Paul, Inst, Alves, these are the three assistant directors who joined "Inception", all three have participated in many Hollywood blockbusters, have rich experience but do not have too much capital, this is Shao Shuaijun's favorite type of assistant director. For Hollywood, he is a rookie director who has had a failed experience, and an assistant director who is too bullish is not easy to manage.
With the three assistant directors in place, the crew began to prepare efficiently. Almost within a week, a complete framework was built.
The producers are Shao Shuaijun, and Mitchell, general manager of Summit Entertainment. Bruce, Wang Wei, general manager of Dream Chasing Film and Television Company.
The assistant directors are Paul, Inst, Alves. The assistant director is Gao Zhisheng.
Director of Photography by Bob. Adams was the photographer David Adams. Ouer, Huang Yuetai, Hatton. Barry.
The action director is Dong Wei.
The art direction is Guy Handix. Dyce, he is a famous Hollywood prop master, and has worked as a prop master in "Star Wars" and "Batman: Time to War". He did not join the crew alone, but led a professional team to join. At the same time, the original "Painted Skin" props group was also pulled in by Shao Shuaijun to participate in the construction of props.
The special effects director is Chris. Kobald, a top special effects artist at Double-Negative, is a Hollywood professional effects company that has worked on epic special effects blockbusters such as "Spider-Man" and "Batman". One of the more important reasons why I chose this company is that they are very accomplished in the synthesis of props and special effects. And not just professional digital matte painting.
The crew and staff were basically there, and Shao Shuaijun held another meeting.
"It's a pleasure to bring everyone together to work and hopefully we can enjoy working and making an amazing film over the next few months. Okay, now that you're familiar with the script, it's time to discuss the work schedule for the entire filming process. The casting of the actors, which is the responsibility of the producer and the director team, will be discussed later. Well, Dyce. Let's talk about the construction of props, right? ”
Guy Handix. Days is in his fifties. With a pair of reading glasses, he spread out the notebook in his hand: "That's right, according to the script, I discussed it with the props team once before. We planned about six filming locations. First. It is the magic capital of China. If you need a regular cityscape shot, you can contact your local government for this. Also, on Chongming Island. There is also a seaside castle to be built, which must be started as soon as possible. ”
"Well, go ahead."
"Second, in London, the street scene was very simple. As for the hotel in weightlessness, our plan was to have an airport converted set in Cardington, north London, where there was a very large stage, where we could set up a revolving hotel corridor and hotel rooms. Thirdly, filming in Paris, France, may be difficult, especially the blasting problem, which requires special experiments, which also need to be prepared in advance. Fourth, in Tangier and Los Angeles, it is easy to shoot, and the scene where the locomotive rushes into the street can also be done with a combination of props and special effects. ”
"What about the final battle of the Great Snow Mountain, how to shoot it?" Shao Shuaijun touched his chin and asked.
Days smiled: "Tell the director a good news, my friend told me that Banff National Park in Calgary, Canada, there is a mountain fortress mountain, which was originally a ski resort, but it has been closed because of efficiency issues. We can shoot snow scenes there and build a model of the castle. ”
"This is indeed good news. Now that you've planned the venue, let's conduct a site visit and build the scene. The shooting sequence is Magic City, London, Paris, Tangier, Calgary and Los Angeles, the prop masters must prepare all the props, and Wang Wei and Mitchell must actively contact the local government to cooperate. ”
"No problem."
Shao Shuaijun flipped through the agenda of the meeting and continued: "Let's discuss the issue of shooting equipment, Bob, you can introduce it." ”
Bob. Adams is tall, sturdy, and has a long beard: "From the analysis of the script, what we have to encounter is not only the problem of lighting, but also the problem of covering and eliminating various props. To meet the director's requirements, we may need five types of equipment. Sony's 4K digital camera Digital-Intermediate, which can help us shoot some ultra-clear shots. HDCAM-SR high-speed camera for shooting delayed contrast between dreams and reality, slowing down double speed. Panavision's regular 35mm camera and special five-hole 35mm camera are used for routine shooting. There are also Vista-Vision aerial cameras and IMAX cameras. ”
"What do you think about light distribution?"
"We have a dedicated Technicolor lab for light distribution in traditional photochemical processes, and the exposure of natural light is faster than that of a typical digital intermediate. I hope that the director will take us 10 minutes before filming each scene to adjust the lighting to match the lighting in the later stage. ”
The original English word "Color-Timing" is literally understood in English, and you may wonder what this process has to do with "timing time".
This goes back to the days of black-and-white films, when color was not yet involved, and lighting distribution only involved the control of light and shade in the picture. So all the optometrist has to do is to adjust and record the exposure time required for different shots, hence the term Timing.
After the advent of color technology, the Timing narrative was still retained, even in the digital age.
Today's photometric work is carried out entirely in a digital environment after the film has been processed into a digital intermediate, and the efficiency and freedom obtained by the photometrology technician are extremely high. In the early years, the electronic light distribution technology was relatively troublesome, but through the electronic circuit visualization of the electronic light distribution machine, the light distribution technician can still directly preview the light distribution results, so as to work quickly.
In the most traditional light distribution, photochemical methods are used to adjust the exposure of the three primary colors in the film, and the solid intermediate film must be printed to observe the adjusted result. The process is complex, time-consuming, and costly, and more expensive than today's digital intermediates.
But this is the most real and natural light and dark.
"If you can shorten the post-production time, of course you can set aside time for your camera crew to adjust the lighting." Shao Shuaijun readily agreed. "Inception" pursues a real dream experience, and if there are flaws in the picture, it has to be said that this will greatly affect the viewing experience. So Shao Shuaijun would rather shoot a little more troublesome and have the best effect.
After assigning the specific work, Shao Shuaijun asked the three assistant directors to preside over the scene layout in various places, and he, Mitchell and Wang Wei began to discuss the selection of roles. The main characters of "Inception", in addition to the Inception Six, also have two important characters: Phantom and Target.
These six people, Shao Shuaijun, have to be personally reviewed, and the other supporting roles are handed over to Mitchell to be responsible. (To be continued......)
