Chapter 534: Tiantai Patriarch Zhiyi
An Xiaoyu said: "Cao Cao, Sun Quan, you should be punished in the hell, strive for early liberation, and be reincarnated." ”
Cao Cao and Sun Quan said: "Okay, thank you, sir." ”
An Xiaoyu and the others bid farewell to Cao Cao and Sun Quan, killed many devils in the hell along the way, and finally came to the end of the hell.
An Xiaoyu and the others converged with Zhong Kui and Di Listeners, and opened the sixteenth layer of hell with the Hades Order.
The sixteenth level of hell is full of volcanoes, and from time to time flames erupt.
Onicha wields a whip and drives the ghosts of hell to jump into the crater.
The ghost jumped helplessly into the lava of the volcano, howling in pain.
An Xiaoyu said: "These ghosts are quite strong, and they are not dead when they jump into the magma." ”
Ma Mian said: "Grandpa Sun doesn't know, this layer is called Volcanic Hell, in the mortal world, people who damage the public and private interests, give and accept bribes, steal chickens and dogs, rob money, set fires, or monks and Taoist priests who violate the precepts, will be sent to the Volcanic Hell after death." In order for these criminal ghosts to be tortured more, they will not be burned. ”
An Xiaoyu said: "Oh, it turns out that the monk who broke the precepts, the Taoist priest will enter the volcanic hell after death, I don't know what the precepts are?"
Mi'er said: "The monk does not kill in one precept, does not steal in the second precept, does not commit adultery in the third precept, does not lie in the fourth precept, does not speak in two tongues in the fifth precept, does not speak evil in the sixth precept, does not speak in the seventh precept, does not be greedy in the eighth precept, does not resentment in the ninth precept, and does not have evil opinions in the tenth precept." ”
An Xiaoyu said: "What are the precepts of a Taoist priest?"
Mi'er said: "The main precepts of Taoism are the nine precepts of Xiang'er, the five precepts, the ten precepts, the great precepts of the Jade True Palace, the ten precepts of Emperor Fuyou, the great precepts of wisdom, the precepts of wisdom and the six emotions, the precepts of wisdom and life, the precepts of the three caves, the precepts of the three altars, and the worship of a hundred medicines, the saying of a hundred diseases, and so on. ”
An Xiaoyu said: "There are too many rules and precepts for monks, and I don't want to suffer these things in the future." ”
Several people chatted all the way and walked forward, and suddenly saw a small monk with a beautiful face sitting in the magma with his palms folded, while reciting Buddhist scriptures in a low voice.
An Xiaoyu said: "That little monk is very special, he recited Buddha while being tortured." ”
Mi'er said, "Yes, did he use the Dharma to resist the punishment of magma flames?"
Ma Mian said: "No, the magma flames in the volcanic hell are very special, no matter what kind of cultivation the ghost had in his previous life, he is even more fragile than a mortal fetus here, and he can't use spells to protect his body." ”
An Xiaoyu said: "So that's the case, Ma Mian, you go and bring the little monk over, I'll ask what's going on." ”
After a while, Ma Mian came over with the little monk.
An Xiaoyu said: "Monk, what precepts have you committed?" ”
The little monk's face turned red and said, "Donor, I committed a sexual precept." ”
An Xiaoyu sneered: "What a bold monk, he dares to violate the lust ring. ”
The little monk said: "I was forced, I was drugged, and when I woke up, I committed suicide in grief and anger." ”
An Xiaoyu said: "So that's the case, why are you still reciting Buddhist scriptures in the magma flames?"
The little monk said: "I have been determined to become a generation of monks since I was a child, and even if I become a ghost, I will not give up my ideals." ”
An Xiaoyu smiled: "You are quite idealistic." ”
The little monk said proudly: "I know the stories of many eminent monks. ”
An Xiaoyu said curiously: "Hehe, then you can talk about it." ”
Although the little monk is a little wooden, he is eloquent and fascinating when he tells the story of the Buddhist scriptures.
The first thing the little monk told was the story of Zhiyi.
Zhiyi, commonly known as Chen, was originally from Yingchuan, Henan, and moved to Huarong in Jingzhou during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Zhiyi's father was a prominent minister of the Liang Dynasty.
Legend has it that when Zhiyi's mother was pregnant, she often saw colorful auspicious clouds in her dreams, lingering in her arms like floating white clouds. Every time she tried to dispel the auspicious clouds, she heard a man of God in heaven say to her, "This is the cause of a previous life, a sign that great fortune is coming, and it cannot be driven away." ”
Later, Ji-yi's mother dreamed of swallowing a white rat in her stomach. The couple was surprised by this and asked someone to go to divination, and the diviner said that this was a sign that the white dragon was in the belly, so please don't panic. Only then did the two of them relax their hearts.
On the night of Zhiyi's birth, the house was as bright as daylight. The whole family celebrates the birth of Zhiyi.
The family wanted to kill pigs and sheep and stew meat for the guests to celebrate. But as soon as the meat came out of the pot, the fire was extinguished, and after ordering it several times, it was all like that.
People were surprised. At this moment, two strange-looking monks pushed the door in and said to Zhiyi's father, "Congratulations, your family has produced a high monk, Amiru Buddha!"
After saying that, the two men were gone.
After that, Zhiyi's parents discovered that the wise man had two eyes. In ancient mythology, there was a legend of Shun Chongren, which was considered to be the image of a saint. Zhiyan's parents love Zhiyi like a pearl in the palm of their hands.
When Zhiyi began to read, he liked to read Buddhist scriptures, and his daily words and deeds should always follow the requirements of Buddhist scriptures. And he meditates every night. I often think about becoming a monk and learning the Tao.
Emperor Xiao Yi of Liang Yuan was killed, Zhiyi's father lost his official position and resigned, and his family declined. The wise man thus felt the impermanence of life, and his desire to become a monk became even more determined.
Soon after, Zhiyi's parents passed away one after another. After the funeral of his parents, Zhiyi went to Xiangzhou Guoyuan Temple to become a monk. Zhiyi was 18 years old that year.
Leaving the Fazhu, Zhiyi learned the Fa from Hui Kuang again. Hui Kuang was a famous monk at the time, proficient in Vinaya and various Mahayana Buddhist scriptures. At the age of 20, Zhiyi received full ordination with Hui Kuang. Soon after, he went to Daxian Mountain in Hengzhou, Hunan Province, and devoted himself to studying the Lotus Sutra.
After several years of study, Zhiyi has become proficient in several important Buddhist scriptures. However, Zhiyi thinks that the origin of Buddhism is to make people understand the nature of the mind, but now that they are discussing some words and meanings every day, and their minds are often trapped by this thing, how can they obtain the ultimate path of the Dharma? It seems that it is not enough to just read the scriptures, but also to learn the method of cultivation.
At this time, Hui Si, who was deeply involved in meditation and kung fu, was preaching the Dharma at Daesousan Mountain in Gwangju. When Zhiyi heard the news, he rushed to Dasu Mountain to learn the Fa from Hui Si.
During the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, due to the division of the country, different social atmospheres and cultures of the North and the South were formed. Buddhism in the north and south also has its own characteristics. Buddhism in the south inherited the tradition of metaphysics since the Eastern Jin Dynasty and emphasized righteousness, while Buddhism in the north paid more attention to meditation due to the influence of the rough and unwritten literature of the northern peoples at that time.
Hui Si once studied the Dharma from Zen Master Hui Wen and became a great master who attaches equal importance to meditation and righteousness. Later, Hui Si led his followers south to temporarily stay at Daesu Mountain in Gwangju to preach in order to integrate Buddhism between the north and the south.
As soon as Zhiyi came, Hui Si became excited: "Aren't you the one who used to listen to the Lotus Sutra with me on Vulture Mountain? ”
Zhiyi was very moved in his heart at this time: "The disciple did listen to the Buddha's teachings in the Vulture Mountain with the Master. Is it any wonder that when I saw the Master today, the disciples felt relaxed and refreshed?"
Since then, Zhiyi has devoted himself to cultivation under the guidance of Hui Si.
A few years later, Zhiyi's kung fu has grown greatly. When he was meditating, he only felt that his heart was calm and peaceful, and he was at ease, and he had entered a wonderful realm. During this period, Hui Si often asked him to teach the Fa on his behalf.
Zhiyi's lectures are endless, discerning and analyzing Buddhism, and expounding the subtleties, which is admired by the monks.
One day, Hui Si called Zhiyi and said to him, "I want to go to Hengyue to practice in seclusion. Now that you've completed your studies, you're ready to preach the Dharma. But only if the concentration is insufficient, we have to work hard. You have a relationship with Chen Guo, you can go to Jinling first, and you will definitely be able to achieve the great cause of propagating the Dharma. ”
In the first year of Emperor Chen's Guangda, Zhiyi came to Chen's capital Jinling, when he was thirty years old.
After Zhiyi arrived in Jinling, he immediately began to give lectures. Zhiyi spread the meditation method he had learned from Hui Si to the masses, and it was generally welcomed by the cultivators.
The great monks and masters of Jinling abandoned what they had learned before and led their disciples to listen to Zhiyi's teachings.
For a time, Zen was flourishing. The main reason for this is that the Jiangnan monks talk about doctrine and do not emphasize practice, which hinders the development of Buddhism.
Zhiyi's meditation method brought something new to Buddhism in Jiangnan.
There are also stubborn and conservative monks, some of whom are dismissive of the practice of meditation, while others are annoyed that their position is at stake.
One day, Zhiyi was giving a lecture on the Fa, when someone suddenly came to report that Huirong was visiting. Huirong is a famous monk in Jinling City, proficient in Buddhism, good at debate, and nicknamed "Yihu".
When everyone heard that the "righteous tiger" was visiting, and knew that he was here to debate, they were all worried about Zhiyi.
After Hui Rong came in, he sat down with Zhi Yi and asked, "I heard that the mage is superb, and even the ministers of the court are respectful to you, like a god, I want to see it now." ”
Zhiyi just smiled indifferently at him, and said flatly: "I'm just a shallow learner, and I don't have any talent." It's just to promote the Dharma and make a modest contribution to all sentient beings. ”
Hui Rong shook the fan in his hand proudly, and was about to ask a question, but the fan was thrown out by mistake, and Hui Rong leaned over to pick it up, causing everyone to laugh loudly: "How did the righteous tiger in the past become Fulu today? ”
Huirong picked up the fan, looked ashamed, and walked away.
After some time, Zhiyi wanted to leave the capital and practice in a pure place. He said to his disciples, "The capital is chaotic, and it is not good for practice. In the first year, 40 people studied meditation and 20 people received the Dharma, in the second year there were 100 people who received the Dharma, and in the third year there were 200 people, but only 10 people received the Dharma. Recently, there are more people studying the Fa, but even fewer people have attained the Tao. It seemed that if this continued, it would not be good for the propagation of the Dharma, so he decided to leave the capital and find a quiet place to propagate the Dharma and practice. ”
Zhiyi once had a dream. In his dream, he saw rocky cliffs, white clouds, red sun hanging on one side, boundless sea, and rolling waves.
On the mountain, a monk beckoned to him. Zhiyi described the place he saw in his dream to his disciples, and the disciples said that it was Tiantai Mountain in the Huiji Mountain, where the sages once lived.
After thinking of this, Zhiyi decided to lead his disciples to Tiantai Mountain. After the news of this incident came out, everyone in Jinling came to save them, and even the emperor also passed them on. But Zhiyi was determined and did not stay.
Zhiyi didn't arrive at Tiantai Mountain. The monk Dingguang lived there.
