Chapter 8: Divergence
Back at the restaurant, Tony finds that his words have unfortunately come true.
The curly-haired man I just saw outside the door was sitting with Kate, talking and laughing, and the relationship seemed very intimate.
Jude turned his head and shrugged at the stunned Tony, "You guessed it! ”
"You knew he was Kate's boyfriend? You've known each other before? ”
Tony asked two questions in one go, neither of which could fully express his inner surprise.
"A handsome man who behaves a lot like an Englishman happens to be outside the restaurant again, and it's easy to think of Kate's boyfriend mentioned earlier." Jude lied about this, but the plausible explanation easily convinced Tony.
Seeing the two of them walking towards this side, Ketra stood up together with her boyfriend's hand.
"Mike, he's the director I just told you about who is going to make a sci-fi movie for $20,000, and the most important thing is that his script idea is really good." Kate enthusiastically introduced her boyfriend.
"Hello, I'm Mike Sheen."
Mike didn't recognize Jude immediately, so he kindly reached for him.
"Jude Locke."
Jude politely shook Mike's hand, and gave his name by the way.
The expression on Mike Sheen's face suddenly became strange, but he restrained himself, smiled at Jude and said sorry, and then pulled Kate straight to the side.
"You didn't tell me that you were working with Jude Locke."
"I was about to say." Kate looked at Mike, a little puzzled as to why he had reacted the way he did.
"I was on the phone with my agent this morning and he mentioned some things to look out for in Hollywood, one of which is to stay away from the notorious actors, and Jude Locke is on the list!"
Mike looked at Kate with a serious expression, and it was clear that he didn't have a good impression of Jude.
"But what does that have to do with my participation in this film? Yes, Jude Locke's reputation in Hollywood is really bad, but it's really interesting that he's going to make this film, and I feel like it's an experience that shouldn't be missed. ”
Kate put her hand on Mike's chest, trying to calm him down.
"On your terms, you can get a good role, why do you have to get involved with Jude Locke? Either way, you have to push off the Jude Locke movie character. ”
Mike's attitude on this issue is very stubborn, even a little unreasonable.
"Mike, are you ordering me?" Kate looked at her boyfriend in disbelief, no matter what decision she made before, the other party would support her unconditionally, instead of refusing to even listen to her thoughts as she does now.
"I'm sorry, Kate, I was too emotional." Mike also realized that there was something wrong with what he had just said, especially the look of disappointment he saw in his girlfriend's eyes, which made him regret it a little, but his position on the issue of stopping Kate and Jude from working together still did not waver. "With $20,000 in filming dollars, and a bunch of guys like this who aren't even actors, what do you think they can make a decent movie?"
"I promise you won't have that idea after reading the script, it's a really interesting work." Kate looked at her boyfriend helplessly, suddenly feeling helpless.
Mike covered his forehead with a headache, he couldn't understand how his girlfriend had become so stubborn.
"If Jude Locke had come up with a good script, would he have gotten to where he is now?"
"It is precisely because he has fallen to this point that he came up with such a good script, maybe you can't imagine that this script was conceived and completed by him in prison."
Kate's rebuttal brought the conversation to a stalemate, and on the other end of the restaurant, Tony gloated a little over reminding Jude: "It looks like Kate's boyfriend doesn't like you." ”
Jude glanced over there over there from where Kate and Mike were standing, then pouted, "Actually, I'm not going to like him either." ”
Seeing Jude's indifferent look, Tony couldn't help but tease: "You're not worried about Kate quitting because of this?" Or do you expect that the next time we get together, a beautiful young actress will eavesdrop on our conversation and then be drawn into the script to join us? ”
"First of all, you have to be clear, if Kate chooses to quit, she will lose out of her, not me." Jude leaned back with his hands in his hands, "I can adjust the script at any time, it's easy. ”
"So there will be more lines assigned to each of us?" Jeff suddenly interjected, "God forbid, Kate don't quit!" ”
Petty extinguished the cigarette butt in her hand in the ashtray, poked it angrily and said, "I think you are reluctant to lose such a beautiful and beautiful 'schoolgirl', right?" ”
Jeff spread his hands nonchalantly: "Even you admit that she is beautiful, what else can I say?" ”
Petty glanced at him, too lazy to say more.
"Okay, stop arguing, they're coming." Tony, who was keeping an eye on the situation, motioned for everyone to be silenced.
Soon Kate came over, and although she tried hard to pretend that nothing happened, the faint sorrow in her eyes betrayed her mood at the moment.
"I'm sorry, Mike and I had some disagreements, can you give me a day to think about the decision you just made?"
According to Jude's plan, "This Man from Earth" had to be filmed in a month in time for the Sundance Film Festival in early January, which was the most direct way to get the low-budget film to the media and the public.
And the one-shot approach to filming will make the film more unpredictable, so time is the most precious thing for Jude now.
Reason tells Jude that he should refuse Kate's request, but when he looks into Kate's pleading eyes, the refusal is a little unspeakable.
"You'd better bring the script and call me as soon as you decide."
"Thank you!"
Kate gave Jude a grateful look, picked up the script and turned to leave.
In the process, she didn't communicate with Mike Sheen who was waiting on the side, until she pushed the door and left, and Mike Sheen came to his senses and quickly chased him out.
"I'll bet 50 dollars, and Kate will quit."
"I'll bet 20 yuan, she won't."
"I'll bet 30......"
Tony initiates a gamble, and the others respond.
Surprisingly, Jude not only did not stop it, but also bet on it.
"I'll bet 100 yuan, she won't quit!"
