CHAPTER XXXVII
"What are you thinking, cousin?"
In the living room of the Hall family.
The curtains were halfway open, the sunlight was mild but not scorching, the red carpet was the latest in the day, fruit bowls and desserts were placed on the table next to the sofa, and cups and teapots filled with freshly brewed bitter coffee.
Margaret waved her hand, trying to get her cousin's attention.
Baddeley Hall looked up blankly, and when he saw his cousin's concerned eyes, he pouted and shook his head, "No, it's nothing Margaret." It's just that don't you think the recent days have been boring? β
Margaret wanted to roll her eyes, but she silently scratched her arm, "Of course, Baddeley, I mean, do you know how many days you haven't been out?" Since coming back with Mr. Bentley that day, this is simply not normal! β
"Oh yes yes, you're right." Baddeley covered his forehead and lay on his back on the back of the couch, "I think I'm sick." β
"You mean, haven't you been looking for those fancy ladies for a long time? If that's what you mean, then all I can say is that is, that's it, then you're really boring - I mean, cousin, didn't you say that you want to pursue my dear friend Caroline with all your heart? β
Baddeley Hall was stunned for a moment when he heard the name, "What did you say?" When did I say that! β
His eyes widened, as if he had been greatly offended.
Margaret paused, and said, "Ohβyou didn't say that, here's what I said. Seeing Baddeley's relieved appearance, she pouted disdainfully in her heart, what kind of innocence is pretending at this time, her cousin's lace news over the years is enough to keep the newspaper busy for a year!
"But did you really give up like that? Because of Caroline, gave up the whole forest? Oh come on, Baddeley, no kidding! β
"You know what!" Baddeley was a little annoyed, he closed his eyes, "Mr. Bingley talked about Caroline's marriage that day, Darcy guy...... What a ......."
"Ha, that's why you're like this!" Margaret narrowed her eyes keenly, she blew him up, but she didn't expect to really blow up the truth of the matter for her.
To be honest, Caroline did seem to be a little more compatible with Mr. Darcy, and Margaret's sanity told her that who wouldn't like a gentleman like Mr. Darcy? Even she herself thought that such a man was so charming, and of course Blair could not hear this.
But emotionally speaking, Margaret will still be biased towards her cousin, even if he used to be so flowery, or uninhibited, but she always felt that Baddeley was a serious and responsible man, and selfishly, Caroline became her sister-in-law, what a perfect thing.
Baddeley sat up jerkily, "Am I supposed to do something?" β
Margaret raised an eyebrow and pointed at herself, "You ask me?" β
"Of course." He raised his chin, "Is there anyone else in the room?" β
"Of course you've got to do something, cousinβyou can't be compared to Mr. Darcy, can you? Let's fight for it. Margaret added, "But tell me first, do you really love Caroline?" β
Seeing that Margaret was serious, Badley Hall himself was stunned, and pursed his mouth noncommittally, "Margaret, she is very suitable for Mrs. Hall's name, isn't she?" β
###
"Concert?" Caroline looked at the envelope in her hand stunned, "Can I not go?" β
The servant who delivered the letter looked embarrassed, "Miss Bingley, this is ...... I don't know, but I beg you, go ahead! His face was unspeakable, and Caroline was stunned, wouldn't something irreparable happen if he didn't go?
"I see, you can go back first."
Charles Diberdeen in concert.
For Caroline, the attraction is still quite big, she remembers going to the opera and concerts with Charles and Luisa when she was a child, which are all things that Luisa likes, and her taste has always been deeply in line with the most popular things at the moment, but later Luisa got married, and Caroline and Charles are not very interested in it, so they rarely go.
She was quite tempted to send such an invitation to Caroline, but it would have been better if the inviter had been Margaret.
Caroline's distressed look fell into Charles's eyes, and he walked over and asked, "Who invited you?" Darcy? β
"No, it's Baron Hall." She handed the letter in her hand to Charles, "Isn't it bad not to go?" β
Charles raised his head after reading the letter and said seriously, "Caroline, although Baddeley and I are good business partners, as your brother, I still think Darcy is a better candidate." Although sometimes his reaction is indeed slow and outrageously slow - am I not qualified to say this? Charles shrugged and saw Caroline's reddened cheeks, "Admit it, Caroline, he's a good candidate, isn't he?" β
"Who are you talking about?" She pretended not to understand, and quickly turned around, but the figure of the person who protected her in her arms appeared in her mind, "Then it's better for me to go, we can't afford to offend a baron, right?" β
Charles wanted to say something more, but finally swallowed it in his stomach.
"It's good that you decide, I'm not home tonight."
"Looking for Sarah?"
Speaking of Sarah, Caroline said helplessly, she had inexplicably received frequent overtures from the young lady at home in the past two days, and Caroline was so frightened that she hurriedly asked Margaret to ask her what was wrong.
Margaret burst out laughing when she heard this, "Why is she still like this...... Caroline, Sara is a little weird, but she doesn't mean bad. Who doesn't have a weird friend yet? β
"But she only thinks she's crushed!" Caroline raised her voice quietly, "My dear Margaret, I'm not ready to take on a woman!" β
"Didn't I say, shouldn't you be worried about who the two men should choose? Do you have so much to do with Sara and your brother? β
"Oh, okay, okay, you're right." Caroline was helpless, "But I don't agree with the 'two' you said, you know, I don't have much interest in these in the first place." β
"But you can't help but get married!" Margaret hit the nail on the head, and after she became friends with Caroline, she gradually began to talk about everything, she knew that the person in front of her could bear her unladylike, and she was used to it.
Caroline "......" for a moment, pondering for a moment, before saying, "Perhaps." β
"Oh my God! You're crazyβ"
"Stop, stop, what's the topic going on with me? Isn't that talking about Sarah? Caroline paused for a moment, "Don't worry, Margaret, I didn't say I wouldn't marry, even if I wanted to, Charles wouldn't agree, don't you worry?" I'm just right now, at the moment, don't want to think about those. β
"Then you accept their pursuit!" Margaret lifted her chin, "Who can make these gentlemen lose face?" It's just you, my dear miss. β
"Sara invited me to their house." Charles shrugged, "You know, I don't want to go. β
Caroline squinted at him out of the corner of her eye, "Oh, really? My dear brother? "To tell a lie is to get a nose long.
Charles turned his head uncomfortably, "It's time for me to take my heart, Caroline." β
Hearing this, Caroline was stunned, she never expected to hear such words from Charles's mouth.
"Charles, you ...... It doesn't have to be this way. I mean, you're doing a good job right now, and I don't think you need to pay attention to anything like that. β
Charles likes freedom, he doesn't like to be inhibited, he loves carefree days, and he does follow hedonism. Caroline didn't understand what made him change such a mind, but apparently, she didn't fit in with such Charles.
"I just wish my sister could take a break. After all, I am the master of this family, and I have my own responsibilities, for my sister, for my sister, and for my family. Charles's turquoise eyes were full of tenderness, his handsome face was soft in the sun, and Caroline opened her mouth, but she couldn't say anything, only slowly reddened her eyes.
Charles stood up, hugged Caroline, and gave her a kiss on the forehead that she hadn't seen since she was ten, "Go play, dear." Be happy, my sister deserves the best. β
ββ¦β¦ Thank you, Charles. β
###
"I didn't expect you to come." With surprise and a smile in his eyes, Baddeley Hall looked at the young lady who stepped out of the carriage, "My dear Caroline. β
"Don't call it so familiar, Baron." Caroline raised her chin, "I haven't settled the account you threatened me in the letter!" I already knew I was coming, so what are you pretending to be so presentable? β
Baddeley was stunned and laughed, "That's not a threat, it's a request." But I know you're different, Caroline, would you like to spend a wonderful night with me? β
Caroline glanced at his bent arm lightly and pulled the corners of her mouth dryly, "I do." Then he walked past the people and walked straight to the entrance.
Baddeley, who was left in place, smiled playfully, and didn't mind her cold expression, and caught up with Caroline in three or two steps, walking beside her.
"Thebellsofaberdovey, I heard there will be this today."
Albertowy's bell was Caroline's favorite song as a child, and Charles tried to sing it to her, of course, at a very young age, she didn't expect Baddeley to know about it and mention it.
"How do you know?" Caroline was a little curious.
The man in the gorgeous clothes made an exaggerated bent pose, "My dear Caroline, I will bring you these if you want, as long as I can." Don't forget, I'm your most faithful knight. β
"You're a baron, not a knight, sir."
ββ¦β¦β
"And." Caroline walked over him slowly, "I just loved the funny way Charles looked when I sang this song when I was a kid. β
ββ¦β¦β
She stood behind the curtain at the entrance and looked up at Baddeley Hale and smiled, "Thank you though, I love the gift." β
"It's good if you're happy."
