Chapter 3: God and Paul
A week later, in the evening, when Daniel returned from work at the hot dog shop, it was past nine o'clock in the evening. David's sixth call was finally picked up.
"Hey, Danny, I'm going to blow up your phone." David complained hurriedly.
According to David, today a gentleman went to Claire's hot dog shop to find Daniel, and he claimed to be a film director who had a role in his new film that could give Daniel an audition.
"Are you sure that's not a liar?"
Daniel really finds it hard to believe that he will be so lucky, but if you always have this mentality, Hollywood's opportunities have nothing to do with you, those successful actors always have a variety of debut stories to tell to the public, each of which is a godsend, you can't say that everyone is a lying bitch.
Hollywood itself is a place of chance.
"Oh no, I mean did he leave you a contact information?"
"Of course, you remember......," Davy said, as he snapped a string of numbers, "his name is Brian, and it's Mr. Robbins." ”
"Okay, thank you David, I'll contact him immediately, I'll tell you when there's news."
Brian Robbins, Daniel thought about it for a long time, and didn't remember that there was such a person among the famous Hollywood directors in the future, of course, this is normal, and potential stocks are not so easy to meet.
He quickly decided to give Brian a call, and if it was an opportunity, it would be thundering if he didn't seize it.
……
Two days ago, Brian, who had traveled to New York to talk to the screenwriter about the script, got bad news in his Manhattan apartment.
The actor they chose to play Billy Bob was a high school student who had come to New York from Texas, and the teenager was ecstatic that he could finally appear in a movie, so he decided to celebrate.
The teenagers who played at the party lit the tablecloth, called the police, and were confiscated by the way.
The angry guardian decided to cut off his path into the entertainment industry, so, when filming was about to begin, an important supporting actor died early.
Brian went into a rage on the phone call to Michael, calling the casting director a pig.
"Could it be that among so many young boys in Hollywood and the whole of America, there is no normal person who does not suck **? Why look for a high school student who has no sense of responsibility and self-control? Simply stupid and incorrigible! ”
Brian has obviously forgotten his original approval of this casting, and yes, a real high school student to play a high school student, oh, that just sounds cool.
Michael Tollin is no less angry than he is, but the work has to go on, doesn't it? The two angry creators couldn't afford to get back the $15 million investment in the studio.
"Find another one from the list of recommendations from the Screen Actors Guild? Or just use Lang Liszt? ”
Ron Liszt is the second best actor in the interview after this addicted high school student.
"If the Screen Actors Guild guys could use it, we wouldn't have bothered so much," Brian had to calm his anger and think rationally, "Liszt is Liszt, oh, I don't want to use an actor who looks stupid - hey, wait, Michael." ”
At this time, "New York Street Food" is habitually broadcast on TV, this time in a cheese shop, and the chef is an old man with a red nose.
"Hey, Michael, do you remember the last time you saw the hot dog chef on my TV at home? Small red sausage. ”
"Yes, pretty Billy, Brian, you-"
"Why not? Maybe God has prepared it for us a long time ago, but we don't understand it, so there will be so much trouble. ”
Michael Tollin knows his partner is exhausted by the new film.
"Of course, let him give it a try. That's a lucky kid. ”
……
Daniel, who had come to Los Angeles from New York, was still trying to make hot dogs, work out, and prepare a well-worded self-recommendation email, but Claire's hot dog shop persevered to bring him a ray of light.
Daniel made a phone call to Brian and learned that he was in Bryan in Los Angeles and asked Michael directly to schedule an interview for him. Since he is self-willed, the responsibility of the checkpoint is still handed over to Michael.
After asking his boss for two days off, Daniel struggled to read the script synopsis and audition clips that Michael had sent him.
This is a school movie that he has no memory of, a war between a group of high school football team players, cold-blooded coaches, and social pressures, and of course about American liberalism, which calls for natural and individual independence.
Of course, such a movie does not have any harsh requirements for acting, in fact, as long as the protagonist is handsome enough and the story is told smoothly, the rest of the movie is to resign itself to fate and wait for the resonance of the audience's hormonal frequency.
However, Daniel saw a familiar name when he flipped through the credits.
Paul Walker!
The second protagonist, or the first supporting character, Lance.
Daniel took a breath of cool air, the Hollywood superstar who died at the age of forty and, as if by fate, died in a speeding car accident, echoing his best-known work, the Fast and Furious series.
The seventh part of the series, which swept 2.2 billion yuan in China, even used computer technology to complete Paul's unfinished business.
And now, Paul is still an ordinary man at the age of twenty-five, and his career has not improved.
Brian provided Daniel with the role of Billy Bob, the main defender of the Little Wolves, his fat body gave him a certain deterrent on the court, but the ruthless pressure of the cold-blooded coach still made him exhausted, and finally fell into a coma during the game, and directly led Paul's Lance to irreparable serious injuries, so that he ruined his entire athletic career.
At the end of the film, Billy, who is despised by everyone, becomes Mr. Key and ultimately helps the team win.
It's a cliché and inspirational story.
But in Daniel's view, Billy is actually the most basic character in the whole story, whether it is Jonathan or Lance, both of whom follow the expected situational changes, Jonathan goes from substitute to Mr. Key, to the good boy who escapes temptation, and finally leads the team to victory; Lance started out in a brilliant way, then suffered a fatal setback, and finally replaced the Devil's Sect leader and won the victory with his friends.
These are all clichéd characters in cliché stories.
But Billy is different, he is unremarkable, but he has a significant physical flaw - he is very fat, which makes him a crossfire between the cold-blooded coach and the team. And later, the twist of the story, the limit of the contradiction focuses on him, it is his fall that leads him to the uncontrollable, Lance's athletic career is ruined, and Jonathan begins to take to the court. In the last paragraph of the film, he has another vulgar inspirational plot, he is despised by everyone and becomes the key to victory, and those depressed young people should be able to get some encouragement from him.
Daniel has starred in more than a dozen Chinese independent films in his last life, most of which are of good quality, and the characters he plays are basically low-level, emotionally sincere characters.
So, for an out-and-out experiential actor, the character of Billy is just a pediatric.
But what kind of Billy needs from director and producer Michael of Blair, Daniel still needs to figure it out, Billy belongs to a part of American high school students, and he also needs to condense from Daniel himself and his classmates and friends.
A day is not much.
The audition took place in the audition room for MTV Studios, which is the main producer of the film, and Paramount was involved in the production, but mainly in distribution.
It was a dedicated audition, and there was no representation from the Screen Actors Guild, both in a very hurry and because Daniel was not a member of the Screen Actors Guild at all.
Michael Tollin and casting director Tritsch were present.
