Chapter 13: Hagrid's Invitation
Dudley had already finished reading the Elementary Transfiguration Guide. The more I learned about Transfiguration, the more I felt that it was unfathomable.
Transfiguration is not something that can be achieved simply by chanting a spell and waving a wand. It has a necessary prerequisite, which requires you to have enough mana, and the more complex and massive the Transfiguration, the more mana it will need to be used to transform.
Transfiguration is not like fluorescent flickering or floating, both of which require spells and wand swings to be cast at frequencies. Like casting this kind of magic, the mana consumed is negligible for a young wizard. Transfiguration is also not like Dudley's original Flying Charm, which is a more advanced form of magic, and its success lies in the user's will.
Transfiguration is the art that can turn inanimate objects into living things and vice versa. This kind of direct change in the material structure cannot be suppressed by a certain person's coffin board.
Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class began, she explained to everyone the complex and esoteric knowledge of other little wizards, and asked them to write notes and gave each of them a match, and began to let them try to turn into a needle, in fact, this is the simplest kind of transformation, the species span of matches and needles is not large, and the volume is not large, and it does not require much magic to support the transformation, but it is too difficult for new students who have just entered the school.
Almost half an hour before the end of the class, Dudley finally completed this transformation, although it had a big flaw, but he was very satisfied with his first transformation. Don't think it's slow, although Dudley knows about Transfiguration, it's one thing to understand, and whether he can successfully cast it is another matter.
"Very good, not bad, I didn't expect that there would be someone among the freshmen who could successfully transform into a new student. Professor McGonagall complimented, "Gryffindor plus five points." β
Hermione was born into a very good family, and had been the class representative in Muggle school before, and she was completely a good student in the eyes of teachers, a good child in the eyes of parents, and a child from other people's families.
It wasn't until Hermione found out that she was a wizard that she was excited and there was a huge gap, and she was very worried that she would fall behind the children who had grown up in wizarding families since childhood. However, she later learns that children from wizarding families do not learn magic from an early age, at least they learn magic from the same starting point.
Hermione memorized all the textbooks she had to study, she wanted to be as good at Hogwarts as she was at a Muggle school, she had her pride, in fact she was right, she succeeded, but she also met an alternative - Dudley Dursley.
Hermione looked at Dudley with some dejection, and she whispered, "How did you do it, I've tried for so long, and it still hasn't changed at all." β
Hermione's face flushed a little, and she looked at Dudley expectantly.
After a while, Dudley didn't react.
Hermione exclaimed, "Crybaby! β
Hermione managed to catch everyone's attention, including Dudley, of course.
"Granger?" Professor McGonagall frowned.
Hermione's face flushed, and she slammed to her feet, "I'm sorry, Professor. β
"Sit down, pay attention to classroom discipline. β
Dudley realized that Hermione seemed to be talking to him about something. He was thinking about Transfiguration.
Dudley looked at Hermione, who was glaring at him with wide eyes.
"Sorry, I didn't hear it at first, you wanted to say ......" Before Dudley could finish speaking, Hermione looked away.
Dudley tried to recall the vague words, and he saw that the match on Hermione's desk was still a match, so he said to himself, "Transfiguration is not all about sending magic and making it change compulsively, I think, well, yes, it should be changed from the material structure, I can try to change the match little by little." β
Hermione stared at the match for a moment, and she waved her wand, the match had changed its appearance, but only slightly.
"Hermione, you're amazing! Dudley applauded.
"Humph!" Hermione looked away, but Dudley saw her face turn to joy at that moment.
By the end of the lesson, only Dudley and Hermione had completed the match-to-needle change. Harry only made the match change a little, and Professor McGonagall showed the match how it turned into a needle, which she could do faster than Dudley and make the finished product more perfect.
On Friday morning, everyone was eating breakfast in the auditorium, but breakfast couldn't stop them from pointing fingers at Dudley and talking about it, because Dudley had become a celebrity in the whole school.
Dudley skipped class and escaped a Defence Against the Dark Arts session. Skipping this lesson was nothing, Quirrell didn't care if Dudley came to class or not, he only cared about Harry. It's just that it's miserable to skip class and be caught by Professor McGonagall, because of this incident, Gryffindor was deducted 100 points.
It is not difficult to deduct points and deduct points, and Dudley believes that even the little lion who has not been deducted points cannot say that he is a Gryffindor. However, if this continues, it is difficult to say whether Dudley will end up eating the Gryffindor Long Table.
Dudley was afraid that Voldemort would read his memory, so he chose to skip class, otherwise the consequences of being read would be completely ruined. Later, he found a book in the library that explained the dementorship, and realized that Voldemort could not perform the dementorship on him with a large purple scarf, and Quirrell had no need to worry about it, he couldn't. Unfortunately, this book only explains the Dementor Mind, but does not teach how to use it.
While Dudley was happily drinking cereal, a flock of owls flew in from above, and Dudley hurried to finish the cereal, otherwise he might have drunk the feathers later. Each owl carries a package to find its owner.
Hedwig also arrived, flapping its wings and landing between the jam and the sugar pot. Dudley was still wondering who would write to Harry, and it would certainly not be Dudley's parents, as Dudley had only written to them yesterday. Without Hedwig, or white and black, the Dursleys would not have been able to send letters to Dudley.
Harry took the note off his leg, and Dudley could only see that it was scrawled.
Harry stared at the note for a long time, his eyes almost closed, and after a while he said, "Dudley, it's Hagrid's letter, he invited us to afternoon tea at three o'clock this afternoon, he wants to know how our first week went." β
"Yes, of course. Dudley was very curious about Hagrid's crust pie.
"Ron, do you want to go along?" Dudley asked.
"Of course. β
Dudley asked Hermione falsely, "Oh, by the way, and Miss Bunny, are you going?"
"Well, since you have invited you so sincerely. Hermione closed the book she was reading, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
Dudley was stunned, he swore he wasn't an invitation at all. If he had known, he would never have spoken.
It was a foregone conclusion, and Harry picked up the quill and wrote on the back of the note, "Okay, we'd love to, Ron and Hermione in addition to Dudley and me, we're looking forward to meeting in the afternoon." β
Harry tied the note back to Hedwig's feet, flicked Hedwig's feathers, and let it fly away to bring a message to Hagrid.
"Ron, what are you looking at?" asked Harry.
Daily Prophet. Do you want to read it?" Ron handed the newspaper to Harry.
"Thank you. β
Ron, who didn't have the newspaper to read, was a little idle, and he asked, "What lessons do we have today?"
"Take two Potions lessons with Professor Snape with the Slytherin students. Dudley replied.
"Oh my God. Ron was a little surprised, and said, "Snape is the head of Slytherin House, and I've heard that he favors his own students, so I'd like to see if that's true." β
"Naive. Dudley said, "If only Professor McGonagall were as biased towards us as he did, so I wouldn't have been deducted points." β
Hermione looked at Dudley with disdain and said, "You don't blame Professor McGonagall for being deducted points, as long as you don't be late and don't skip class, how can she deduct your points!"
"Speaking of points, you don't add as many points as you deduct. Hermione tapped her hand on the table, and she said, "It's hard." β
Dudley wants to die, and after deducting so many points, he doesn't know if he can add it in the end. According to the score of old Dunga at the end, he is only fifty points more if he is counted.
"Dudley, there's a report on this, and I think you'll be interested. Harry said.
"What?" Dudley was still silently calculating the score.
"Look, someone has broken into Gringotts. Gringotts elves confirmed that someone had broken into Vault 713, believing it to be the work of an unknown black mage, but repeatedly stressed that nothing had been stolen. The underground vault had been emptied earlier in the day. As to what exactly is stored in the vault, the fairy spokesperson said that he has no comment, and should not interfere in this matter. β
"How's that? Aren't you interested? Harry asked.
Dudley shook his head.
Harry was a little speechless, and he said, "This vault is what we went with Hagrid to get it. This means that someone broke in after we left and tried to steal the contents. Aren't you interested? Don't you want to know who's stealing, what are you trying to steal?"
"I'm not really interested at all, I know who it is and I know what's inside. Dudley said very honestly.
Harry's interest was instantly extinguished, and he said, "Pretend, you pretend, please start your performance." β
"Alright, alright. I don't know, I'm very interested in this, but ......"
"But what?" asked Harry.
"If we don't go to the classroom, we'll be late. Dudley got up and ran away.
Unfortunately, Dudley only ran a few steps before stopping. Harry and Ron caught up from behind.
"Why don't you run?" said Harry, teasing, putting his arm around Dudley's shoulder.
Hermione said as she passed by Dudley, "Run, naΓ―ve and squeamish, huh!"
The Potions classroom was in a basement, which was colder than the others, like a morgue, with glass jars on the walls and taxidermy inside.
