Ten years of wind and frost! Full behind-the-scenes interview with FSN
It's been a decade since the Fate/staynight series came out in 2004. In this fleeting decade, the FATE series has accompanied everyone through ups and downs. Some people may think that there are good works every year, and FATE is just one of them. But no matter how good the work is, it needs to be tested by one ultimate test - time. There are only a handful of monsters that can stand the test of time for up to ten years, even in the current industry, and yes, the FATE series is one of them. This time, the well-known animation magazine NewType will take us behind the scenes of the ufotable version of the animation "Fate/staynight", which was born on the occasion of this 10th anniversary, and appreciate the spirit of the production of zuò!
【Voice Actor Interview】
Rin Tosaka - Kana Ueda
Introduction:うえだ?かな / Birthday is June 9th.,Born in Osaka Prefecture.。 I'mEnterprise. She appeared as a guest at the preview screening in Osaka.
Archer service - Suwa Department Shunichi
Introduction:すわべ?じゅんいち / Birthday is March 29th.,Born in Tokyo.。 It is affiliated with the Tokyo Haiyu Life Cooperative Office. At the "FateProject Update" held in July, it was announced that the ufotable version of "Fate/staynight" will be broadcast on Angel's Day (October 4).
■ Rin and Archer that can only be presented to the audience now
- "UnlimitedBladeWorks" became a topic of conversation immediately after it was announced.
Kana Ueda: I am very happy that the response from everyone at the presentation was overwhelming.
Junichi Suwabe: After "Fate/Zero", "Fate/staynight", the origin of the entire FATE series, has finally been animated again. And I also chose the "UnlimitedBladeWorks" route with the most highlights, which really can't be praised. Kana Ueda: Actually, I'm a little lost...... It's been less than five years since the 2010 theatrical anime "Fate/staynightUnlimitedBladeWorks", and at that time I had already given you the best "Rin Tosaka" table in my heart, but I didn't expect that I would be challenging this role again in the near future, and would I be able to surpass the previous "Rin Tosaka"? I felt very uneasy. However, when the short teaser PV at the presentation was released, and when Rin said, "Father, my Holy Grail War is about to begin", I instantly understood the meaning of Ichiē! It was a "voice" that I couldn't make five years ago, and yes, time baptized me, and I once again felt the experience of dubbing "Rin Tosaka".
Junichi Suwabe: I'm glad to be able to take a closer look at the role of "Archer" again. We've known each other for a long time, but lately I've been voicing funny characters (laughs), so I'd like to take this opportunity to pass on Archer's character charm to you again.
Kana Ueda: All of a sudden, I went back to my original relationship, and it felt very fresh.
INTERVIEWER Do you feel like "I'm back" now?
Kana Ueda: Not at all. In the past, FSN started with Shirou Emiya, but this time it started with Rin's point of view. There is indeed such a version in the game, but I didn't expect the details of Rin and Archer's encounter to be depicted in such detail in this anime.
Junichi Suwabe: When I first got the script for episode 00, I was shocked to find that Shirou and Sabre didn't have lines. Then in the script, all the elements of the original work that have not been depicted in the anime so far are shown to the audience, and it is a story that is obviously read, but it gives people a fresh feeling.
Kana Ueda: That's right! It's more fulfilling than any of the works that have been visualized so far. Although all the previous works have done their best, this UFO version of FSN has stepped on a new level in terms of quality and length......
Junichi Suwabe: Personally, this is not a "remaster" of a past work, but a completely "new work". Therefore, the statement "I'm back" is not true. This is a work that visualizes the original work of "Fate/staynight" using the technology and sensations of the current era. As one of the voice actors, I will use my life's abilities to the role I play, and I hope to pour my soul into the role of Archer. The Archer of the past will no longer exist zài, and a qiē will start from scratch.
Kana Ueda: When I was dubbing Rin on the recording of episode 00, I was pointed out by the sound supervisor that she was "too much like a magician". So it sees, Rin at the beginning was still not mature in terms of technology and consciousness, and he needed to express this worrying sense of youthfulness. It was a completely unexperienced experience for me, a real new beginning.
Junichi Suwabe: I really hope that more people will learn about the origin of the FATE series. As the foundation of all the works in the series, as long as you watch "Fate/staynight", you can enjoy more related works. The protagonist is a high school student, and it should be fun for the audience at the teenage level.
- Finally, I would like to ask you to say a message to the audience.
Kana Ueda: I've been spending less time with Archer lately, and as Rin, I feel that Archer is not enough (laughs). But now it's different, and I want to say to the world, "This is my Servant!" ”。 So please take care of us until the end.
Junichi Suwabe: Please cheer for our red group (laughs)!
【Supervisory Interview】
Superintendent – Takahiro Miura
Synopsis:みうら?たかひろ/Supervisor、Animation performer,Born in Saitama Prefecture。 He has served as the supervisor of the theatrical version of "The Empty Realm Chapter 6 Forgetting Recording", "Campus Utopia Xuemei Rushes Forward! Key Animators, Performances and Painting Supervisors.
■The eyes refer to the true tops, and feelings for the origin
It's a story that revolves around fakes and authenticities——。 The 00th episode of the premiere of "Fate/staynight", which is ready to go, is actually an hour-long special broadcast. We interviewed the superintendent Takahiro Miura.
"This time, it was a TV anime, but it gave us the feeling that we were doing a theatrical version of the anime. Episode 00 and Episode 01 will be the counterpart of the inside and the outside, and this is probably the first attempt in the industry. These are also thanks to the help of Atsuhiro Iwakami and Hikaru Kondo. ”
Chapter 00 mainly tells the story of Rin Tosaka, a magician who joined the Holy Grail War in order to fulfill the tragic wish of his father Tosaka Tokitomi who failed to fulfill. Chapter 01 tells the story of Emiya Shirou, who learned an incomparably strong sense of justice from his stepfather, Emiya Kiritsugu. The two children who inherited their father's legacy from the previous game Fate/Zero are facing new challenges.
"All the original drawings of the previous game "Fate/Zero" used in "Fate/staynight" have been remastered, from art to character design. For example, Emiya Kiritsugu, in the final analysis, is only Emiya Kiritsugu in the eyes of Shirou. We inherited the image of Kiritsugu Emiya from Fate/Zero, and reworked it. ”
The storyboards and performances in Chapter 00 are all supervised by Takahiro Miura. The hour-long anime tells Rin Tosaka's daily life (school life) and non-daily life (participating in the Holy Grail War as a magician), and the story as a whole is depicted in great detail.
"When I was storyboarding, I focused most on the original text. The script and the original work are juxtaposed, and the narrative of the original work is selected according to the situation, and the final storyboard is gradually completed. This time, Mr. Nasumamu, who was in the original work, also added detailed explanatory text to the script, and even wrote the entire scene in some places, so I had a deeper understanding of the work as a whole. But what we're doing is just a fake, no matter how you look at it. For example, in the case of the character of Kiritsugu Emiya, ufotable, who had previously taken over the production of "Fate/Zero", proposed that he should be portrayed as a hero. However, Nasu Mushroom says that no matter how much kindness Kiritsugu acts, he is still just a wicked person for self-gratification, and this is also true for Kamishiro. Mr. Nasu told us about this "most fundamental part of writing Fate". In the final storyboard, I used Nasu-sensei's opinion. He helped me to the end in his busy schedule, and he was really the biggest contributor this time. ”
In other words, the goal this time is to make a "real" FSN, not an impostor. Sublimating the real thing into an image is the duty of the Miura overseer.
"This project started several years ago, so we had to think about what it would look like years later. In recent years, photography and 3D technology have advanced rapidly. This work is made by hand-painting.,You can ask the chief painting supervisors in this regard.。 ”
"In episodes 02 and 03, there will be an original plot provided by Nasu-sensei.,I'm very concerned about how it will be after playing.。 For those who know the original, you can also feel the fun from it. The above is the ufotable version of "Fate/staynight", I hope you can enjoy it. ”
【Interview with Character Design and System】
Character design? Chief Painting Superintendent - Tomotoku Sudo
Introduction:すどう?とものり/Animator,ufotable belongs。 For the first time in the theatrical version of "The Realm of the Void", he was responsible for the character design of a TYPE-MOON work. In 2013, he served as a supervisor for the first time in "The Empty Realm: The Future Gospel".
設ò人 - Hikaru Kondo
Profile: こんどう?ひかる/制zuò人, Executive Director of UFOTABLE. After leaving TelecomAnimation, he founded ufotable on his own. In addition to anime, we also operate large-scale events such as "MACHI★ASOBI".
■ Dare to take on the challenge of making "Fate" in 2014
INTERVIEWER At the FateProject Latest Information Briefing held at the end of July this year, please share your thoughts on the presentation.
Tomotoku Sudo: We only went on stage when the anime was announced, and then we watched the live broadcast backstage with Miura, Kondo, and Tabata on Guò Niconico. It was very interesting to see the reactions of the audience who were not there.
Hikaru Kondo: When the final theatrical version of "Fate/staynight [Heaven's Feel]" was announced, Kirizakura's voice actress Noriko Shimoya cried, and I was really moved. Of course, it wasn't a show at the event (laughs). yes, gotta make a really good animation.
-- The TV series "Fate/staynight" has officially launched. Please tell me about the true intentions of Chapter 00 and Chapter 01 this time.
Hikaru Kondo: The route of the TV series was chosen as "UnlimitedBladeWorks", which is also known as the "Rin" line. However, the original game was from Shirou's point of view, so this time we wanted to depict both Rin and Shirou's point of view. In the end, there is a sequel (00 chapters) about Rin in the whole article.,And 01 chapters in the same timeline.,Shirou is the main point of view.。
Tomotoku Sudo: This scene can really be described as "endless" (laughs). The combined number of shots in Chapter 00 and Chapter 01 can even be compared to the theatrical version.
Hikaru Kondo: Because there are a lot of action scenes. There are a lot of fight scenes in each of the 00 and 01 chapters. And then the most interesting thing is the two scenes where Rin and Shirou pass by in these two episodes, which will be very interesting after changing perspectives.
- Is the system a two-shift system?
Tomotoku Sudo: Yes. I'm in charge of the drawing supervision of Chapter 00 (storyboard?) The performance is supervised by Miura), and episode 01 is in charge of Tokushima Ban (storyboard?). The performance is by Takuya Nonaka, and the painting supervision is Takayuki Motegi, Tetsuto Sato, and the production is handled by ufotable Tokushima Studio). Tokushima is very good at depicting antics and the direction of Fujimura Taiga and Emiya's dinner table scenes has been roughly set early on, which is very good.
Hikaru Kondo: There are a lot of young people coming to Tokyo Studio this time. For example, one of them, who was in charge of the video in "The Realm of the Void", participated in FSN's production as a painting supervisor this time, and the scene was full of lively atmosphere, and it was quite fun.
Yutoku Sudo: Until now, the action scenes have relied on Mitsuru Kofunai, Hiroshi Kimura, and Masayu Kunihiro, but this time we have absorbed a lot of fresh blood from the action system, which makes us feel very gratified.
- After the start of this anime, the three classmates who appeared in Rin and Shirou's daily life suddenly became the focus.
Sudo Tomotoku: The overseer liked them very much.
Hikaru Kondo: I think Miura is a good supervisor who is obsessed with the love of the character.
Tomotoku Sudo: The protagonist of "Fate/staynight" this time is a student. The three classmates depict the daily life of adolescent boys and girls, but the sudden collapse of such an ordinary daily life after that is really a strong contrast. This is necessary to distinguish between the everyday and the extraordinary. Of course, the three of them have a little more scenes because of the personal preferences of the superintendent.
- 2014's "Fate/staynight" is refining and updating all aspects of the work, what do you think of the effect?
Sudo Tomotoku: Takashi Takeuchi, who was the original character of the role, has been refining his drawing skills every year. When talking to Takashi Takeuchi, he often says, "Is this trendy enough?" This question. He didn't just want to change Shirou and Taiga's outfits this time, such as closing the zipper on the edge of Gilgamesh's knight's coat, changing the toes of his boots to a square, and drawing Archer's feet in ......more detail. Really meticulous tweaks have been made everywhere. Takeuchi's painting is not just about adding some lines and drawing the content into it, but focusing on the silhouette, if you take the silhouette away, then it will no longer be Takeuchi's painting at all. This is one of our special focuses.
INTERVIEWER Is there anything you can look forward to in the future?
Yutoku Sudo: Chapter 03 will be the episode of Atsushi Ikatani (chief painting supervisor), so please look forward to the hardcore battle plot (laughs).
Hikaru Kondo: A lot of things have happened on the way to this point, and I'm really happy that the ufotable version of "Fate/staynight" will make its debut this time. I believe that there will be more challenges in the future, and at the same time, there will be more content that needs to be conveyed to the audience, and I am very much looking forward to it.
[Interview with the original work and the original case of the character]
Original - Nasu Mushroom (TYPE-MOON)
Introduction:なす?きのこ,Well-known scriptwriter、Novelist。 Graduated from the Graduate School of Humanities, Hosei University. With Takashi Takeuchi's friend from junior high school, the two jointly established "TYPE-MOON". In 2004, he released his first commercial game "Fate/staynight".
Original Character - Takashi Takeuchi (TYPE-MOON)
Introduction:たけうち?たかし,Member of the bamboo broom fandom、Chairman (president) and founder of the famous acg work business company TYPE-MOON,He is also a well-known original artist、General supervisor of work painting and character/character original engineer。 And Nasu Mushroom are the core characters of "TYPE-MOON", and the two have been friends since middle school.
■Ten years of "Fate" after ups and downs
- At the "FateProject New Intelligence Briefing" held at the end of July, countless news about the Fate series was announced. What are your thoughts on this presentation?
Takashi Takeuchi: I held this presentation because it was the 10th anniversary of "Fate/staynight", and I was very happy that the audience was very enthusiastic when the video of "Heaven's Feel" was announced. I felt the love that everyone had for the Fate series.
Nasu Mushroom: Although the friends who attended the event were all Fate fans, they were all more senior fans. Pleasing these fans also became one of the main purposes of that event. I thought that the animation of the TV series of "UnlimitedBladeWorks" would be the biggest focus of the announcement, but what we didn't expect was that the announcement of "Heaven's Feel" made fans explode at once, and the reaction was more enthusiastic than we expected. There is a kind of "everyone is happy, and so are the mushrooms!" "Feelings. During the presentation, both the old and new Fate were announced, and if everyone was happy with the news, it would give us a lot of motivation from the side.
INTERVIEWER It also announced new experiments such as free delivery for a limited time in the smartphone version of the game "Fate/staynight [RealtaNua]".
Takashi Takeuchi: The biggest issue has always been the question of which line to use for the TV animation of the Fate series. One of them suggested that it would be better to choose the UBW line for the sake of the overall fun of the anime story, and Hikaru Kondo proposed that "if the SABRE line can be played by anyone, then the anime can enter the UBW production without hesitation." ”
Nasu Mushroom: Then someone replied that since UBW is based on the SABRE line, then there needs to be some form to let the audience know about the SABRE line, so the best way to think about it is to use the mobile version of the free APP.
Takashi Takeuchi: What Hikaru Kondo values most is the "continuity" of the work as a whole. From the SABRE line to UBW, not only the continuity of the story, but also the will of the producer for the work will continue. When we heard that, we all agreed.
Nasu Mushroom: It would be great if you could come up with the idea that you have a lot of time until next week, so let's play with the SABRE line.
■ The 2014 version of "Fate" that has been refined and updated countless times
- What are the two of Takeuchi Takashi and Nasu Mushroom in the 2014 zuòFate anime?
Takashi Takeuchi: Fate's costume (image) now seems to have a lot to offer. I would make proposals for places that were more abrupt when making ufotable, such as the costumes of Oga Fujimura and Shirou. Shirou's outfit hasn't changed much, in fact, if you look closely, you'll find that his outfit is quite half-, but after looking at it, you will feel that the balance is great and it looks comfortable. This is also similar to Shirou's own personality.
INTERVIEWER What do you think of ufotable's character design?
Takashi Takeuchi: Yutoku Sudo has been involved in the animation of TYPE-MOON's works until now, and I can only say that he is really good. This time, he especially portrayed the character of Sakura Makiri. Atsushi Ikari feels very stable, and although Toshiyuki Tabata is working for the first time, he finally succeeded in mastering the style of TYPE-MOON.
Nasu Mamu: As a script, I put a lot of emphasis on the comfortable depiction in the first place, considering the perspective of anime fans in 2014. Fill in the deficiencies and delete the useless ones. At the same time, he has made full use of the experience he has accumulated over the past 10 years to depict many original scenes. At first, the supervisor would ask me to fill in the gaps in the work, and then I would cut the work myself and finally hand it over to ufotable. Either of the additional parts is very interesting and gives me a fresh feeling. Therefore, this original plot is recognized as the product of the joint work of TYPE-MOON and ufotable.
■The opponent of "Fate/staynight" will be the next "Fate"
- It has been seven years since ufotable made "The Realm of Emptiness". How does it feel to make an animated zuò this time?
Takashi Takeuchi: The main thing about making the animation of "Fate/staynight" was to make the audience feel that it was different from "Fate/Zero". The strategies and intentions of the characters in "Fate/Zero" are depicted in detail, but "Fate/staynight" focuses more on the comfort of a shonen manga. From this aspect, it can be said that it is only fitting that Takahiro Miura was chosen as the supervisor this time. He is an overseer who can express "handsomeness" directly and without reservation.
Nasu Mushroom: This time it will be a two-season work, and the Miura director said that he will not make any compromises in terms of plot. Ten years ago, I was conceited with the enthusiasm of not losing to anyone when I was making zuò Fate games, and the current Miura supervisor can be said to be exactly the same as me at that time, no, even surpassing me at that time.
Takashi Takeuchi: Rather than focusing on the balance of the whole, Inspector Miura has a feeling of putting all his enthusiasm into a little explosion. The framework of the story is given to Nasu Mushroom, and Tong Guò continues to refine it, trying his best to express the picture in Nasu Mushroom's mind. This method is very important even in the TYPE-MOON game system. From this point of view, he can be said to be the best choice for this animation supervisor.
INTERVIEWER It seems that "Fate/staynight" will be more exciting in the future. Then on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the FATE series, there are also many new announcements on the TYPE-MOON side. Can you tell us more about these new developments?
Nasu Mushroom: Well, 10 years...... Does that mean let me fight for another thirty years! (laughs)
Takashi Takeuchi: Actually, there is no plan for what to do for the 10th anniversary, but this "Fate/staynight" anime broadcast just happened to coincide with the 10th anniversary, so I went with the flow. So Fate/GrandOrder is just one of the new forks of the game after all. When you really start making zuò, you will find that you can make your work more interesting. Although Fate/GrandOrder is only a social game, it was quite a challenge for us. We developed with the goal of making the game enjoyable for a long time or for a short period of time.
Nasu Mushroom: The production of "Fate/GrandOrder" collided with the broadcast of the anime, so we wanted to be as enthusiastic about making our own game as ufotable. If the origin of the anime is "Fate/staynight", which is depicted with the industry's most advanced technology, then "Fate/GrandOrder" will present the latest and largest FATE to the audience! In order to be able to get the words of the fans, "Since it is already the 10th anniversary, then we will accompany you for another 10 years", we will work harder in the future.
