In this interview, we will learn about Daisuke Ono's outlook on life because of JOJO, his state of mind when he learned that he was going to voice Jotaro Kujo, and his thoughts on the character.

■For me, this work has all the elements I need for my life.

Q: First of all, when did you get involved with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure?

Ono: I remember my first encounter with this work when I was an elementary school student. At that time, it happened to be serialized to the third part. After that, I read the works again after I went to university in Tokyo. It should have been serialized to the fifth part. Because I'm in college, I have plenty of time. Then I was so obsessed with this work that I couldn't extricate myself, so I bought the whole set with my own meager money (laughs). While I was living my college life, I thought, "For me, this is a work that has all the elements I need in my life." So I read it many times.

Q: I first came across work when I was in elementary school, and I think I had a gap with JOJO before you went to university.

Ono: When I was in elementary school and junior high school, I thought it was a "wonderful" work that incorporated elements of science fiction and horror. And in the JUMP comics, JOJO also seems too young and old, so he is not fascinated. When I entered college, my life changed subtly, I began to question what I was doing, I got lost in my life, and I encountered a lot of setbacks. It can be said that with the accumulation of life experience, the experience and resonance gained from JOJO have become more and more. That's when I finally realized, could it be that I actually missed a book that is too wonderful to say?

Q: So, did Mr. Ono encounter a turning point in his life at that time?

Ono: I don't think there are many people in junior high school or high school who can make up their minds to embark on the path of the future, right? I just decided to learn a little about media after I went to university and work in the media industry in the future.

Q: You were admitted to the Faculty of Fine Arts at Nihon University.

Ono: That's right. But when I got to university, I realized that I wasn't good at dealing with other people. "I studied in the Department of Media and Television Production, but if I wanted to produce a TV production, I had to interact with a large number of staff, and when I was involved in production planning and performances, I had to deal with a lot of people and give them instructions. In other words, I need to be interested in making things and convey what I want to express to others. But in fact, I couldn't do that at all. I didn't study TV production at all, and I only entered the media broadcasting department because I was interested, so I was frustrated. Because of the TV side, I started to get involved in radio production. In the case of broadcasting, you only need two people to create a program. I'm so passionate about subculture elements like manga and anime that I thought, "Let's make this my job." "When I came into contact with JOJO again, it was probably that time. For example, in the third part, there is a battle of "Wheel of Fate". Among them, I saw the line "The 'road' is carved out by oneself". At that time, the whole person was impressed.

Q: Is it the line that hits the center room?

Ono: Actually, the friends I made at that time are still in touch to this day. And at the work site, I also met some of them. Some of them are animators, and some of their friends are writing works. For me, these people are both good friends and close comrades-in-arms. When I was in college and I was confused about my future, it was because I met JOJO that I was able to make a change and get to know them.

Q: In other words, it is because of JOJO's guidance that Mr. Ono and your friends are what they are today.

Ono: Most of the people around me who continue to deal with me as "good friends" are fans of JOJO (laughs). It felt like I was frustrated with people that I began to see JOJO as a compass in my life.

Q: I believe that Mr. Ono's achievements so far are obvious to all. And if you think that characters like you regard JOJO as the compass of their lives, the work naturally needs no more praise. Since you love JOJO so much, can you tell us how you feel when you can voice the main character of the work?

Ono: I think the third one is a very symbolic work that represents the JOJO series. The third part is also the most well-known among most JOJO fans, so I was nervous at first to play the role of the protagonist Jotaro Kujo, and then I was even more nervous...... In short, the whole person is full of pressure.

■Don't be too cold

Q: Mr. Ono had already voiced Jotaro Kujo in the PS3 fighting game "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Stars", but this time you were auditioned and finally decided to be the voice candidate?

Ono: The anime version of JOJO is not the same as "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Stars", so I had to audition for the anime again. This is really an audition from scratch.

Q: After you auditioned, you learned that you would play Jotaro Kujo again after "JOJO's Bizarre Adventure All-Stars"?

Ono: When I received the notice, I was ready to come to my senses. When I was dubbing "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Stars" before, I felt a lot of pressure. When I came to the anime dubbing scene, I realized that this was really an anime work that made people's "JOJO love" completely explode. And the third part of the TV anime is also a continuation of the "soul" of the first and second parts. I talked to the voice actors and staff who appeared in the first and second films, and instilled in my soul the spirit I learned and inherited from them, and then I started my own performance.

Q: The spirit of the first and second parts of the TV anime has been carried over to the third part.

Ono: That's right. It can be said that this just named the word "Cheng" of Jotaro. I realized in my heart that I had to "inherit" the spirit of JOJO in order to do so.

Q: What kind of style did you use when dubbing Jotaro's character?

Ono: Jotaro is a character with both calm and enthusiastic personalities. He can make two completely opposite personalities coexist in a fairly high realm. At first, I was stressed about how to coexist with these two personalities. So maybe I'm trying to accomplish this through my own voice acting skills. Then, I now think that when it comes to dubbing, "you can't be too cold!" Therefore, Jotaro in this animation may let everyone see a look of enthusiasm to the point of boiling. Jotaro looks very cold on the outside, but I think he's essentially a hot-blooded man.

In the previous interview, we learned about the feelings of Jotaro Kujo and Daisuke Ono, the protagonist of "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Fighter", and how he felt when he accepted this role. It can be seen that this popular male voice actor on the front line has been changed by the JOJO series, and it also reflects the profound connotation of the work. ■ From the dubbing test to the most**. The enthusiasm never faded.

Q: I've heard that the dubbing of this work is very hard. It started early in the morning, right?

Ono: It really started early in the morning (laughs).

Q: Do you start your voice acting work with 100% enthusiasm from the morning?

Ono: That's right. The day before the dubbing, I had to completely abstain myself from drinking. Recently, for the sake of "JOJO", I have completely quit drinking. In short, in order to be able to bring out the sound to the fullest extent, I had to achieve this thorough state.

Q: You've shown us amazing acting skills.

Ono: That's the case with all voice actors. The voice actors have had no idea of controlling the volume at all from the beginning of the dubbing test. Everyone works with a real gun mentality. And I am ready to realize: I must not have the intention of giving up halfway.

Q: How did Mr. Miwa Iwanami, who is the sound supervisor, guide you in the dubbing?

Ono: Let's be motivated! He gave us from the beginning: "If you feel lost, please read the original!" "If you're feeling confused, let go of your voice and shout!" Suggestions like that (laughs). And he has always used the most appropriate words to guide the voice actors. As a result, during the recording process, we must not let the enthusiasm in our hearts cool down. So from the dubbing test to the most **, we are all going all.

Q: Is it the most ** from the dubbing test?

Ono: Of course, Iwanami sometimes tells us, "This place, I want you to behave like this." In short, not only should not reduce the enthusiasm, but also gradually "heat up" in the work, and complete the dubbing before the enthusiasm subsides. Mr. Iwanami's advice is very timely. Because of the "rotational speed" at which he works, we were able to release the accumulated heat very easily in the dubbing. And while our enthusiasm has not subsided, he will also immediately provide all kinds of guidance to make the dubbing go smoothly. Our trust in him is no joke.

Q: It's really an amazing dubbing scene.

Ono: His guidance is not only about the big picture, but also on the details. For example, the pause in some lines will be deliberately emphasized by him. There is also a "ah" written in large font in the lines, which should also be expressed by us in a louder volume. In short, it is specific to every detail. Of course, we were always laughing at the dubbing, so it was a great environment to work in.

■The voice actors have souls similar to those of the characters

Q: The voice actors used in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3 Stardust Fighter can be said to have been brought together because they have a chemistry with each other.

Ono: That's right. The voice actors are perfectly synchronized with the characters, or they have a "soul" similar to the characters. In this way, I think I can integrate myself into the character. Kenta Miyake is very enthusiastic, and his enthusiasm is too much (laughs). And Mr. Ishizuka Yunsheng said "I don't want to shout at the top of my voice" while making a louder voice than anyone else when he dubbed (laughs). This dubbing scene completely drew my attention. It has a very good feeling of Joseph (JOJO). In addition, I have recently begun to think that Mr. Daisuke Hirakawa and Mr. Shifa Komatsu are really very similar people.

■"Oh La" is still evolving to this day

Q: Speaking of this work, Jotaro Kujo's famous "Oh La Oh" (オラオラ) is also a highlight. I believe that this line will be used on more occasions in the future, so did Mr. Ono secretly practice it?

Ono: I've been honing the line "oh la" over and over again. Now I hope that it will continue to evolve. In the first few episodes, it didn't take a long time to activate "Oooo I'm gradually making this sentence more meaningful and prolonged, and as the number of episodes increases, I hope to be able to interpret it to a higher level.

Q: That's really exciting.

Ono: At first glance, Jotaro seems to be a mature character, but in fact he is just a high school student. During his travels, he also realized his challenge by changing the STAND. In fact, when I was chatting with Mr. Taketo Ziyasu, I said that the line "oh la, oh la" is very difficult to express, especially the sense of heaviness and speed of the words is not easy to coexist. At that time, the other party suggested that you just need to use your own methods to interpret it. And I am very happy with his suggestion. In this way, the performance work is full of fun. Well, of course, there are some things that I don't feel reluctant, after all, the one who gave the advice was an abominable opponent (DIO) (laughs).

Q: In other words, I received advice from the enemy (laughs).

Ono: If you watch the second episode of the anime, you should be able to see that the lines in the play are not "oh la, oh oh", but "oh lala, oh la!" "I only realized this when I was working on voice acting. It turns out that this trick still has such a pattern. The scariest thing that happens to us when we're on a show is getting stuck in "everyday mode". The so-called daily pattern refers to the loss of enthusiasm because of the same content. Therefore, when I noticed the difference in the lines, I suddenly felt the passion to shout the most favorable "oh la, oh la".
