued an edict prohibiting killing from March to May.

Xuan Wan then asked for an extension of the ban period, and the emperor approved the extension of the period to the end of the year.

Xuan Wan fell ill in Zhenguan for ten years, and he knew that he would die soon. So he sent a testament to the emperor: "I heard that with the help of the abbot of Taoism and the help and maintenance of the court and the court, the Dharma can be carried forward and spread for eternity. There are many ways to be an abbot, and there are many ways to promote the Dharma. But if you don't follow the Buddhist scriptures, you will panic and fear that the rewards and punishments will not be appropriate. If you adopt the requirements of the Buddhist scriptures and put them into practice, then you will take fewer detours and be reasonable. Monks and nuns who do not follow the precepts and offend the rules and regulations should be punished as if they were the precepts. Old and faint, sick and painful, life will be over and your long grace has not been rewarded. Therefore, I compiled one volume each from the sutras of "The Three Jewels of Reward and Punishment for the Descendants of the Kings of Buddhism", "The Theory of Anyu and the Common People", and "The Three Virtues". I sincerely hope that the Holy One will personally inspect it and act on this. I have the privilege of joining the example of preaching, and I dare not conceal the teachings of not giving them, and I am recording here my humble opinions and words to repay the kindness of the Holy One. ”

Lawyer Xuan Wan died in Yanxing Temple on the seventh day of La.

When the lawyer was leaving, he said to the doorman: "My life is only for the benefit of sentient beings, and after death, the bones are burned according to the ancient system, and I don't care about the method of mourning after death." ”

After the lawyer left, there was a lot of mourning inside and outside the palace.

The Son of Heaven issued an edict saying: "Lawyer Xuanwan, the precepts are upright and firm, and his studies are clear and accessible. At a time when he was focusing on the proclamation of the Dharma and benefiting all sentient beings, he unfortunately passed away and expressed his deep sorrow. ”

Taizong, the crown prince and the harem concubines, as well as all the ministers, all offered their treasures to help the master with his funeral.

By the time of the 100th day, Xiao Yu, Xiao Jing, Li Boyao, Du Zhenglun and others went to mourn.

On the day of the burial, the plain building and the white cover reflected each other, and the fragrant flowers fell from the sky.

With the funeral, there were tens of thousands of people.

For forty miles, it was plain white. People are crying out, "My teacher is gone, who will protect the great cause of abstinence?"

More than 500 disciples of Xuanwan followed Xuanwan's will and incinerated his body.

At that time, the clouds were high and the wind was quiet, and the grass and trees were fragrant. Ignite the fire and burn the body, and after a while, it will be wiped out, permeating the heaven and earth, and later, in order to commemorate it, a group of stupas was built in the burning place.

After Yang Wei's wife became pregnant for the first time, her taste for food changed drastically, and she was disgusted with the spicy and fishy food she used to love.

Soon after, she gave birth to a girl named Shinxiang. Shin Xiang likes to be quiet, and there is no ordinary desire.

When Yang Wei's wife was pregnant for the second time, there were even more strange things, and her body did not feel uncomfortable, but felt at ease.

When the child was born, the mother did not notice it. After the child was born, he did not bring out a little filth, but filled the room with a strange fragrance.

The child did not cry a word. It wasn't until he was sensible that he never pulled the feces on the mat, and when his parents picked him up, he didn't urinate.

He was later known as the Great Virtue Huikuan.

When he was young, his arms were longer than his knees, and he liked clean and clean places, and he avoided fishy smells.

When he was five or six years old, he often sat in meditation with his sister.

Parents are surprised by their behavior and ask what they are doing.

They replied, "The Buddha came to us and told us about the wisdom of Prajna and the Dharma." ”

Then they talked about practicing the Dharma together.

Huikuan's father was originally a gentleman of Sandong Academy, Dr. Wuzheng, who had always believed in Taoism and Taoism, but he didn't know anything about Buddhism.

The father recorded the words of their siblings on more than 200 pages.

When the Venerable Master of Longhuai Temple heard about this, he went to Huikuan's house, and Huikuan's father showed the Venerable Master a record of their conversation.

Venerable Hui exclaimed, "These are all in line with the great righteousness of the Buddhist scriptures, and there is no mistake at all. ”

There was a mysterious Zen master, I don't know where he came from, who practiced in the Jinghui Temple near Huikuan's house, and cultivated to the realm of fire and light samadhi.

The Zen master sent someone to call Huikuan's sister, but when she reached the gate of the temple, she did not go in, saying that it was a "fire gathering".

The Zen master said, "Why don't you use water to extinguish the fire?"

Hui Kuan's sister immediately made a water view method and put out the fire and entered.

The Zen master knew that she had penetrated into the method of contemplation, so he advised her to become a monk.

But her parents set her a marriage.

So the lay people who believed in Buddhism pooled money with the monks to ransom her, and she was able to become a monk with her brother.

At that time, he lived in Yizhou with the king of Shu.

The king invited the Huikuan siblings to live in the city, and the princess built a temple for them.

As they walked along the road, they came across a man who was suspicious of Buddhism.

The two called this man to him: "Do not have a different heart in front of the Three Jewels, lest you seek hardship for yourself." ”

The man immediately repented and begged for forgiveness.

When they encounter great merit that requires money, such as building a temple, they can dig up money in the ground as long as they burn incense and pray.

When he was thirteen years old, he liked to sit alone and meditate.

Later, he listened to lectures from the Yin Zen master of Konghui Temple and the Hui Zen master of Longhuai Temple. He listened to the lectures and read them by himself, and he could never forget the scriptures he had read.

Never heard of the scriptures, ask him the questions in them, and he can explain them all-encompassing.

When he first arrived at Longhuai Temple, there were more than 200 monks in Longhuai Temple, and the Zen master asked him to work, but Hui Kuan was not allowed to do it.

Some monks complained about this. Master Hui said, "Hui Kuan was my teacher, how could I let him work? At the beginning of the Sui Dynasty, Buddhism flourished again, and I said goodbye to my teacher and went to Shu. Before leaving, the master instructed me: 'When you go to Shudi, there will be many disciples, one of whom is named Huikuan, and you should discipline him well.' 'I count the day of my teacher's death, which is the day of Huikuan's birth, so Huikuan's previous life was my teacher. ”

After that, no one mentioned the matter of letting Huikuan work. Hui Kuan was quiet in the temple and practiced karma.

At the age of thirty, Huikuan returned to his hometown of Mianzhu to spread Buddhism.

At that time, the people in Huikuan's hometown believed in Taoism. As soon as Huikuan arrived, everyone abandoned the Tao and followed the Buddha.

Huikuan's parents also converted to Buddhism, and donated their house to make a temple.

Each village in Mianzhu has built Buddhist halls for Huikuan, and there are more than 100 Buddhist halls in total.

During the Zhenguan period, there was a monk named Ce, who practiced mantras very deeply.

Ce lives in Luo County. One day, Ce died suddenly.

His soul was led to hell by imps, where he met Hades. Hades said, "There are many sinful people in hell, you should recite mantras for them, and you should also ask Gen-la Huikuan to give a lecture on the Hell Sutra." ”

Then, Tse woke up. He didn't recite the mantra for a whole month, and soon he died again.

After seeing the king of Hades, the king of Hades was furious: "I asked you to recite mantras and preach sutras to save sentient beings, why don't you listen to me." ”

After saying that, he ordered the bull head to hit him with a bell a hundred times.

Ce woke up again, did not dare to delay, and immediately hiked from Luoxian to Mianzhu. When he walked thirty miles away from Mianzhu, he was so tired that he couldn't take a single step, so he lay on the ground. Suddenly, a whirlwind blew, and after a while, he was brought to Huikuan.

Hui Kuan was lecturing to the people, and when he saw the strategy, he said, "You suffered yesterday! For the sake of benefiting all sentient beings, you must not be afraid of suffering." ”

Hui Kuan asked Tse to sit on the throne and recite the mantra, and most of the listeners were sweating. Kuan then went on to talk about the Hell Sutra.

There was a man named Song Wei in Mianzhu, who was not religious. He once said to others: "I don't believe in Buddhism, I only believe in King Wen of Zhou and Sage Kong." However, I have also been cared for by the Buddha twice. One time I found someone urinating at my door, so I put a bottle of Buddha statue there, and no one went to urinate anymore. Another time I fell into the cold water, and when I came out, I burned the wooden Buddha to keep warm. ”

When Hui Kuan heard about it, he wrote to warn him. Song Wei said: "Whether the Buddha Tao is effective or not, I have to try it." ”

After he pooped, he wiped it with the paper on which he wrote the letter. At that time, the door was broken, his legs and feet were not moving freely, and he kept singing: "I'm dead, I'm dead!" The family immediately invited Huikuan to come, and although Song Wei expressed remorse, he died in less than a month.

The family surnamed Chen in Shifang County wanted to give up the cult and believe in Buddhism, so they wanted to use their own bamboo garden as a temple.

They asked Hui Kuan to give them instructions on the fasting offerings, because they were going to make sacrifices before the temple was built.

Meikuan then cut down a bamboo tree and placed a note that read, "This is the place of sacrifice," where the bamboo was cut down. They were going to set up a temple in the middle of the garden.

When the temple was to be built, the verdant bamboo dried up on its own, and spring water gushed out from the place where the temple was built.

And he dug up a large stone in the ground beside him, and under the stone was a golden vase with a hundred relics in it.

Huikuan bowed to the relics, and the relics immediately shone brightly.

In the fourth year of Tang Gaozong's Yonghui, there were 500 gods, all of them more than one zhang tall, wearing bright clothes, holding fragrant flowers and purple golden flower platforms, coming from the west.

They were going to take Hui Kuan, who knew that his great day was near. But Huikuan thought that he could not accept such etiquette and sent them away.

On the night he was leaving, Hui Kuan had people bring water to wash his body, put on new clothes, and sit on his knees, holding an incense burner. Hui Kuan asked his disciples to ring the bell of impermanence, and the bell rang throughout the city. Hearing the sound of the impermanence bell, everyone said, "The Master has gone to Nirvana." ”

At this time, only the sound of mourning was heard in the air, and the temple was bright, but I didn't know where the light of Qingdao came from. Some people said that it was burning the temple, and everyone rushed to put out the fire, but there was no fire in the temple. Hui Kuan had already entered meditation and soon lost his breath.

There are three bridges in the temple. On the night of Keikuan's death, three bridges suddenly collapsed, and the sound shook the temple. The lotus pond in the temple, the water of the pond dried up, and the red lotus turned white.

There is a very thick Yu camphor tree in the temple, and suddenly it bleeds, and the blood flows into the mountain stream, and the water is red, and it flows for a whole month. The seventeen-level pagoda in the temple is dozens of zhang high, but it suddenly cracked.

Out of nowhere, two geese cried out to the master's corpse.

On the day of the funeral, there was a black cloud in the sky, and as the funeral procession fluttered, it continued to rain, and the grass and trees along the road wilted. When we reached the top of the mountain, the clouds dispersed. The people of Mianzhu, people over the age of seven wore mourning clothes and cried for the funeral of the master.

After Huikuan's death, everyone in Mianzhu had to set up two spiritual seats on the Buddhist hall, one was the seat of the holy monk, and the other was Huikuan's spiritual seat.
