Chapter Eighty-Nine: The Bangas
During the Zhangzhung period, there were many Bon followers, many teachings, and sect branches were like stars in the sky, and there were countless sects. One of them, the Banga Bon sect, is a very small branch of less than 10 followers, which is no longer known in modern times, and only traces of its existence can be glimpsed from the murals of the ruins of the Guge Dynasty.
Banga Bon is different from other branches of Bon in that its whereabouts are secretive, and it is said that no one has ever seen them except for the king, but their shadows are everywhere in the daily lives of the people. The second is their multiplicity of identities, they are not only the inheritors of the ancient Zhangxiong Buddhism, but also know how to build beams and buildings, and they are good at combining mechanical obscenity with the teachings of Buddhism, inventing and manufacturing breathtaking karkilographic devices, and these instruments have penetrated into the daily life of people at that time, and have had a very profound impact on them, and the soul transfer ladder is one of them. In summary, Banga was gradually forgotten by the Bon kings, and the Zhangzhung people seemed to have tacitly accepted Banga as a separate religion from Bon.
After the collapse of Zhangzhung, the Bangas, like other Bons, wandered from one small country to another, but their whereabouts were much more secretive. Due to their relatively neutral political stance and the fact that Buddhism was respected in various countries at the time, these Buddhists were not only affected by the destruction of the state by Zhangzhung, but also enjoyed preferential treatment from the kings of various countries.
In the 10th century, Dezugon led more than 100 people who fled from the Tibetan Dynasty to establish the Guge Dynasty and became the first king in the history of Guge. At the beginning of the founding of the country, the population was withered and everything was in ruins, and "how to survive" was the top problem facing the young king at the moment. This man, in order to survive, he can not care about anything, what status is not worth mentioning in the face of the survival plan, the king eats and lives with his few subjects, and there is no clear boundary between the residence and the residence of the prince and noble. However, as the country's strength grew and the population became more and more numerous, the question of "how to survive" escalated to the question of "how to rule."
Just like Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, a famous American social psychologist and the founder of the third generation of psychology, when people's lowest life safety needs are satisfied, they will pursue higher-level social and self-realization needs. In the feudal period of the king's rule, the most direct expression of "self-realization" is "status", the king can no longer eat and live with the common people, and the princes and nobles cannot bear that they cannot enjoy more privileges and preferential treatment than the ordinary people, in order to show their noble identity and status, the most direct appeal is to build a palace.
The feudal superstition of the ancients was very serious, whether it was the king of the Western Regions in the West or the emperor of the ancient East, they all believed that their rights came from "heaven" and "the divine right of the monarch". Therefore, in the design of the palace, I also hope to be as close to the "sky" as possible, and the "height" shows the "weight". At this time, it happened that one of the disciples of Banga had come here to preach and heard about it in a Dharma teaching with King Guge. First, the believer intended to show his non-preaching craft so that he could gain a firm foothold in the kingdom. Second, the king of Guge had already heard of Banga's mechanical ingenuity, and it was not impossible for the palace to be entrusted to him to design. The two men hit it off, and within a day, the Banga had drawn a sketch of the design.
Guge is located in the hinterland of Ali Tulin, according to the building rules of local materials, it should be built along the mountain based on the earth mountain and earth wall. According to the status level, the palace is also like the "three, six, nine, etc." of people is divided into three layers, the upper layer is closest to the "sky", which is the palace, where the king and the princes and nobles live, the king is the highest, and the nobles are extended in order according to the rank; In the middle is the temple, which is a place for the king and Buddhists to practice Buddhism, and also provides accommodation for some eminent monks; The lower floor is the commoners and slave quarters, the commoners are on top and the slaves are below, and there are basically no windows in the drawing design, like a dark basement, symbolizing the dark life of the slaves.
The design of the entire palace basically follows the principle of "distribution according to power status", the greater the power, the higher the status, the higher the floor of the residence. In order to prevent the commoners and slaves from the lower levels from intruding into the nobles' territory, the Banga ingeniously concealed the design of the staircase on the outside of the palace, and designed the windows on each floor to be particularly clever, allowing sunlight to shine and leaving no room for climbing, which is impossible to climb without bare hands unless you are a gecko.
So how did the king and the nobles get home? This brings us to the most miraculous stroke in the Guge Palace-the Soul Shifting Ladder. This Banga uses the teachings of the Dharma as the "password" for the secret door, and the person who lives on which floor he lives can only know the "password" of that floor and the floor below. For example, nobles can learn the "passwords" for their own and Buddhist floors, while the king, who is in the highest position, can learn the "passwords" for all floors. Such a hierarchical palace design like a pyramid greatly satisfied King Guge, and it was quickly applied to the construction of various palaces in Guge.
As for what exactly this "password" is, what are the rules, and how to crack it? We have no way of knowing now, but we can only deduce from the text behind the hand-drawn sketches of Grandpa 1.75 that this kind of mechanism is a complex device with false punishment, and once the correct "password" is not entered three times in a row, a set of extremely dangerous wrong procedures will be activated, which may be a major earthquake or some other disaster. The clever thing is that this program only penalizes people who enter the wrong password, and has no effect on other people and buildings. Just like when he was 1.75 meters, he entered a completely independent and closed space, encountered a deadly earthquake, and almost lost his life, but in the end, he found that there was nothing wrong with this palace.
So we speculate that the accident of Miao Miao and the others back then may not have been caused by 1.75 meters, or maybe they themselves strayed into the soul transfer ladder and encountered something more terrifying, and their life and death are still uncertain. Of course, this is only our speculation, and no one can say clearly what the facts were back then, except for those parties.
However, since this is the beginning, we might as well boldly speculate on the reason for the disappearance of the 100,000 people of the Guge Dynasty, whether it is right or wrong, it is all up to personal opinions. After experiencing a series of historical changes from the collapse of the Tibetan Dynasty to the establishment of the Guge Dynasty, this Banga disciple is a brilliant person, and he knows that the change of dynasty and the change of flag is only 30 years in Hedong and 30 years in Hexi, which is impermanent. Now that he has such a position in Guge, he is prepared for danger in times of peace, once one day, Guge is annexed by other countries, and there are no eggs under the nest? He must have left a way out for himself!
Therefore, he once again used the principle of space to design a "road to heaven", which was repaired and maintained by successive kings of Guge. Until the middle of the seventeenth century, the Ladakhi army attacked the royal palace, Guge was defeated, history has become a foregone conclusion, the king of Guge was disheartened and did not forget the 100,000 lives in the city, and finally opened the "road to heaven" that had been prepared for six or seven hundred years, leaving the world with the eternal mystery of Guge's overnight demise.
