Chapter 9: The Difficult Photographer
The next morning, Tony receives a call from Jude before heading out.
"Is Kate really planning to quit?"
It was Tony's knee-jerk reaction, but this time he guessed wrong.
"I said earlier that it was a wrong decision for you to bet her out! Let the others know that you've got a week to memorize your lines, and once I find the right location, the shooting starts right away, and if everything goes well, it'll take about two or three days. ”
"So fast?" Tony stopped a little unexpectedly.
"I'm just talking about the time spent on filming, and before that you have to spend at least a week or so rehearsing and running-in."
Jude's answer wasn't unexpected, but Tony was more concerned about the timing of the shoot.
A shot is easy to say, but it's not so easy to actually execute, every detail has to be carefully designed and calculated, how the camera moves, how the photographer stands, and how to complete the framing while minimizing the disruption to the actors' performances...... Although Jude has a complete image memory of "This Man Comes from Earth" in his head, the completely different way of shooting is tantamount to remaking the film, and the difficulty can be imagined.
Of course, these are not the most headaches for Jude, in order to successfully realize the one-shot shooting plan, he needs a trustworthy photographer the most.
"I probably can't help you with that, and no one I know has ever been a photographer." Tony pouted regretfully, opened the apartment door and walked out.
"But I don't think so, I'm sure you can help in this matter!" Jude spoke in a determined tone on the phone.
"What can I do?" Tony asked, somewhat surprised.
"I'm going to meet someone in the car!"
"Damn! How did I forget about it! Tony clutched his forehead in annoyance, and when they first met, he left Jude a small note with his contact information, claiming that Jude could come to him whenever he needed a car.
A small trick to get close to Jude at the beginning, but I didn't expect it to become Jude's reason for asking him to be a driver so soon.
"They live in Pasadena, and I don't want to be late, so you'd better drive over quickly."
Jude was about to hang up the phone after speaking, but Tony stopped him in time.
"Have more questions?"
"First of all, you have to pay for the car, which has nothing to do with whether I am in the film or not, but about my personal livelihood." Tony brought it up very seriously.
Jude was stunned for a moment before he realized that this was the United States, and although his relationship with Tony was already good friends, it was still necessary to distinguish between them when it came to money.
"Of course."
"Second, I want to know who you're going to meet."
Tony's second question was entirely out of personal curiosity, but Jude satisfied him.
"A nice photographer."
Half an hour later, Jude and Tony were standing in the doorway of an apartment and rang the doorbell.
The door was opened by a curly-haired man with a slender face, who first glanced at the strange combination of Jude and Tony suspiciously, and then asked quietly, "Who are you looking for?" ”
Jude stepped forward and stood in front of him.
"Mr. Lubezki, we spoke on the phone half an hour ago, remember?"
"You don't look like the pictures in the newspapers, I mean, you're really Jude Locke?" Ayman Rul Lubezki looked Jude up and down, his face full of suspicion.
"Unless there's any benefit to pretending to be Jude Locke, the guy standing in front of you should be the guy you saw in the newspapers." Jude solemnly pulled out his revoked driver's license from his pocket and handed it to Ayman Ruhr Lubezki.
"It's really you!" Aiman Rul Lubezki took his driver's license and carefully compared it to the real person, "But I have a doubt, shouldn't your driver's license be revoked?" ”
Jude shrugged, "I never said it was a valid driver's license, but it's the only thing that proves my identity at the moment." ”
"Alright, come in!"
Ayman Rul Lubezki stepped aside and spouted at Nunu in the room.
As soon as he sat down on the sofa in the living room, Jude asked, "Mr. Lubezki, I wonder if you have seriously considered the incident I mentioned to you on the phone?" ”
"I wasn't even sure you were Jude Locke, so you get it." Emmanrul Lubezki pulled out three cans of drinks from the fridge, threw one each for Jude and Tony, unscrewed one for himself, and then leaned against the refrigerator and drank it, saying as he drank, "So you're really preparing a movie?" ”
"The guy next to me is one of the film's stars, Tony Todd."
As soon as Jude mentioned himself, Tony, who was drinking a drink, hurriedly put down the can and raised his hand to say hello to Emmanrul Lubezki.
"It's unbelievable that there are still people willing to invest in making movies for you." Aiman Rul Lubezki pursed his lips, and the tone of mockery was audible to anyone.
Jude was already immune to such ridicule and even corrected Ayman Ruhr Lubezki's claims.
"To be precise, this film is a low-budget production that I personally invested in."
"Wow! It sounds very powerful, the Hollywood bad boy actually didn't act in movies, but played the director, which was definitely a big news story when you were popular in the few years. Emmanrul-Lubezki took a sip of his drink and smiled at Jude after putting it down, "Unfortunately, I'm not interested in it!" ”
"Don't hide your refusal yet, maybe you can read the script first."
Jude was about to take the script out of his briefcase when Ayman Rul Lubezki interrupted him.
"No need, no matter how good your script is, it still doesn't appeal to me, don't forget that I'm a photographer, not the kind of actor who is willing to take on any drama in order to become famous."
Tony immediately remembered to reason with Ayman Rull Lubezki, because it was clearly directed at him, but Jude was able to pull him back in time.
"In Hollywood, I've only seen actors in the sky, but I haven't seen a photographer in the sky, Mr. Lubezki, don't forget that you're just a photographer who isn't famous, that's all."
Jude said this calmly.
Ayman Ruhr Lubezki's face suddenly turned cold, and the hand holding the can clenched even more unconsciously.
Jude is right, Ayman Rul Lubezki is now a talented guy, although he participated in the filming of a comedy film called "Four Graduates" half a year ago, but the film received a mediocre response after its release, and even the director of the film, Ben Stiller, had to consider transforming into an actor, not to mention Ayman Ruel Lubezki, a small photographer.
"You think I'll promise you?"
Aiman Rul Lubezki quickly calmed down, he is not an impulsive person, and such people are often difficult to convince.
Jude finally came up with the killer idea: "The whole film will be shot in one shot, which means that I am going to shoot the whole film with one long shot, and I think it will be a rare experience for any cinematographer." ”
Ayman Rul-Lubezki was stunned, then shook his head with a smile.
"It seems like you know very little about cinematographers, and you think it's cool to shoot a whole movie with one long shot, but it's really a pointless showmanship, or like a trick, and I don't want my film to be remembered just for tricks. So you're putting the cart before the horse. ”
Seeing that Jude was silent, Emmanrul Lubezki continued: "The movement of the camera should be the 'organism' of the film, and I hate the word 'organism', but it is really part of the film, a part of the life force of the character. Every cinematographer knows that the rhythm of the long shot must be appropriate, otherwise it is very easy to make the plot appear loose and dragging, and some necessary editing methods can better help the audience enter the world of the characters, making the film immersive and accessible...... Of course, in fact, I would say anything to you, because you are a layman at all. ”
Jude suddenly raised his hand and applauded Aymanrul Lubezki's words.
"Very wonderful explanation, but my advice is still, please read the script before giving your opinion."
Looking at the folder handed over by Jude, Emmanrul Lubezki hesitated for a moment, but finally took it. Partly because of curiosity, but partly because he wanted to know where Jude's confidence came from.
