Idol Park Lumi! Interview with rookie voice actor Haruka Yamazaki
Every year, a large number of newcomers emerge in the Japanese voice actor industry, and for this reason, the Japanese media specially produced a program called "New Voice Actor Illustrated Guide". The show interviews and reports on some of the most promising rookie voice actors, to understand the behind-the-scenes stories of their entry into the industry, and their prospects for the future. In the latest issue of the "Newcomer Voice Actor Guide", we will introduce the one who has appeared in "Whirlwind Butler! Haruka Yamazaki has an outstanding performance in works such as CAN'TTAKEMYEYESOFFYOU (Mizunenji Lujia), "Everyday Ability" (Kanzaki Lantern), and 2015's new "Absolute Double Blade" (Lilith Bristol).
Q: Ms. Yamazaki has been starring in "Everyday Battles" since October this year, and she has been dubbing Kanzaki Mitsuyo in the film. So what kind of character is this?
Yamazaki: Speaking of Lampyo-chan, she belongs to the character who constantly complains about the protagonist who faces the second disease. Always say on the side, "Secondary 2 has worked hard!" "I'm complaining (laughs). But if you read the original work, I'm afraid everyone will find out: In fact, Tsutoyo-chan himself is a patient with the second disease (laughs). She always likes to hide and shout middle two words. Also, her biggest charm is tsundere. This kind of tsundere character, who often performs a lot of shameful expressions, always makes me feel very cute.
Q: What was the atmosphere like at the recording site?
Yamazaki: Compared to other anime, there are relatively few voice actors in this film, so we all have a good relationship with each other. As soon as someone brings up a topic, everyone gets together to discuss it (laughs). When we were testing the voice acting, the lines were so funny that we couldn't help but laugh out loud sometimes.
Q: So did Miss Yamazaki herself suffer from the same secondary school disease as Dendai-chan......?
Yamazaki: I have a good impression of secondary disease, and I really like to talk to those who have secondary disease. But am I a secondary school patient...... I don't think I'm particularly aware of it. I just love to look at other people's middle two tables (laughs).
Q: If Ms. Yamazaki was able to possess Tonyo-chan's time standstill ability, "Eternity", how would you use it......?
Yamazaki: I guess I'll make this ability a part of my daily life, just like Denshiro-chan. Something like, "Ah, I can't keep up with my schedule!" "I mispronounced the line just now!" In this case, it is perfect for use (laughs). Also, if I could be reincarnated, then I would like to be a Disney character! If I hadn't become a voice actor...... My biggest wish is to become an actor in an entertainment project. If you can work at a playground, you can do whatever you do (laughs).
Q: So, would you like to tell us about the highlights of "Everyday Ability Battles"?
Yamazaki: Even if you may miss one or two episodes, it still won't have a big impact on the understanding of the subsequent plot. It's a lot of fun to watch from anywhere! Although this is not an anime that ends in 1 episode, each episode is a relatively complete story. And each story is very interesting, and it is a great funny work!
Q: So, let's talk about other works. Miss Yamazaki also played the role of Kasuga Miri-chan in "Idol Master", so what type of girl is this?
Yamazaki: If you can describe it in one sentence, Mirai-chan is a character who is "silly to cute" (laughs). She is very frank and can form a good relationship with anyone. She can talk to 49 other people, never antagonizes anyone, and maintains a good friendship. She can chat with everyone cheerfully, so she is always in the center of attention. And she never lets other companions and agents see her weaknesses, and always likes to keep an innocent smile.
Q: Ms. Yamazaki herself has worked as a producer! So will this be reflected in the characters?
Yamazaki: I think it will help with the concert. I've seen a lot of concerts myself. Listen to the senior voice actors shouting "Hey! Hey! I felt that my feelings were also mobilized. I want to be like my predecessors and be a person who makes the audience happy. I don't know if it's bad luck, but I'll sit in the back row and watch the concert. Because of this experience, I also want to be able to show my performance in all parts of the venue when I perform.
Q: So, what kind of voice actress does Ms. Yamazaki want to be in the future?
Yamazaki: I wish I could voice boys...... I've played similar roles on radio dramas and anime, but if I can voice a major shonen character, I'm very happy. And the voice actors I dream of are often the type of voice dubbing teenagers, so it would be nice if I could stand in that position one day.
Q: By the way, who is your dream voice actor?
Yamazaki: When I first learned about being a voice actor, I had a lot of hope for Ms. Park Lumi. She starred as Edward in Fullmetal Alchemist. I think that no matter how old you get, you can always voice a teenager, which is very powerful in itself. If I can improve further and further as I gain experience, will I be able to do this role one day? In addition, things like Ms. Yufuko Miyako and Ms. Yoshiori Nazuka were all triggers that made me want to become a voice actor. At that time, the two of them starred in the work "Alien BB Hitting the Earth" as middle school students. When I found out, I thought, "I'm going to be a voice actor too!" It's time to start learning early! ”
When it comes to my future goals, I hope to play roles that don't match my image. For example, after I was in my 30s, I was able to voice girls, and even though I wasn't very sexy, I was able to voice sexy characters, and animals (laughs). These are all goals for the future, but I hope to hear people say, "Let Haruka Yamazaki play this role."
Q: Finally, would you like to say a few words to the readers who read this interview?
Yamazaki: Thank you all for reading until the end! I'm still a very, very useless person, and you might wonder, "Who is this guy?" "But I hope to continue to work hard in the future, and I would be happy if people could record my image somewhere in their brains. Please advise!
Q: Thank you, Ms. Yamazaki, for accepting our interview today!
