However, for some reason, Tanaka's personality has changed a lot from before......

This work has been released in 12 volumes and has sold more than 9.3 million copies. The live-action version of the movie is directed by Takahiro Miki, and the starring lineup led by Tsubasa Honda & Masada Higashiide also shows the audience a love story full of youthful atmosphere.

But what exactly would the original author think of the live-action version? Recently, some Japanese media conducted an exclusive interview with the author Sakisaka Io, from the author's mouth to understand the feelings of the original work and the charm of the live-action version.

β– It doesn't matter if you make a mistake. With such a mood, enjoy your youth!

Q: How did you feel when you decided to make a live-action movie?

Sakisaka: Since this is the first time my work has been made into a film, there are some things that I don't quite understand, and there are naturally uneasy feelings in it. But overall it's very happy. And if people who weren't interested in my work before, or who don't know me, can get in touch with my work through guΓ², then it's a good opportunity. And as a writer, that's the most gratifying thing.

I'm a person.,I can't express that three-dimensional sense when I draw comics.,How can I achieve a three-dimensional effect? I'm afraid the movie will respond to me. Therefore, the excitement of the emotion still occupies the dominant position.

Q: In the movie, Futaba is played by Tsubasa Honda, and Mabuchi is played by Masada Toide. What do you think of such casting? I feel that the characters they created are still slightly different from the prototypes in the comics.

Sakisaka: I've always liked Tsubasa a lot, and it's not just because of her interests, but she also shows a very cute side in the movie. No matter what the expression, no matter what angle, no matter how you look at it, it's really cute! And the Futaba played by Tsubasa is more energetic than the Futaba in the original work. That's great.

As for Mr. Toide, I've seen him on the screen many times before, and I think this is a great person to make movies. I'm afraid he wouldn't think so, but I think his unconscious expression will seem a little lonely. And this point is very realistic, and I seem to see that the characters have really come to reality, which is very moving.

Q: In other words, he plays a slightly cooler character than the original?

Sakisaka: He has a kind of unreal feeling, and he is a little lonely, and he has a very masculine atmosphere.

Q: What do you think of the other actors?

Sakisaka: Throughout the development of the plot, whenever the story becomes heavy, Yaya Kominato, played by Mr. Yoshizawa Ryo Yoshizawa, can express the essence of the story very well. And because of his ubiquity, it also makes the work somewhat reveal some lightheartedness.

There is also Yui Cheng Hai played by Miss Mitsuki Takahata. A conversation between Yui and Futaba...... No, it should be said that Futaba was suddenly beaten by her, and the plot is very scary. This kind of acting is impressive, and seeing her performance, I can only bow to the ground and say, "What you said is right!" In that case, (laughs).

Q: It's true that the plot wasn't "scareless", but "scared and shivered" (laughs).

Sakisaka: I also wanted to create that atmosphere in the original work, and her performance perfectly exemplifies that.

Q: Please tell us about the scenes in the movie that you find impressive.

Sakisaka: There are a lot of these, for example, at the beginning of the movie, Futaba is running under the cherry blossoms. And just as the train door was about to close, she was knocked down by the door.

As for the plot of Futaba and Hisa, it's an "accidental kiss" at the cultural festival. From the occurrence of the whispered and accidental kissing, I enjoyed the whole process very much. Anyway, it's great.

Q: Futaba's all-out run also appears in the second half of the film, and I feel that her desperate appearance is very emphasized in the work.

Sakisaka: Because Tsubasa ran too hard, it seems that three of his shoes were broken. I couldn't help but sigh: how hard this is! (laughs)

Q: Which character do you think resonates with you the most in "Journey of Youth"?

Sakisaka: Every child is a character born from my heart, so I understand everyone's feelings. So I think all the characters resonate.

Q: In the appendix of the first volume of the original work, Mr. Sakizaka once wrote, "I don't know all the characters myself, but I let the characters experience various things in the work and enjoy their choices and changes...... so you thought about it while creating?

Sakisaka: Because the characters are "a piece of flesh on me", I think I should understand every detail of them, but because I need to add new elements to them and make them change, there will be a state of "I understand this part, but I don't understand that part at all". In this sense, it is the hardest.

Actually, I don't fully understand myself, but once my true self is revealed, I may also expose some self-loathing, which is also scary (laughs). Even if I have the answer ready, there may be a situation where the idea is different from what I expected due to the different character settings. It's fun, but it's also nerve-wracking.

Q: You've already portrayed a variety of love stories, so what is the fun of creating love manga for Mr. Sakisaka?

Love: If you create a love story, then everyone will also start a discussion: "I understand! "That's how you have to be when you're in love!" And I hope to be able to tell such a love story to readers and stimulate their discussion. I hope that everyone will feel the same way, "It is."

It's not to force people to experience this sweet story, but I might want to resonate with everyone, feel "this is love" together, and then have a lively discussion.

Q: Speaking of youth, what was Sakisaka-sensei's youth like? Can you tell us about your memories of that time?

Sakisaka: It's fun to hang out with friends and come back, and the cultural festival is also very interesting. Although it is no longer possible, every time two people ride a bicycle, they feel for a moment: "Ah, now I'm enjoying my youth". But I can't do that now.

Q: When you create your work, do you also open up your memories of the past little by little?

Sakisaka: Yes. I use my own experiences and the stories of my friends into my work. However, the act of reading comics often carries the feelings of "escapism" and "pursuit of beautiful dreams", so at this time, it is not possible to portray realistically, but to add elements that conform to the comics.

Therefore, the plot of Futaba's dialogue with his classmates at the beginning of the story made me very difficult.,It's a little scary to say it's too realistic.。 However, even if it is realistic, there will be a redemptive side and a gorgeous side, and you need to care about how to maintain a balance for this.

Q: The title of "Journey of Youth" ("γ‚’γ‚ͺハラむド") contains the two meanings of "γ‚’γ‚ͺハル (youth) + ラむド (cycling)", so do you also want to face today's young people and express "Harness youth!" "What about the wishes?

Sakizaka: I hate "whining about something if you don't do anything", so I want to tell my readers, "Anyway, let's do it first!" Some people may say, "But it's easy to get hurt like this?" and "Isn't it natural to be afraid of getting hurt?" "But when you become mature, you will forget about your failures." Harness youth! "It's not just about love, it makes sense in any situation. If you can use this movie as a backer, you can produce "Let's think of it as creating a black history, and keep moving forward!" Then I will be very happy.

Q: Thank you for your time today!
