Bodhidharma left the Facing Wall Cave, walked down Wulu Peak, returned to Shaolin Temple, and took care of daily Buddhist activities, while Shenguang followed the master from the cave back to the temple.
It was a cold winter, Bodhidharma sat in meditation in the Dharma Pavilion in the backyard, and the divine light stood outside the pavilion, waiting together.

At this time, the heavy snow flooded Shenguang's knees, and his body seemed to be covered with a thick woolly snow blanket, but Shenguang still stood still with his hands folded, standing still and reverently in the snow nest.
The next morning, Bodhidharma was decided, and he walked to the door to see that the divine light was standing in the snow.
Patriarch Bodhidharma said, "What are you doing kneeling here when it snows so heavily?"
Master Shenguang said, 'I want life and death, I couldn't talk about life and death before, but now I ask the patriarch to teach me life and death.' ”
Bodhidharma said, "You want me to teach you the Fa, unless it snows red." ”
Divine light understood, he realized that the holy monk here instructed him to enlighten the secret, without hesitation, he took out the ring knife he carried with him, and slashed it at his left arm, only to hear a "click", one arm fell to the ground, blood splashed, staining the snow on the ground and the clothes of divine light.
Who knew that the sound of this pious knife pierced through the clouds and fog, flew to the western sky, moved the Buddha to come, took off his robe casually, and threw it to the east soil.
Suddenly, the whole Shaolin, red light shrouded, colorful glow was shining, goose feather-like snow flakes were reflected red by blood, and the powder came.
Shenguang put down the ring knife in his hand, bent down and picked up his bloodied left arm, and circled around the Dharma Pavilion, still standing in the red snow, and the snow around the pavilion was also dyed red.
Bodhidharma saw this situation clearly. He felt that Shenguang had been standing behind him for a long time in order to seek advice from him, and now he had broken his arm, and his original pride and complacency had been overcome, and he believed in Zen Buddhism with a pious attitude. Bodhidharma passed on the mantle and magic weapon to the divine light, and took the legal name: "Hui Ke".
After Hui Ke broke his arm, he showed a high degree of fortitude, he endured severe pain, knelt on his knees in the snow nest, and respectfully accepted the "Fa" with his only right hand. Bow down and thank you.
Since then, Hui Ke has succeeded Bodhidharma and become the second generation of Zen Buddhism, called the "Second Ancestor", and became the new abbot of Shaolin Temple.
Zhu Ganglie stretched out his thumb and said, "Abbot Huike, my old Zhu rarely admires people, you are one, you actually cut off your arm in order to learn new Buddhism." ”
Hui Ke said: "Heart."
There is a Buddha, and the body is nothing but a stinky skin. ”

Hui Ke said: "After the Bodhidharma Patriarch came to the Shaolin Temple, he faced the wall in the stone cave for nine years, and finally achieved the positive result, and now he has left the Shaolin Temple, some say that he returned to Tianzhu, and some say that he has soared, so many years, I no longer have heard from the master." ”
Jin Chan said: "Senior brother, I want to visit the place where Master Bodhidharma faces the wall. ”
Hui Ke said: "Okay, senior sister, donors, come with me." ”
Everyone walked towards Wulu Peak, in the upper part of the middle peak of Wulu Peak, not far from the peak, there is a natural stone cave, this stone cave is only three meters high and wide, and the length is about two zhang.
The square door of the cave is just open to the sun, warm in winter and cool in summer, and the air is refreshing.
There is a small compact lawn in front of the cave, surrounded by thick shade and no sky.
It's true: "There is no midsummer here, and the empty mountains listen to the birdsong." ”
After Bodhidharma came to Shaolin Temple, he used this natural stone cave as a place for him to practice meditation.

The cave is as quiet as no one, all the sounds are silent, after entering the meditation, even the birds do not know that there are people here, and they actually build a nest on the shoulders of the Bodhidharma Patriarch, and truly achieve the meditation. After "settling down", he stood up, moved his limbs, exercised his body, and continued to sit in meditation when he had recovered from fatigue. In this way, the settlement is settled, the settlement is opened, day after day, year after year. It was nine years of facing the wall. ”
Sha Tianqi asked Jin Chan in a low voice, "Master, what do you mean to enter the meditation?"
Jin Chan said: "Meditation refers to sitting in meditation to a certain extent, with a high degree of concentration of thoughts, eliminating all evil thoughts, evil thoughts, and miscellaneous thoughts, and everything in the outside world does not interfere with him, which is a description of the high attainments of high monks in meditation." ”
An Xiaoyu said: "Master, is it similar to the unity of heaven and man as our immortal cultivators." ”
Jin Chan said: "It's more difficult than the unity of heaven and man, because Bodhidharma is still a martial artist when he faces the wall, and the unity of heaven and one is already at the level of an immortal cultivator, so it is easier to eliminate external interference." ”
As they spoke, they had already entered the cave, which was very simple, with a large stone on the ground and stone walls on three sides.
Ao Qingqing suddenly said in surprise: "Come and see, there is a phantom on this stone wall. ”
Everyone walked closer to take a look, and sure enough, on the stone facing Bodhidharma Zazen, there was an image of Bodhidharma facing the wall, and the folds of the clothes were faintly visible, like a pale ink portrait.
Ao Qingqing stepped forward curiously and gently touched the stone with his hand

Jin Chan said: "Bodhidharma is really a Buddhist monk, facing the wall for nine years, and he can already release his essence and project it into the wall." ”
Ao Lie said: "I really want to visit Patriarch Bodhidharma." ”
Hui Ke said: "Amitabha, in the first few years, I heard the legend that Patriarch Bodhidharma only returned to the west, but I don't know if it's true or not. ”
Ao Lie said: "Abbot Huike, I would like to hear about it." ”
Then Hui Ke told everyone a legend of returning to the west.
After the patriarch of Bodhidharma passed the mantle and bowl to Hui Ke, he left Shaolin and went to Luoyang Yumen, where he lived in the Thousand Holy Temple, and died in the third year of Emperor Xiaojing of the Eastern Wei Dynasty. After Bodhidharma's death, his body was buried in a coffin according to Buddhist etiquette, and in December he was ceremoniously buried in Bear's Ears Mountain, and a tomb tower was built for him in Dinglin Temple in Shaanxi County, Henan Province, as a memorial.

After the two met, Song Yun hurriedly stopped and asked, "Master Bodhidharma, where are you going?"
Patriarch Bodhidharma replied, "I will go to the western heavens."
Then he said, "When you return to Beijing, don't say that you have seen me, otherwise there will be calamity." ”
The two of them went their separate ways.
Usually Bodhidharma does not have a high monk and is cheerful, so Song Yun thought that Bodhidharma was joking, and he didn't mind at all.
After returning to the capital, when Song Yun returned to the emperor, he mentioned by the way that he met the ancestor of Bodhidharma and returned to the West Heaven through the Green Mountains.
Before the words fell, Emperor Xiaojing of the Eastern Wei Dynasty became angry and angrily reprimanded Song Yun: "As everyone knows, Bodhidharma died in Yumen, buried in Bear's Ear Mountain, and built a tower in Dinglin Temple.
After saying that, he ordered the guards next to him to twist Song Yun out of the hall, and tied up the flowers and threw them into the southern prison.
A few days later, one day, Emperor Xiaojing sat in the court to try the case of Song Yun bullying the king.
After passing Song Yun to the palace, Emperor Xiaojing asked: "What happened to you when you met Bodhidharma in Green Ridge, you have to tell the truth."
Song Yun hurriedly knelt down and kowtowed, and said: "The emperor is honorable: Weichen saw Bodhidharma in the Green Ridge, and the Bodhidharma patriarch was barefoot, with a tin staff in one hand and a shoe in the other. The monk's robe fluttered in the wind, fluttering westward. He said that he would return to the western heavens and not let me speak silently, for if he spoke, disaster would be retributed. Chenjue is a joke, and by the way, he plays the lord. Now to be honest, everything is true. Don't dare to bully the emperor, and hope for right and wrong. ”
After Emperor Xiaojing heard this, he was half-convinced, it was difficult to argue between truth and falsehood, and he was invincible.

There was also a lot of discussion, and some said: "Bodhidharma is alive, everyone knows, how can a dead person return to the soul? Song Yun committed the crime of defrauding the king, and should be dealt with according to law." Some said: "Dharma Moses returned to Song Yunjian, how dare he deceive the sky again in prison, since it is difficult to argue whether it is true or false, it can be verified by opening the coffin." ”
So Emperor Xiaojing adopted the latter suggestion, dug up the tomb of Bodhidharma one by one, pried open the lid of the coffin, and sure enough, there was no body in the coffin, only a shoe remained. Song Yun suffered an injustice and rehabilitated Zhaoxue.
Now in the stele corridor of Shaolin Temple, there is also a piece of "Bodhidharma only walks in the west to return to the round tablet", which is engraved with four sentences: Bodhidharma enters the balance year and asks, and the tower temple in Bears Ears Mountain is complete. It's not Song Yun Lingling, who knows that he only goes to the west sky.
After listening to Hui Ke's words, everyone sighed, said goodbye to Hui Ke, and left the mountain.
Along the way, Jin Chan saw An Xiaoyu without saying a word, and asked, "Wukong, why don't you speak?"
An Xiaoyu said: "Master, I'm wondering why Patriarch Bodhidharma only left one shoe in Dongtu and wore one?"
Zhu Ganglie said: "When Patriarch Bodhidharma left, he was in a hurry and lost a shoe. ”
An Xiaoyu said: "Go aside, nerd." ”
Jin Chan said with a smile: "This is the doctrine of Zen Buddhism, which points directly to people's hearts, sees nature clearly, and becomes a Buddha when they see nature." ”
