Chapter 550: Lingyu Prophecy

Lingyu excused himself and said: "The virtue required by the capital is not the virtue of my Lingyu, the talent required by the capital, nor my talent. Since my virtue and ability are not required by the capital, it is indeed difficult for me to obey this matter. ”

Lingyu asked Yan Zhao to promote the Dharma again.

During Lingyu's five years in Yanzhao, the Dharma was propagated all over the country.

In the eleventh year of the emperor's reign, Emperor Wen admired Buddhism and wanted to invite senior monks to the capital to preach the Dharma.

Emperor Wen heard that Lingyu was famous all over the world, so he issued an edict and said: "Respected Master Lingyu of Xiangzhou Daci Temple, I respect the Three Treasures and return to Buddhism. Willing to promote the Dharma and protect Buddhism. The Dharma Master is profoundly virtuous, knowledgeable, well-versed in Buddhist scriptures, able to guide sentient beings, and respected by the Taoists. I want to make Jingshi a blessed place to promote Buddhism, so that people all over the world will admire it, and let people from all over the world take it as the center. Therefore, I would like to ask the Venerable Master to work with me to build the great cause of propagating the Dharma, and the Venerable Master should understand what I mean and enter Beijing as soon as possible. ”

Ten years after the emperor's reign, Lingyu once got a letter in the courtyard of Lingtong Temple in Luozhou, which foreshadowed Lingyu's future fate, saying that he would suffer bad luck in Xianyang.

Now that Lingyu has received the edict from Emperor Wen, he thinks that bad luck may be coming, because the capital is not far from Xianyang after all.

Lingyu could excuse himself from his illness at that time, but he thought that this was a good opportunity to promote Buddhism, so he ignored the letter and walked to Chang'an.

After Lingyu arrived in Chang'an, the emperor sent people to condolence and let him live in Xingshan Temple.

Emperor Wen also issued an edict to ask Yousi to convene prestigious monks from all over the country to discuss the unification of Buddhism.

When they were deliberating, they all agreed. Lingyu said, "The various schools of Buddhism are originally the same, but they are different from each other.

Lingyu felt that it was disadvantageous to promote the Dharma in Chang'an, so he went to Emperor Wen and asked to go back.

Emperor Wen read the performance and agreed to his request.

At this time, the servants still wanted to establish the great unification of Buddhism, and asked Emperor Wen to let Lingyu stay.

When Lingyu learned of this, he was very angry: "The lord of a country should not have two words. Now that I'm being asked to stay, it doesn't make sense. ”

Lingyu said to the disciples, "Imperial minister, I don't want to get too close to them, because that will only make them insult you and despise the Dharma. Stay away from them, but you can make them respect you a little more. I thought twice before I made this decision. ”

Then Emperor Wen sent an edict three times, asking Lingyu to discuss the matter of unification, and Lingyu excused himself.

No, Emperor Wen said to the minister: "I know that Master Lingyu is upright and upright, and he is a person who wants to be at ease, so we shouldn't force him." ”

So Emperor Wen sent another decree, asking the left servant to shoot high frequency, the right servant to shoot Su Wei, Nayan Yu Qingze, the chief manager He Ruobi and others to visit Lingyu, read out Emperor Wen's holy decree, and confess on behalf of Emperor Wen.

At the same time, he gave Lingyu three hundred horses of silk brocade, and built a temple in the mountain for him, and Emperor Wen personally inscribed a plaque and named it Lingquan Temple.

Lingyu In Lingquan Temple, Emperor Wen often wrote edicts to express greetings and constantly gave Lingyu many things.

From this point of view, Lingyu's approach to going out of Beijing is very wise.

Lingyu moved from Lingquan Temple to Yankong Temple, where he vigorously promoted Buddhism and practiced Buddhism.

People who want to learn the Dharma often go to the temple to ask for advice.

At one time, there were thousands of Fa students.

Lingyu passed on the Dharma and taught well, often using the deeds of great masters as a typical example, so that students of the Dharma could learn from them.

When a Shamen was about to return to his hometown to teach the Dharma, he came to say goodbye to Lingyu.

He asked Lingyu: "May I listen to your words and get to the heart of the Dharma, so that I can understand the Dharma and practice the Buddha's path according to it, and benefit from it for a long time." ”

Lingyu said, "When you came, I told you that when you were gone, I would give you something useful. ”

When the monk was on the road, Lingyu gave him a book: "The scriptures, the verses, the Zen, and the Vinaya may confuse your mind." Here's a copy of "The Biography of the High Monks" that you can use as an example that you can use for a long time. ”

After this monk returned to his hometown, he used this transmission as a reference and realized the wonders of Buddhism.

Once, Lingyu went to listen to Huiyuan**. In the middle of the lecture, Lingyu suddenly said loudly: "Huiyuan talks about the commentary of the Buddhist scriptures, and letting the monks cultivate, it is simply a demon theory!"

The people present were shocked and rebuked Lingyu one after another. Huiyuan walked quickly towards Lingyu, and Lingyu said to him: "I have heard that benevolent people preach the Dharma, and they always lead by example and demonstrate by example. This is because those who study the Fa want to have an example. ”

Huiyuan accepted it with tears.

Lingyu's behavior is pure and clean, and his righteousness is awe-inspiring.

Ever since he entered Buddhism, he has been able to keep the discipline himself.

And the older you get, the stricter the discipline, and the less vulgar feelings become.

His mother was sick, and Lingyu went to visit. Halfway through, he heard that his mother had died, so he stopped going.

He sighed and said, "I've come to see my mother, what else do I want to see now? Let's go back to the temple and prepare for my next life." ”

When he was nearly sixty years old, Lingyu's monastery already had two monks, but Lingyu had never had a separate living room of his own. When encountering words and deeds that violate the rules of the monks, Lingyu often makes him outstanding and admonishes him in person.

Except as permitted in the scriptures, women are never allowed to stay in the temple.

In the house where the woman lived, Lingyu never let the monks enter.

Only when the first is the case, women are allowed to enter the temple to listen to the Fa, and they must be the last to enter and first to exit.

Lingyu asked the monks not to wear silk and satin, and if he saw that the clothes were not up to standard, he would definitely deal with them in public.

Once, Lingyu discussed the issue of fame and small profits with others.

Lingyu said: "I have heard that gentlemen compete for fame, while villains compete for profit. ”

"The name comes from profit. The other party said.

"But if you get a small profit, you lose your name. Lingyu said.

The man said, "This kind of person is a hypocrisy." ”

Lingyu sneered: "This is far better than those who sincerely do bad things." ”

People passed on his words as good sayings.

There is a proverb in the Ye people to praise Lingyu: Master Yan is not vulgar, and Master Yu is vulgar.

During the reign of Emperor Wen of Sui, Emperor Wen issued an edict to distribute the relics to various states.

At that time, there were many strange signs, which were considered auspicious signs.

Lingyu said: "The appearance of white flowers, white trees, and white towers at the same time is a bad omen, in my opinion. ”

The people did not believe.

Soon, Empress Xian and Emperor Wen died one after another, and the whole country wore white clothes, proving Lingyu's words.

The foundation of the house where Xue Zhou lived suddenly turned into jade, and Xuan thought that this was Rui Zhao, so he set up a fast to celebrate.

Lingyu Says:

"This is glass, be cautious, not a blessing. ”

Xue Xuan didn't listen to Lingyu's words. Later, Yang Liang rebelled, and Xue Zhou was exiled to the frontier, only to remember Lingyu's warning?

But it's already too much to regret.

In the last years of Renshou, the Futu Pagoda was built in Hanling Mountain.

When the fourth floor was built, Lingyu urged everyone one morning, "I'm afraid things have changed, and we should work around the clock." ”

Sure enough, when it was about to be built to the top floor, it caught up with the Jinyang incident, and the construction was ordered to be stopped.

Lingyu also died the following year.

When Lingyu knew that he was going to die, he taught his disciples to do good and abstain from evil.

On the morning of the seventh day before his death, Lingyu put pen to paper and composed two poems.

The first one is:

The first chapter mourns and ends quickly

Sitting in the high hall today,

The Ming Dynasty lay on the long thorns.

Talking about oneself all his life,

Come and report what's going to happen.

The second song is:

The second is eternal mourning

Destiny is cut off,

The remains are sent to the ghost in front of the door.

From now on,

More geometric years.

On the night of Lingyu's death, he said to the waiter, "The pain is in the back, I'm leaving." ”

During the third watch, everyone only felt that the room was full of strange fragrance.

Very amazing. At this time, Lingyu had already entered meditation, chanting the name of the Buddha in his mouth until dawn, and finally passed away.

That year, Lingyu was eighty-eight years old. Everyone was grieved, and then buried Lingyu on the side of Lingquan Temple, and built a tower to commemorate.

Later, someone built a stone niche for Lingyu in Baoshan, called the Nalayan Cave, the abbot of Vajra Sexual Force, which was engraved with a picture of the time when the law was extinguished, and the deeds of Lingyu were written.

The mountains and forests are quiet, the language is sincere, and the deeds are clear. Every spring, the monks who visit the mountains have to talk about the inscriptions on the shrine, and they all admire Lingyu.

Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty sat high on the treasure chair of the main hall, and below stood hundreds of civil and military officials and a group of high-ranking monks summoned by him, and Huiyuan was also among them.

Outside the main hall, samurai armed with swords and guns and wearing armor guarded the inner and outer three floors.

The hall was silent.

At this time, the Northern Zhou had just destroyed the Northern Qi Dynasty, and the country was in ruins, and Emperor Wu of Zhou was sitting on the dragon chair with great satisfaction, and he was now going to announce a decision to these people that shocked them.

He wanted him to be the Son of Heaven. No one dared to dispute his decision.

Because they should all know that he is a fierce emperor who has been through the battlefield many times and will not even blink an eye when killing a person.

Although he summoned them in the name of counsel with them, in reality he was only making them bow down to their commands.

Emperor Wu looked at the crowd and loudly announced his decision: "I have been ordered to raise the people. Now I decree that Buddhism should be abolished!"

There was a commotion in the main hall, and the monks who were invited all looked at each other and panicked.

Emperor Wu noticed the reaction of everyone, he just smiled slightly, and continued: "Buddhism has been circulating in the world for a long time, but the teachings it says are all wrong. Confucianism in the Six Classics preaches the principle of governing the world, and the courtesy, loyalty, and filial piety it advocates are beneficial to the world, so we practice Confucianism. The so-called true Buddha in Buddhism is nothing, and no one can see it. I think believers only need to express their reverence to the void, and they don't have to go through Buddhist scriptures and statues. There are many figures of stupas recorded in the Buddhist scriptures, and many monasteries have to be built to propagate the Dharma, and the believers have exhausted their money, so what good is this for the people? Therefore, Buddhism should not be kept, and Buddhist articles such as sutra statues should be destroyed. The kindness of parents is great, and monks disrespecting their parents is the greatest rebellion, and the national law does not tolerate it. Therefore, the monks should return home and fulfill their filial piety. What do I think, I would like to ask you to share your high views. ”

The five hundred monks were silent at this time, and they all knew that the consequences of resisting the emperor's decision would be unimaginable.

The monks were so frightened at this time that their faces were as pale as earth, and their legs trembled.

The emperor was very satisfied when he saw this scene.

At this moment, a man walked out from among the monks and said in a loud voice, "Your Majesty, this matter must not be allowed!"

Everyone's eyes are focused on this monk, he is the famous monk Huiyuan of the Northern Dynasty and the Sui Dynasty.

All the monks sweated for Huiyuan.

Emperor Wu of Zhou also looked unhappy when he heard that someone was opposing his decision.
