The general director of Akiyuki Shinbo, talks about the charm of the animated version of "Pseudo-Love".
The original TV anime "Pseudo-Love" is a popular manga serialized by Naoshi Furumi on "Weekly Shonen Jump", and the second season will be broadcast from April. This is a romantic comedy in which a "pseudo-love" couple who are reluctant to start dating at first in order to round up the disputes around them, gradually attract each other, and get involved in various disputes with their friends.
This time, the Japanese media published an interview with Akiyuki Shinbo, the general supervisor of this work. In this interview, Akiyuki Shinbo, who has directed popular anime such as "Madoka Magi", will explain in detail the charm of this work and the characteristics of the performance. Let's find out.
- Halfway through the second season of the "Pseudo-Love" anime, has your impression of the original changed compared to before?
New home: The impression has not changed at all. When I first read the original work, I intuitively felt that "this is a funny romantic comedy". In addition, there is a feeling of shoujo manga that I have read myself before, and it is relatively simple and easy to understand. These elements of the work have not changed to this day, so this beautifully balanced story can continue. Whether it's staying the same or breaking the balance, it's all fun.
INTERVIEWER Was there anything you particularly cared about when making a romantic comedy?
New home: Nothing special to pay attention to. However, when romantic comedy works have few characters, it will be more difficult to express the charm of the work. When the relationship between the characters becomes triangular and quadrangular, it has a slight sense of composition of a romantic comedy. "Pseudo-Love" can be regarded as a triangular relationship from the first episode, but because it is not a real couple who can convey mutual affection, it is also interesting to add characters at this time.
There is often a key point in the main theme of the story, but the second season of the anime focuses more on the portrayal of each small story than on the portrayal of that part. Between Season 1 and Season 2, we made an OVA that was released in conjunction with the original manga. The OVA consists of two 15-minute short stories. I thought it was interesting to make zuò, so in the process of making zuò in Season 2, we also tried more ways to compose episodes with different stories of A and B, so maybe we can better show the richness of this work.
In the work "Pseudo-Love", the tone of the romantic comedy is of course the main premise, but there are also characters who end in 1 word. Needless to say, the relationship between (the protagonist) Rakuwa (the heroine) Chithorn, and there are also a few episodes that focus on Onodera, Wanlihua, and Thrush (Spotted Thrush), and I want to reflect the charm of each character as much as possible.
- Haru, the younger sister of Season 2's new character Saki Kosaki, has appeared. The official appearance starts in episode 7, does this have any special meaning?
New house: I didn't realize the problem of the number of words. In Season 2, the content of which episode to put was decided at the time of the anime formation meeting, and it was decided that everyone would list the stories they wanted to make zuò together, and in the discussion, it was decided that "Haru's words will appear in this section". The animation structure is basically in the order of the original work, but in order to make the characters more three-dimensional, sometimes the order of the plot is slightly adjusted. Therefore, it will be more interesting for veteran fans of this work to watch the anime while comparing the plot sequence in the original work. However, there are still a lot of small stories that haven't been added after the completion of the second season of zuò, so I want to make zuò in the anime in the future.
- There are 4 words left until the end of Season 2. Let's talk about what to see in the future.
Xinfang: Please be sure to watch "Pseudo-Love", which has become more lively due to the arrival of spring.
Recently, there was a very interesting thing that I accidentally found a lot of hidden "Pseudo-Love" fans among the staff. When I was assigning performances and scripting tasks to the staff who didn't participate in the first season of Zuò, someone said to me, "Actually, I'm a fan of Pseudo-Love." "I want to say, then why didn't you say it when you made zuò season 1! (laughs).
In addition, the ending song of "Pseudo-Love" is very good. Sho Watanabe wrote songs with a lot of variations, and I thought it was amazing when I listened to it in the first season, but in the second season, he composed a completely different atmosphere. A new song will be played in the second half of the anime, so stay tuned.
