Haratoshi Fukui, the original "Gundam UC", talks about robot animation
When it comes to Harumoshi Fukui, I believe many anime fans will not be unfamiliar. Based on his original work, Mobile Suit Gundam UC is arguably one of the most popular Gundam series. At the same time, producer Naohiro Kogata planned and participated in the creation of "Mobile Suit Gundam UC" that year, and is currently one of the planners of "Gundam G Restoration Movement". So when these two veteran animation experts get together, what exactly will be discussed? Recently, the two attended a symposium event, where they talked about their works and the future of animation for us. Let's take a look at the general dynamics of this symposium!
Fukui: Then let me ask Mr. Kogata a a question. Mr. Kogata is still involved in the production of the animation of the machine, but I have a question: Is the animation of the machine qì person dead? (Single-edged straight in)
SUNRISE's performance has been on the rise recently, so it's distressing for you to say that. Besides, we now have the support of "adults who love life...... This and the animation of the machine qì people constitute two pillars. But then again, has Mr. Fukui ever watched "G Restoration Movement"?
Fukui: I didn't see it. After all, the Lady said that those of us who grew up with Gundam are no longer suitable for that.
Xiaoxing: That old man is a complete tsundere, right?
Fukui: Hey, can I read it? Then I'll borrow the plates.
The '90s came to an end in the massive popularity of Neon Genesis Evangelion. JUDGING FROM THE CHRONOLOGY, '97'S "NEXT WARRIORS EHRGEIZ" SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED A MASTERPIECE, BUT IT'S STILL A PITY COMPARED TO EVA. But if this work were placed in this century, it would definitely be a classic. After all, in the first decade of the new century, except for SEED hanging the Gundam brand and walking infrared, other works of the machine qì people hardly caused any topic.
Kogata: The 2010 masterpiece was Gundam UC.
Fukui: Hey, didn't it happen even earlier?
Kogata: Although it has decreased for a while, the number of animation has increased since 2013.
Fukui: I think it's because of the success of Gundam UC, and the industry has rediscovered that "in fact, there are still some tricks in anime", isn't that true?
Kogaku: Actually, the animation is increasing at a frightening rate.
Fukui: Is the production of zuò in progress?
Kogata: This year's autumn season has been called "the worst period", but when you really look into it, you find that no company is actually in crisis.
Kogsha: Oh, there's a model shop here, but I'd like to ask, which is better, G-SELF or HGBF Gundam?
Uncle of the model shop: I think it's HGBF.
Small: Ahhh...... (Hanging head)
Moderator: Before the symposium began, we conducted a questionnaire on "what is the most important aspect of the heroine", and from the results, a considerable number of people chose "breasts".
Xiaoxing: Actually, the same is true of "G Restoration Movement", the heroine's initial character was poor, but in the end it was amplified. This is what Mr. コヤマシゲト did. Anyway, late one night, Director Tomino yelled at the staff, "Die!! ”
Fukui: This is a time when people are always complaining about their professional ethics. In the 70s, the animation of the machine qì actually contains people's vision of a corporate society. People tend to think that kind of animation is good today, but it's not. At present, there is no longer the momentum of high economic development in the past, and the number of children is definitely decreasing. We can't go back to the past. It's not okay not to cater to the times. For those in their early 40s, the Gundam of the past is actually the "Yokai Watch" it is today. No one was unfamiliar with such works, and at that time there was no concept that "only otaku people can understand". Rather, it would have been strange if anyone didn't know about Gundam at the time. If it had been with the idea of "commercial activities for otaku", then the Gundam industry would not have existed back then.
As a result, people in their early 40s think that Gundam is a well-known common sense; Today's young people think that Gundam is a unique product of otaku. There is also a deviation in consciousness.
Kogata: If Gundam is the current "Yokai Watch", will we see the "Groundbound Cat Restoration Movement" in 20 years......?
Fukui: After actually watching Yokai Watch, I found it very interesting. So in 20 years, it should arouse nostalgia. Uncle Tomino once said, "Leave room for imagination", and this work embodies exactly what he thinks.
Kogaku: I was talking about "Char and Lala who counterattacked" back then, and my mother couldn't understand what I was talking about.
Q: So what do you think is the best one among the two of you who have watched the animation before?
Small: "Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack".
Fukui: "The Legend of the Giant God Idian".
Q: Could you please tell us about Director Tomino's touching anecdote?
Kogata: He once commented on "Marnie in Memories" by saying, "The two men of Ghibli are depicting the past, and I am describing the future." ”
Fukui: I don't think I'm impressed, but what surprised me the most was that he kicked me away. That was when Inverted A Gundam was novelized.
Kogaku: All of a sudden, I moved my feet.
Fukui: But the old man is really serious.
Q: I have a question for Mr. Fukui. What is the difference between the real-world story of World War II and the story of the universe in the sky?
Fukui: In terms of methodology, it's exactly the same. Although the true story needs to be investigated little by little according to the rhythm of historical sources, the same is true of the cosmic century. Although I feel familiar with this knowledge, over the past 20 years, the relevant materials have also increased.
Kogaku: "G Restoration Movement" is currently being broadcast in a good manner, so please be sure to check it out. At present, I can only understand some superficial plots, but the plot will slowly become clearer. Since it is a story created by an old man, please bear with some old-fashioned places. I hope the audience can feel the attitude of 73-year-old Tomino.
Fukui: Just as a reference, if we want to continue to make a new series of Mobile Suit Gundam UC, do you think it will be a work with a new character, or a work that will continue to make the characters from the previous game? (Slightly more preferable to the former)
