Marnie voice actor testimonial: A continuation of Ghibli's dream
Studio Ghibli's latest work, Marnie in Memories, is now complete. Recently, we held a thank-you event. At the event, the main voice actors and other personnel of this work were present to interact with everyone.
The voice actor who serves as the heroine of this work, Marnie, is Jun Arimura. She was thrilled to be able to work on Studio Ghibli's work as a voice actress: "It's like a dream. "It's clear that it's not just the audience who feels that this work is different, but also the voice actors. At the same time, she also expressed her gratitude to her partner in the film, Takatsuki Cailiang, who stood out from the audition of more than 300 people. The latter voices another heroine, Anna, in the film. When talking about this work, she also interpreted it with such a high evaluation as "the glory of a lifetime", and her joy was overflowing.
The original work of this work is British children's literature, which is loved by many readers. However, the anime moved the stage to Japan, and in the story, Anna, who came to the seaside village to recuperate, met Marnie. Marnie is an incredible maiden who lives deep in the wetlands. And through her encounter with Marnie, Anna has also changed little by little.
The two main voice actors are now 21 years old (Arimura) and the other is just 16 years old (Takatsuki). Of course, they have long had the shadow of Ghibli's works in their lives, and they can be called a generation that grew up with Ghibli's works. Among them, the year when the village was born, "Porco Rosso" was only released not long ago; And when Gao Yue was born, it happened to be the year when "Princess Mononoke" was released.
When asked about his favorite Ghibli work at the event, Takatsuki proposed the name of "Spirited Away": "This is the first Ghibli work I watched. At that time, I was young, and I didn't like watching movies very much, and as long as I watched them, I would feel bored immediately (wry smile). But only "Spirited Away" can make me watch it for more than 2 hours without feeling bored, and the work has given me a very big impact. When the movie ended, I was like, 'What's going on?' Time is running out...... 'This is a work that allows people to enter the world of dreams.' I love Hisaishi's music so much that I feel like I've been transported to a magical place with his music. ”
On the other hand, Arimura said that when he watched "My Neighbor Totoro" for the first time, that scene is still unforgettable.
"Impact. The first time I watched this work, I was in kindergarten, and the anime gave me a very big dream. Ghibli's works, no matter which one I watched, I couldn't find a character that I hated. In particular, the heroines are full of energy, and the other female characters are also stylish and attractive. ”
Soon, the opportunity to be involved in Ghibli's work came. Both Takatsuki and Arimamura auditioned for voice actors, and won roles in the play with their persuasive performances. When talking about her feelings, Gao Yue replied: "When I first heard that there was this audition, I immediately called out 'wow'. I had a chance to audition for Ghibli! However, I was very happy when I heard the news at first, but I thought that there might not be a second chance like this, so I also thought, 'I definitely want to win the role!' 'The thoughts?' When it was confirmed that I would be playing, I was overjoyed (laughs). And the news of the qualification was not through the office, but directly to me. This is the first time I've had this experience. It's like a dream. ”
At the same time, Arimura was equally emotional: "Actually, when I first debuted as a voice actor, I auditioned for a Ghibli work. But at that time, I was very unsuccessful. So, when I was faced with this opportunity, I thought, 'This time it has to be successful!' But I didn't have too much psychological pressure because of this, and I just behaved the way I wanted. And on the first day of audition, I was at the top of my grades. At the time, I thought, 'This is the first time I've won such a place on audition day,...... but I didn't really expect to be selected, and I was shocked when I got the news. ”
In addition, the character of the faceless man appeared in "Spirited Away", which Gao Yue liked very much. In fact, the prototype of this character comes from the director of "Marnie in Memories" Hiromasa Yonebayashi. In this regard, Gao Yue also said when talking about her impression of the director: "I didn't know about Lu Dao when I was recording, and I didn't notice it until recently. But the director really looks like a character from a Ghibli work. It feels like a forest fairy wearing a green hat and riding a bicycle. ”
When director Yonebayashi first heard from producer Toshio Suzuki that he was going to animate this work, he thought it was "difficult". As for the reason, there are a lot of first-person dialogues and psychological descriptions of the heroine Anna in the original work, and it is not easy to express through animation. And in the animation, Gao Yue has to show Anna's mood in the lines that are not very many. She thinks, "Anna closes her heart and doesn't deal with anyone, but she's actually the type who can't express her feelings to other people. It's just through her encounter with Marnie that she grows. I think I'm more impressed by the feeling of having Marnie by my side than the experience I gained. From the second day of the recording, Miss Arimura came over, and after seeing her, I felt relaxed and happy. I also met Marnie with Anna, and I felt liberated. ”
Arimura agrees, "The relationship between Anna and Marnie is more important than anything else, and that's what I pay attention to when I perform. And when the truth is revealed after the work is revealed, what kind of mood does Marnie have to accept Anna? While I realized that she was an ordinary girl, I also had to pay attention to the background she had and dub it. ”
At the same time, Gao Yue also felt resonance from the heroine. After all, they are both teenage girls, and they also have similar troubles and entanglements. Commenting on what she has learned from her work, she says, "I can't fully express my feelings to others, and I'm very similar to Anna in that regard. Because I'm shy, I can't say 'Xie Lu Xie' frankly, and I don't do things very brightly, these are exactly the same as Anna. In the same way that Anna took the first step bravely after meeting Marnie, I gained the confidence and courage to 'take a step too' from the two of them. ”
When talking about what he has in common with Marnie, Arimura said, "In order not to let others notice my weaknesses, I don't discuss my troubles with others, and I mostly solve them myself." It's very similar to Marnie. Through this work, I once again felt that it is the people themselves who can release their troubles and pains. Even if one person is troubled there, there is a limit. Marnie and Anna taught me a lot. ”
