Chapter 171: The Problem (1) [Asking for a Monthly Pass]

It's the middle of the month, please have a monthly pass!

The models developed this time are prepared for mid-to-high-end models, so they must have quite eye-catching high-tech content in order to catch the attention of consumers, especially mid-to-high-end consumers.

There is nothing to say about Ecoboost on the engine, and Jin Xiaoqiang abandoned his original idea after thinking about it, and developed two EcoBoost engines in line 4 cylinders and V6 at the same time, but fortunately before Li Qiming and Liu Hong's argument, the two of them were in Jin Xiaoqiang before he came back, according to the drawings sent back by Jin Xiaoqiang, they each completed the design and manufacture of the inline 4 and V6 Ecoboost engines.

It just so happens that this time Jin Xiaoqiang plans to copy the original GM Regal and LaCrosse two models, he plans to install a 4-cylinder engine on the smaller Regal, and a V6 engine on LaCrosse, which just solves the two problems of mid-range and high-end.

But the remaining problem is the transmission that this car says it will be equipped with.

The original models of Regal and LaCrosse are equipped with GM's own 6-speed automatic manual transmission, but this transmission has been criticized by consumers since then.

This time, Jin Xiaoqiang plans to give the Powershift dual-clutch transmission that Ford later came up with, and then directly install it on this model.

The concept of dual-clutch transmission has actually been born for decades, but it has never been popularized in ordinary family cars, firstly because the technology has been immature, and secondly, because the cost is too high.

In 1940 the dual-clutch transmission was taken by the Frenchman Adolf. The Galci was invented and used in Citroën models, but it was not long before the United States broke out in the world war.

The major European automobile manufacturers have also terminated the research on dual-clutch transmissions and have devoted themselves to the research of weapons of war.

At this time, the Americans on the other side of the ocean invented a fully automatic transmission, and GM used this transmission widely in automobiles, but what really popularized the concept of automatic transmission was that GM used this transmission in the M5 and M24 light tanks of the US military.

Later, after the end of the world war, this fully automatic transmission, like the Americans' Coca-Cola, has been pam luncheon meat, Coca-Cola, was brought to the world by the Americans, and was accepted by many people.

After the end of the war, many European car manufacturers gave up the original dual-clutch technology, and instead developed fully automatic transmissions, only one company, Porsche, still remembered the dual-clutch, and even developed a few, applied to their racing cars, and in the 78 years achieved several good results, dual-clutch transmissions began to return to people's attention.

However, due to cost and technology problems, it has not been widely promoted.

It was not until 2003 that Volkswagen took out the dual-clutch transmission again in order to cope with the shrinking global market and the pressure of car manufacturers.

And it was used in the strongest version of the Golf 4 generation, the R32 model, and it was this transmission that made the original 0-100km/h of the R32 from 6.6 seconds to 6.4 seconds, which not only won the reputation of the European small steel cannon for the R32, but also made the dual-clutch transmission also famous all over the world.

Volkswagen happily named this transmission the new DQ250, replacing the original old model, and it is by virtue of this transmission gimmick that Volkswagen expanded rapidly from 03 to 07, and in just five years, they sold more than one million cars with dual-clutch transmissions.

And the Americans also quickly followed, among which the fastest response was Ford, but because of the previous technical debt, the Americans did not come up with a dual-clutch transmission called PowerSIHFT until 07, and at this time the German Volkswagen's DSG dual-clutch transmission has long been famous all over the world.

But things are not as smooth as they are taken for granted, and while Volkswagen is rapidly expanding, their DSG dual-clutch transmission is also constantly being exposed to flawed scandals.

For example, when the car is starting, there is a strong shake in the car, the frustration is obvious when changing from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, and even the most dangerous thing is when driving in the city, when you stop and go because of traffic jams, the internal temperature of the gearbox is too high, which eventually leads to the car breaking down, and even spontaneous combustion.

Such a problem has widely appeared in Volkswagen's Sutar brand and other cars, which not only attracted attention in the United States, but also caused criticism from many consumers in the Celestial Empire.

Finally, shortly before Jin Xiaoqiang's rebirth, Volkswagen had to recall a large number of cars equipped with this dual-clutch transmission around the world for modification.

And this is also the main reason why Jin Xiaoqiang chose Ford's Powershift dual-clutch transmission to copycat, rather than Volkswagen's DSG to copycat.

Ford's dual-clutch transmission, developed later than Volkswagen, but it is precisely because of the late time, it also coincided with the frequent problems of Volkswagen's transmission, so Ford's engineers, as well as Getrag's engineers, have done a lot of work in this regard, so as to avoid Ford's dual-clutch will encounter Volkswagen's DSG problems.

The reason why the dual-clutch transmission is still chosen for research and development is also because such a transmission will become a mainstream transmission that must be equipped with high-end models in a few years, although Volkswagen's DSG has exploded a lot of negative rumors, but it does not prevent people from loving dual-clutch transmissions, after all, compared with AT transmissions, it has its own small loss, good transmission of surnames, fast shift response, fuel saving, emission reduction and so on.

So now is a good time to start with the dual-clutch transmission, you must know that a few years later, not only Volkswagen's cars are equipped with dual-clutch transmissions, Mitsubishi, Yuesan, BMW, Citroen, Hyundai and other world-renowned large automobile companies, will begin to use such transmissions, and according to expectations, by 2015, 13-15% of the world's cars will be equipped with dual-clutch transmissions, so this is definitely the general trend.

Originally, the work of this copycat Ford's dual-clutch transmission was also carried out very smoothly, from drawing to production.

This transmission is a wet transmission, which means that the gearbox is full of oil, and Volkswagen's dual-clutch first adopted this design, but later part of it was dry, because of the simple structure and low cost.

The design is carried out in accordance with Ford's original design, the drawings are drawn, and then the processing begins, and then the assembly is carried out, Jin Xiaoqiang in order to block the road of Ford, it can be said that he has done everything, and even the hollow design adopted by Ford on the transmission gear has been copied over, which is used to reduce the weight of the entire gearbox.

You must know that these are the technical selling points that Ford was proud of later, but unfortunately now all of them have become Jin Xiaoqiang's inventions, and he also added a lot of his own designs to them, and some of them were copied from Ford's improved technology later.

It's only 2004, and it's just when Ford is just beginning to react to Volkswagen's offensive, and that's when they're starting to pay attention to dual-clutch transmissions, and they've just started to organize research on them with their partner Getrag.

How could they have thought that the product that should have belonged to them a few years later was now copied away by Jin Xiaoqiang?

quickly completed the design of each part, and then processed and assembled, and then began to test the machine, but at this time, Jin Xiaoqiang encountered a problem.

That is, the cooling oil in the gearbox, which could not meet the specifications, caused his transmission to encounter the same problem as Volkswagen's dual-clutch transmission, that is, once the oil temperature inside the transmission exceeded 138 degrees, the ECU of the car would reduce the power output, and when the oil temperature exceeded 145 degrees, the clutch would automatically disconnect, and the entire transmission would automatically strike!

This made Jin Xiaoqiang, who was originally full of confidence, dumbfounded, originally this should be a unique problem on the DSG dual-clutch transmission belonging to Volkswagen, but now how did he get his own transmission?

In fact, Jin Xiaoqiang also knows that the first dual-clutch transmission named DQ250 used by Volkswagen is actually not much different from the dual-clutch transmission of Powershift developed by Ford later in terms of structure, that is, the name is different, but the content inside is actually very similar.

They are all six-gear wet dual-clutch transmissions, but Ford's engineers, drawing on some problems reflected in Volkswagen's transmission, have made some fine-tuning on the gears and gear layout of the transmission, so as to avoid the body shaking and the feeling of frustration when Volkswagen's transmission is downshifted in the high gear.

But I didn't expect that after copying Ford's transmission, although I solved the problem of shift frustration and body shaking, I would be stumped by this high temperature shutdown problem.

Jin Xiaoqiang pondered carefully for less than half an hour, and then he figured it out, in fact, in later generations, the reason why Ford's wet dual-clutch did not have Volkswagen's high-temperature shutdown problem was that changes were made to the temperature sensing components inside the transmission, and secondly, it was related to the lubricating oil inside the transmission.

After the launch of Volkswagen's dual-clutch products, a lot of problems soon broke out, among which the most reported by consumers was the problem of the transmission suddenly stopping and not moving when it was at high temperature.

Ford also noticed this, and although it made corresponding adjustments after that, the final problem was solved by using a different cooling oil in the gearbox.

Now although Jin Xiaoqiang can copy the structure of Ford's dual-clutch transmission, where did he get the formula of lubricating oil with very good cooling?

You must know that he is only a mechanical professional talent, but he is not a chemical professional talent, Ford also worked on it for five years to get his own dual-clutch transmission, which is for this cooling problem, it must also be a nerve-wracking, as far as the current time period is concerned, people must not have come up with the cooling oil!

How do you do it?
