Chapter 549: The Tao and the Vulgar Are Lurking
Therefore, Emperor Wen Xuan was very happy: "Now divide the country's property into three parts, one for the use of the state, and the other for the use of Buddhism." ”
So Emperor Wenxuan sent a decree to transport money, silk, bedding and other items to the mountain, and built a warehouse in the mountain to store these things for the daily use of the temple.
The monk believed that the purpose of Buddhism was to cultivate the mind, and that financial and worldly things hindered salvation, so he sent a letter to Emperor Xuan and asked him to pull these things back.
Emperor Wenxuan was moved by the monk's bearing, and asked him to build a stock of these things elsewhere and send them to the temple when needed.
Later, Emperor Wenxuan issued edicts for Buddhist affairs, and every little thing had to be personally asked.
He also asked the minister to send medicine and food to the monks, and to solve the difficulties in the life of the monks at any time, and Emperor Wen Xuan himself often brought his guards to the monks' monasteries.
Every time Emperor Wen Xuan came, the monk sat quietly in the room and never got up to greet him, and when Emperor Xuan left, he didn't send it.
The disciple of the monk advised him: "When the emperor arrives, you only care about cultivation and do not greet him, is this contrary to common sense?" ”
The monk said: "In the past, Bintou Lu welcomed the king seven steps, so that the king was in charge of the world for seven years. I myself have no good virtues, and I dare not deceive myself, knowing that I will not bring any merit to the emperor. ”
At that time, people praised the monk for being thick and generous, and taking care of Dafa without being formal.
Soon, someone said bad things about the monk to Emperor Wen Xuan, accusing the monk of being arrogant and rude, and disrespecting the emperor.
Emperor Wen Xuan was furious and wanted to harm the monks. Seng Chou had already expected this.
One day, the monk came to the kitchen and said, "Tomorrow there are guests coming, so prepare more of this food." ”
At the fifth watch in the middle of the night, the monk prepared the ox cart and went to the mountain pass alone, standing on the side of the road about 20 miles away from the monastery.
Emperor Wen Xuan's men and horses walked to the place where Seng Chou was standing, felt very strange, and asked Seng Chou why he was here, and Seng Chou said: "I am afraid that my blood is not clean and will defile the Buddhist temple, so I am waiting for you here." ”
Emperor Wen Xuan immediately dismounted and knelt down, and said to the ministers: "How can such a real person with magical powers slander?"
Emperor Wenxuan wanted to bow down and carry the monk to the temple, but the monk resolutely refused to accept it.
Emperor Wen Xuan said: "If a disciple fails his teacher, it is not enough to use the whole world to apologize."
Then, Emperor Wen Xuan asked again: "What is the predecessor of the disciple?"
The monk said, "It's the Rakshasa King, so he still likes to kill people to this day." ”
Monk Chou asked people to bring a basin of water, prayed in the water for a while, and then asked Emperor Wen Xuan to look at his shadow in the water, which was really like a rakshasa.
At the beginning of each year, Emperor Wenxuan has to ask the monk about the good luck of the year.
In the tenth year of Tianbao, the monk Chou said to Emperor Xuan: "This year is unlucky. ”
Emperor Wen Xuan was very unhappy and asked, "Then how to avoid it?"
The monk said, "I will die soon." ”
By October, Emperor Wen Xuan was dead.
In the summer of the following year, the monk also died.
When the monk was dying, the fragrance wafted all over the temple.
The emperor sent King Xiangle to greet him: "The great Zen master is a monk, strong-willed, and cultivates hard, and he will surely be able to move the heavens and become a positive fruit." The Zen master places his heart in silence, and he will be able to make mystical merits. ”
After the death of the monk, most of the high-ranking officials and celebrities went to mourn.
In order to express their reverence for the monks, they gave countless things, gathered more than 1,000 monks, and made offerings at Yunmen Temple, in order to bring him good fortune to the other world.
On the day of the monk's burial, the mountain was full of people, tens of thousands, and countless incense sticks were lit.
At noon, the burning of the monk's corpse began, and the people were overwhelmed with grief, and the cries resounded through the valley.
Immediately, there were hundreds of white birds, wandering and flying on the smoke and dust, and their sorrowful chirping, which was touching and heartfelt.
Emperor Xiaozhao of the Northern Qi Dynasty was built in two years, and the disciple of the monk Chou Tan Xun asked Emperor Xiaozhao to build a tower for the monk. Emperor Xiaozhao issued an edict saying, "The great Zen master of the monk is a great Zen master, with profound moral practice, and is the pillar of the Three Treasures of Buddhism, and his gods are beyond all things." According to the customs of this place, a tower can be built to commemorate the memorial. Later, a thousand monks will be held to show the glorious life of the master. so that it will be passed on to future generations.
After the Northern Zhou destroyed the Northern Qi Dynasty, he gave the abandoned Yunmen Temple to the doctor Liu Wuwen, who asked his relative Xin Jianshou to move his family into the temple.
Soon after, Xin Jianshou's family fell ill and died.
"If you can't become a monk now, this life will be over. Seven-year-old Lingyu sighed.
Once again, his parents' request to become a monk was denied.
Lingyu was born and had a relationship with Buddhism.
Every time he met a monk, Xiao Lingyu immediately stood with his hands down, and then bowed down to give a salute to the monk with the beloved things he was holding in his hand that he was reluctant to give to his friends.
As soon as he heard the sound of slaughter, he felt as if the knife was piercing his body, and the pain was unbearable.
When Lingyu was six years old, he asked his parents to become a monk.
The parents looked at Lingyu with wide eyes of astonishment, they could never have imagined that their six-year-old son would make such an unusual request.
Parents have long pinned their hopes on Lingyu for the revitalization of the family, how could they allow Lingyu to become a monk!
Indeed, Lingyu is too smart.
Articles of more than 1,000 words, Xiao Lingyu can recite them at a glance, "The Book of Filial Piety", "Analects", etc., the first reading is clear.
After Lingyu's request to become a monk was rejected many times, he wanted to find an opportunity to escape from the house.
At the age of fifteen, Lingyu was ready.
But this year, his father fell seriously ill, and Lingyu had to stay and wait.
His father's illness caused his family to ask for a doctor and medicine for him every day, and he watched him day and night, while his father was tortured by the illness to death.
Seeing all this, Lingyu felt that the suffering like this in the world was endless, and there was no joy in life.
The sea of suffering is boundless, and turning back is the shore, and Lingyu's determination to devote himself to Buddhism has become even stronger.
As soon as his father's illness improved slightly, Lingyu said goodbye and went to Yingjue Temple to join Mingbao Zen Master and leave home.
As soon as he entered the Buddhist gate, Lingyu swore to the sky with the scriptures in his hand: "I want to study the Fa sincerely and exhaust the subtle words and righteousness of the three Tibets!"
Lingyu successively learned the Dharma from five Zen masters, including Mingbao and Daoping, and learned classics such as "The Theory of the Earth", "Four Precepts", and "Monk's Precepts".
Emperor Wenxuan of the Northern Qi Dynasty promoted Buddhism, summoned the world's talents to preach the Dharma, and all the eminent monks and masters came to defect.
Lingyu took this opportunity to study the Fa.
He followed Master An, You, and Rong to listen to the "Miscellaneous Mind Theory", and learned the "Theory of Enlightenment" from Master Song and Lin Er.
Lingyu himself specialized in the study of "Huayan", "Nirvana", "Theory of the Earth" and so on.
Every time he studied a scripture, he had to search for multiple versions, explore the similarities and differences between them, and learn from the good.
After this study, Lingyu thoroughly understood the teachings of the Buddhist scriptures.
Then he began to preach the Dharma to the monks.
Lingyu preaches the Dharma, and its meaning is in the chapters and verses of the Buddhist scriptures, but focuses on its main purpose, so that people can understand the root of the Buddha's principles.
Sometimes it took him several days to speak of a single word, and sometimes he would speak several volumes at a time.
In the preaching, Lingyu revealed the subtle meaning of Buddhism, so that the listeners could understand it.
For this reason, there are many people who come to Lingyu, and everyone calls him "Yu Bodhisattva".
Lingyu preaches the Fa and never acts at will.
If there is a seat, it must be solemnly invited, and Lingyu will only ascend to the throne.
Once, in the middle of Lingyu's speech, he suddenly picked up the tin staff and clothes and was about to leave.
The host of the chair was very panicked and stepped forward to give a deep salute.
"Why did the Master suddenly stop speaking, and if the disciple was rude, please make it clear. ”
Lingyu said: "To propagate the Dharma is to eliminate one's own evil deeds, and now the evil deeds of the donor are still there, and I am humiliating to teach the Dharma here." ”
It turned out that the owner planted forty acres of leeks, and after Lingyu saw it, he got up to leave.
The monks' precepts have the requirement of abstaining from eating meat, and leeks are one of the meat foods, so Lingyu said that the master of the chair has evil deeds.
After understanding the reason, the master of the Dharma seat begged Lingyu and said, "Master still keep talking, this evil deed is easy to get rid of, don't worry about it." After saying that, he immediately asked the villagers to hoe the leeks with a plow.
The monks came together to listen to the teachings and often joked with each other during breaks.
But whenever Lingyu was present, everyone was solemn.
The monks in the lower seat often did not dare to go to the clinic because of their seriousness and uprightness.
Lingyu is only focused on the Dharma, and does not care at all about worldly fame and fortune.
Emperor Wenxuan built a monastery and repeatedly issued edicts to summon a person of high moral virtue to be the abbot, and the state provided daily use.
Lingyu was called the most virtuous person by the monks, and the emperor invited him many times.
Lingyu excused himself and said, "This matter is of great significance, and my virtue is not enough. Your Majesty gives this benefit, and the recipient can be glorified for a while, but this is not what I want. If you give me the Tao that benefits sentient beings, I will accept it without hesitation. ”
Later, the queen fell ill and asked the monks to chant sutras to eliminate the illness.
Everyone unanimously elected Lingyu as the Dharma master, and first came to the table to preach the Fa.
At this time, there was a rooster who listened to Lingyu's lecture with everyone.
When Lingyu finished speaking, the rooster chirped loudly and flew to the tree in the southwest, where he died one night later.
Soon, the queen's illness was also cured. Everyone said that this was the induction that Master Lingyu had received from the profundity of his Dao Method.
The palace gave Lingyu 300 robes, and Lingyu distributed them to the monks.
When Emperor Wu of Zhou destroyed the Buddha, Lingyu disguised himself as a layman.
He was dressed in a silk robe and a sash of linen, as if his parents had died.
Lingyu vowed that he would only restore his old clothes when Buddhism was revived.
Lingyu led more than 20 monks to live together, talking about Buddhism at night and doing secular things during the day.
Study the Buddhist scriptures, delve into their profound meanings, and record your experiences at any time.
It was a difficult time and there was no access to food.
Lingyu then wrote a book of divination, and asked people to use this book to calculate hexagrams in exchange for food, and they could get two liters of rice a day, and use this as a limit.
Later, when people heard that this book could predict the future, many people came to ask for it, and the rice they received gradually increased.
After Lingyu found out, he said: "We divinate rice to make a living and cultivate the Fa, and now we are actually aiming to earn rice, which is really a small gain and a big loss." There was a saying that he hurt his tongue by licking honey on the edge of a knife, and it seems that it has been fulfilled today. ”
Lingyu asked for the divination book back and burned it in front of everyone.
The next day, he went to the hexagram himself, and after a while, he got two liters of rice, and then swept away.
Under such difficult conditions, Lingyu still continued to study the Fa.
After the establishment of the Sui Dynasty, Buddhism was revitalized, and Lingyu continued his Dharma propagation.
Emperor Wen of Sui opened the emperor for three years, and Uncle Fan of Xiangzhou Assassin opened a Buddhist chair and invited monks from all over the world to preach the Dharma, and Lingyu became the chief. There were more than 1,000 people listening to the lecture at that time.
At this time, Emperor Wen issued an edict to set up monk officials, and the position was about equivalent to that of the capital.
Uncle Fan slightly recommended Lingyu.
