Chapter 18: Adventures

86_86324 After closing the door, we turned into the makeshift corridor again. I really didn't expect that I would only be at home for a few hours after more than ten days of hard work. People are always like this, when faced with something they don't want to see, they will choose to escape.

It's much easier to go downstairs than upstairs, and I don't have to be so nervous that I can count my steps as I did when I came. After a while, the concrete staircase under our feet turned into tiles, and we were back at the bottom of the building. I was still a few steps away from the iron gate when I suddenly heard something outside the door.

It was as if someone was talking.

Duan Ke and I glanced at each other, and immediately opened the iron door and looked out. Could it be someone in the community who survived? There were at least two people talking there, and maybe I knew them.

Sure enough, a car was parked on the road in the community more than 20 meters outside the building, and next to the car, three men were smoking and talking. I don't know them, though. The three of them held their heads high and looked around, as if looking for something.

When I tried to get closer and see better, the door behind me closed, and there was an immediate "pop" from the impact of the metals. The eyes of the three men were immediately drawn to the sound and looked at us. The five men looked at each other for a few seconds before they let out an exclamation, then shook off the cigarette butts in their hands and rushed towards us.

For a moment, I thought of the story that Uncle Wang told and the figure in the park.

Damn it! These three people must have followed us all the way here, and they came for Duan Ke, and I immediately anticipated the consequences of Duan Ke's captivity.

I grabbed Duan Ke's arm, pushed open the iron door and ran backwards, and at the same time, I could see the three of them getting closer and closer to us, shouting as they ran. I pulled Duan Ke into the place where we were going downstairs, and there was nothing left to hide on the left and right except for two cold metal elevator doors and the entrance to the makeshift hallway. I quickly calculated how fast I was pulling the Duan Ke up the stairs, and they would definitely catch up, and even if I ran past them, it would be a dead end to the top of the building, and I was not confident that I would be able to subdue the three men.

Getting into the elevator might be a good idea, but I certainly don't have the time and strength to open the elevator doors, and it's unknown how many floors the elevator will stop on now. In the same way, staying here was like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, the footsteps and shouts outside were getting closer and closer, and my mind was blank, and I didn't know what to do when I stood in front of the elevator door.

Hope is always revealed at the last minute. I had already made up my mind to push Duan Ke up the stairs, but I found a small wooden door next to the fire hydrant around the corner. The wooden door seemed to be attached to it, and the surface was painted with a layer of white paint, blending in with the surrounding walls in the dark, and it was hard to notice unless you looked closely. It was when I felt that it didn't feel right when I ran away from the wall, and I found out that it was in storage.

I was overjoyed, and carefully and quickly unbuttoned it, and found it pitch black inside, stacked with brooms and the like. The only thing that is certain is that there will definitely not be enough room for me and Duan Ke in it, so I can only fit Duan Ke who is sideways. Without thinking about it, Duan Ke pushed in, she turned her head sideways and looked at me in horror, her right hand pulling at my sleeve.

"You just hide inside, don't make a sound, don't come out if I don't tell you to come out." I whispered to her quickly, shaking off her hand and closing the wooden door. The men were at most ten paces away from me, and I could hear their footsteps echoing into the unit.

No other way. I pulled through the wooden door of the makeshift hallway and hid myself in the triangle that formed between the door and the corner. In order to fool them, I reached for the flashlight as fast as I could, turned it on, threw it up the stairs, and then pulled through the door and hid inside.

I heard the flashlight scrolling down the stairs after hitting it, and I heard the men gasping for breath and running in. Maybe the light inside was dim, and they hadn't gotten used to it, so they slowed down when they walked in. Knowing that any sound I make now would be noticed by them, I froze my body with all my strength and suppressed the frequency of my heartbeat with all my willpower.

The flashlight was still rolling down, accompanied by a rhythmic sound.

"Look, it's running upstairs." One man said, and he could hear what was still chewing in his mouth. They were attracted to the entrance to the corridor by the sound of flashlights. Now I was just a door away from them, and I could even hear their breathing and the sound of a few pairs of shoes rubbing against the ground.

They were almost tricked away by the flashlight I flicked, and I thought I had already started planning how to get Duan Ke away and escape quickly later.

"There's no hurry." Another voice rang out, and the man should have been a little older than the more immature voice before. These two words instantly lifted my heart again. As if ordered by something, the people outside stopped moving, except for the sound of my heart beating. I was afraid that they would hear this small sound, so I pressed my whole body to the wall behind me, hoping that the concrete wall would stabilize my heart that was about to beat out.

After more than ten seconds, the footsteps started again, and it sounded like one of them had walked into the makeshift hallway. Sure enough, through the crack in the door, I saw a few flashes of light outside, and a figure picked up the flashlight I had thrown off. After a few more seconds, he turned off the flashlight, and immediately it went dark outside the crack in the door, and there was no one to be seen, and God knows what they were doing outside. I thought they might be able to hear their breathing, and started trying to hold their breath again.

I heard them whisper a few words, and wondered if they had discovered me. Before I could say half of the sentence, I heard something slam against the door in front of me, making a loud noise. The sudden loud bang made my body tremble, and my palm accidentally touched the door. The three people outside immediately burst into laughter, and my mind went blank again, and if I could see my own face, it would be miserable white.

The door was violently opened, and I was trying to cover my face with my hands as if I had been stripped of my clothes. The three of them kept laughing, then turned on the flashlight and dangled it in my face. Since I was discovered, I couldn't be humiliated by them, I thought, so I put my hand down. The three of them surrounded me in the corner, and I couldn't see their faces clearly because of the flashlights in front of me. It was uncomfortable to be hit in the face with a flashlight, but I didn't dodge it and let the beam of light enter my pupils. I looked at them as viciously as I could, even though I couldn't see any of them.

Maybe they had laughed enough, and a man came up to me, chewing gum and saying to me with disdain, "Get out." ”

I didn't look at him, spat on the ground, lifted my backpack, and walked past him with my head held high. Turning around the corner of the wall, I noticed several candles scattered on the floor, which must have been brought out by me in a hurry when I touched the flashlight from my backpack. I scolded myself dozens of times in a second, and I made such a low-level mistake in such a critical situation.

The three of them violently pushed me out of the unit, and I didn't have any intention of struggling, just begging them not to find Duan Ke. As I passed through the wooden door, I tried to pray that Duan Ke wouldn't suddenly jump out or something. Fortunately, the attention of the three of them was all on me, and they didn't find the wooden door, and Duan Ke was not a girl who dropped the chain at a critical moment, and there was no sound in the wooden door.

Less than half a step out of the apartment building, a man suddenly grabbed me by the hair and dragged me out, and the backpack in my hand was also ripped away. He pulled me to the car, and the person behind me stepped on the knee, and I fell to my knees. An extra hand on my shoulder also pressed me down, and I struggled to lift one leg so I didn't fall to my knees. The man who grabbed me by the hair stood in front of me, pulled out a cigarette and lit it. I looked up at him, he looked about my age, he had a bullet-like haircut on his head, the power had been out for so long, and I don't know how he kept his hairstyle.

I turned my head to look at the other two, the one who looked younger, sixteen or seventeen years old, on my shoulder. The other was rummaging through my backpack on the hood of the car, his shaved head glistening in the sun and looking about the size of the man standing in front of me. In short, all three of them exude a ruffian vibe, which was certainly not a good thing before. The vitality of the bad guys is always very tenacious, and God shuffles the cards and can't wash them off, I laughed at myself in my heart
