Goal: Funny Artist! Interview with rookie voice actor Yuki Kuwabara

Every year, a large number of newcomers emerge in the Japanese voice actor industry, and for this reason, the Japanese media specially produced a program called "New Voice Actor Illustrated Guide". The show interviews and reports on some of the most promising rookie voice actors, to understand the behind-the-scenes stories of their entry into the industry, and their prospects for the future. In the latest issue of the "Rookie Voice Actor Guide", we will introduce Yuki Kuwabara, who once played the protagonist Arikawahime in the TV animation "Hime Daily".

Q: Last year, Ms. Kuwabara played the role of Latlu in the TV anime "Queen of Enchantments", and her cute eating at that time attracted a lot of praise!

Kuwabara: My parents once told me, "You look like this character when you eat!" Actually, I'm a standard foodie myself (laughs). And Radew was born in the poor class, so she chose to fight in order not to go hungry. So it's not surprising that you have a lot of food (laughs).

Q: This is also the first time you've played an important role in an anime. So did you put any effort into the dubbing?

Kuwabara: Radelu is a character who always feels uneasy, so she's often nervous and nervous. And I need to incorporate this kind of emotion into the dubbing. For example, when she says the line "Great", she must also include an uneasy mood......

Q: You really care about the details when you dub it!

Kuwabara: This is the first time I've taken on a major role, so I'm feeling uneasy...... I wonder if it was this uneasiness that resonated with Rutlu, and it turned out that she was so apprehensive by accident (laughs).

Q: At present, you are still playing the heroine in the hit "Ji Daily" (!?) So why did Arikawa Ji-kun become a pseudo-mother?

Kuwabara: Ji Jun is burdened with a huge amount of debt from her parents. He is poor and has no money, and while being chased by terrible people, he accidentally gets help from 3 members of the student council. And the student council helped him pay the arrears. However, as a condition for helping, he had to "show people in women's clothes"......

Q: It's a state of being raised by people.

Kuwabara: That's it! Three members of the student council told him, "You're going to be a dog of the student council!" (laughs)

Q: Is it simply "Shake M"!?

Kuwabara: Actually, Ji Jun has gradually awakened to this potential...... This is also the case in the original work, such as this scene: once someone from the student council comes over with a dog and says, "It's cuter like this," then Ji Jun will put on a dog leash herself. So although he always says he doesn't want it, maybe he really has this idea in him. Really, he's not going to really be a girl in the end, is he?

Q: Ji Jun's voice, although it sounds like a girl, but it also has a juvenile feeling. It's an incredible feeling!

Kuwabara: Actually, I think it's hard to imagine that even if he's a male voice actor, he can still show this kind of aura. Doesn't Ji Jun look very cute? He has a slender body and long hair. So I experienced a neutral taste from him that was hard to resist. In fact, when I chatted with the original author, Tsukukuru NORIO, the other party said, "I really hope to be able to interpret him cutely." "But after all, I'm still a pseudo-girl, so I also hope that the dubbing will reflect a little boyishness. Don't say it's a pseudo-mother before.,I haven't even tried a shonen type character.,So there were a lot of mistakes.。

Q: Did Miss Kuwabara have any opportunities to come into contact with "pseudo-girls" before?

Kuwabara: Once, in order to create a character, I went to the "Pseudo-Musume Cafe". The clerks there are all so cute! The hair is very flowy and the makeup is well dressed. And I was surprised to find that there are some people who have a thorough treble. In addition, their movements are also very good, and they feel like girls at heart. I'm a girl, but I feel like I've lost to them (laughs).

Q: The four main voice actors, including Ms. Kuwabara, were active as voice actor group "**MIMAIN" long before the anime began. In addition, it seems that he also sang the theme song and ending song for "Ji Daily".

Kuwabara: Yes. We also sang a solo song during the tour. At the event at the Fukuoka venue, I also challenged myself to compose lyrics and announced a song called "Hime-colored ribbon"! When I first got the melody of the song, I thought it was a very cute melody and it seemed to be floating. So I wanted to create a lyric that was like a dream. Actually, though, I've only had nightmares (laughs)! I'm always haunted by nightmares and wake up (laughs). With this reason in mind, I would like to make a fantastic song! It would be great if I could sing it before I go to bed and have a sweet dream~ So I also wrote the lyrics with this desire.

Q: What is the reaction of the fans?

Kuwabara: Everyone's comments were very gentle, saying that "I was healed by such cute lyrics" and "the action was so cute that it hit my heart". I'm really happy! I'm quite nervous when I'm singing alone (laughs).

Q: How did Ms. Kuwabara feel when she was with the people at **MIMAIN?

Kuwabara: Well, we're very noisy together (laughs)! The team was only formed in February, so it's only been a few months now, but we've been together for broadcasts, exclusive events, and often from morning to night, so we've been very good with each other in a short period of time. As for broadcasting, we're having chemistry at an astonishing rate (laughs). We chatted together without hiding our mood, even in normal times! Everyone expressed their feelings frankly (laughs).

Q: What is the position of Ms. Kuwabara among the members?

Kuwabara: I feel like I'm in charge of being funny! Although it is a self-proclaimed ...... (laughs) I feel like I'm constantly messing up the atmosphere (laughs). Speaking of which, I've cried twice while recording a radio (laughs). Once, on my birthday, everyone gave me a surprise cake, and I couldn't help but cry with joy. Another time it was the birthday of the skyscraper Yuka-chan, and we also prepared a cake at that time. I don't know why, but I was the one who cried (laughs). Everyone complained, "Why are you crying!?" "That's how I created that atmosphere (laughs). Maybe I'm a bomb that explodes easily (laughs).

Q: Is everyone's personality different?

Kuwabara: I think it's true that everyone has different personalities, but in a good sense, of course! Miss Hisako Tojo is a ruthless ...... That said, she also has a natural place (laughs). The skyscraper Yuka-chan is very cheerful and full of vitality is her registered trademark. On the other hand, Ono Sasa-chan is floating.,It's a healing system that does things at your own pace.。 Then, I'm a funny guy (laughs)!

Q: It seems that voice actor groups also have an "idol" side, so sometimes you find it hard to work, right?

Kuwabara: In this regard, I think we need to do a good job as a voice actor before we become idols. That's why I often think: we should improve our acting skills and find fun in singing and dancing. However, sometimes I go to concerts where many idol groups appear, and when I look at other people, I think their smiles and self-presentation methods are very good. We were more like watching the excitement and noisy, so there were a lot of places worth learning (laughs).

Q: Is there anything we can expect from the future under the name "**MMIMAIN"?

Kuwabara: Just like "Engaging in Hime Daily", I want four people to be able to participate in the same work! I feel like we're in a lot of sync with each other (laughs). In dubbing and broadcasting, we will follow each other, support each other, and then we will work together to make something good. It would be great if we could challenge with four people in the future.

Q: So why don't you ask Ms. Kuwabara a about herself? Your favorite manga seems to be Naruto, so you like the genre of shonen manga?

Kuwabara: Yes! I really like the works on Weekly Shonen Jump. When I decided to become a voice actor, I had the idea that I wanted to fight forever, and "Enchantment Queen" was the starting point for my dream. And in the works of "JUMP", there are also some heroines who shine while fighting. Girls don't usually fight, so I think there are some things that can only be felt in anime.

Q: Do you have any other favorite characters in the combat category?

Kuwabara: Kagura from Gintama! Miss Rie Narumiya, who voices Kagura, has a very cute voice, but what she says is extremely poisonous (laughs), and she can also show great abilities in battle. I am fascinated by this contrast. I'm a big fan of funny manga or funny anime. I've been laughing at works on this theme since I was a student.

Q: Are there any other funny manga & anime that you like?

Kuwabara: Yes! The indispensable thing is "Funny Manga Daywa". It's a 5-minute manga, but it's very substantial, and the pacing is great, making you laugh from the bottom of your heart (laughs). I watched it many times, and I felt that if there was a picture in front of me, I could recite all the lines (laughs). When I found out that I was going to appear in "Hime", I thought: It would be nice to be able to create an atmosphere with a lot of information for 5 minutes (laughs). There are also "Nose Hair Real Fist" or "The Daily Life of a Male High School Student" and the like......

Plus, I love Test Summoned Beasts! Because the anime was so interesting, I also read the original light novel later. I realized that the voice actors really put a lot of effort into it, and I was deeply moved. First of all, the voice matches the character very well, and according to the speaking skills of the voice actors, the funny rhythm of the work can be further sublimated. It should be said that this is the result of the continuous accumulation of acting skills and experience. There is also a pseudo-girl named Hideyoshi in the work, and maybe I was also affected when I played Ji Jun (laughs).

Q: Speaking of funny, it seems that you have some experience in this area as well. Be sure to tell us more!

Kuwabara: When I was in high school, there used to be a funny contest that anyone could sign up for. Then I said to my friend, "Go and do some lip-synching!" Then I signed up (laughs). At that time, the joke that came to mind for the two of us was the theme of "girls who can't fall in love". Since both of us went to girls' school for six years, we were not good at dealing with the opposite sex, and we didn't speak very fluently. So I spoofed this character. That's basically how I felt when I was in girls' school, and I was very happy (laughs). In addition, I joined the tea ceremony club, and in the past six years, I feel that I have worked hard to get a license.

Q: So are you still watching funny shows?

Kuwabara: If I have time, I'll go to a comedy contest! Recently, I've been working on a notebook that collects the signatures of funny artists. Then the ramen shops that the artists frequented became my target (laughs). There are only about 10 signatures now, but Mr. Tsukushi-norio, the author of "Engaging in Hime Daily", is among them (laughs). I was like, "I'd be happy if you could draw something for me!" "As a result, the teacher drew a very high-quality work for me! This also makes the journal shine brightly (laughs)

Q: What else do you want to challenge as a voice actor in the future?

Kuwabara: The object of my admiration is Ms. Miyuki Sawasaki. From small girls to non-human creatures, she can perform vividly. For example, comparing the labra sauce in "Jewel Pet" with the voice of Fujiko Feng together, it makes people feel so powerful! The first time I heard it, I couldn't imagine that it was Ms. Sawajo's voice, but when I learned the truth, I was shocked.

Q: Finally, would you like to say a few words to the readers who read this interview?

Kuwabara: "Engaging in the Daily Life of Hime" was my first work in which I played the lead role, and it was also the first time I played the role of a pseudo-girl, so I was very nervous. However, I still managed to create an interesting work, and I hope to challenge various types of characters in the future! Just as I get motivated by animation, if my acting skills can make others feel energetic, cry and laugh, then there's nothing more enjoyable than that. I want to take on the challenge of various things, so please support me!
