scp-016 -017 -018
Item No: SCP-016
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-016 is to be kept in a 5 m x 5 m x 5 m room at all times, with a temperature below zero degrees Celsius. Unless ordered directly by Level 4 or O5 officials, SCP-016 itself must be kept in a Patri dish within the containment measures at all times. All complete records of SCP-016 experiments must be submitted prior to and after the recall of samples or replicas of SCP-016. Any lack of protocol and failure to track down will result in obliteration or relegation to D-class personnel. Only specially authorized personnel are permitted to experiment with SCP-016 specimens under BC-L5 containment measures.
In the event of an outbreak of SCP-016 in the midst of these measures, the base manager must immediately implement a Level 1 containment and containment plan, codenamed Sigma. Base security forces must immediately be equipped with MOPP (Attack Prevention) class anti-biological and chemical equipment, and wipe out all infected individuals on the spot. If the contagion does not end after 48 hours, the base nuclear explosive device will be detonated. All members are not allowed to retreat for any reason.
SCP-016 has been shown to survive for more than 6 hours in the bloodstream, and only a few minutes in the air. Intense ultraviolet light and high concentrations of chlorine-containing bleach have been shown to disinfect non-biotic materials.
Description: SCP-016 is a bloodborne pathogen isolated from a coal miner who accidentally injured himself while working in a deep mine in █████ area. The wound had been contaminated with coal ash from the mine, and it is likely that the worker had been infected with dormant pathogen spores. Over the next few days, SCP-016 has infected all remaining members of the camp and the CDC crisis team that has arrived to deal with the contagion. Foundation personnel soon officially took over, and wiped out all infected. Patient 0 was brought back and imprisoned, and the mine was blasted and landfilled.
The incubation period of SCP-016 ranges from 24 hours to two years, depending on the number of other hosts in the area. Initial symptoms are similar to the common cold and include itchy eyes, runny nose, cough, and body aches. The second stage, which begins 48 hours after the onset of illness, includes a manageable haemorrhagic fever in which a small amount of blood enters the lungs from the tissues, creating a particulate effect. In the third stage, the host will ulcerate and spurt blood all over the body, and blood gushes out of all the orifice knives of the body, including the nostrils, lacrimal ducts, pores, mouth, urethra, and vagina (females only). In the final stage, blood pressure rises dramatically, and patients are observed to spurt blood up to 5 meters away. If the patient survives this stage, the pathogen will be inactivated, re-dormant, and return to the incubation period.
The most significant difference between SCP-016 and other species of hemorrhagic fever, such as Ebola virus and herpes (Marburg disease), is its unique response to high stress. When a patient is in a state of stress (e.g., when life is threatened), the pathogen mutates into a DNA retrovirus that changes its survival strategy from simple self-replication to recombination with the patient's DNA to promote cell division. The greatest physiological changes occur within the first 24 hours, and complete reconstruction of the body will be completed within the next two weeks. Most patients die from the mutation process because they are unable to meet the excessive demands of their body's mutations.
Mutation causes another side effect: the mutant has a strong desire to attack. It is believed that this shift is to maximize the spread of the virus, just like rabies. On the other hand, mutated individuals are no longer affected by SCP-016's bleeding symptoms: patients who are infected by the mutant's attack will still develop the normal course of SCP-0-16.
Addendum: Experiment log of SCP-016 mutants
Subject D-016-1: D-class personnel infected with SCP-016. After the onset of Stage 1 symptoms, the subject's environment will be submerged in water after 24 hours. SCP-016 transforms into a malformed (viral) state, causing the subject's lungs to mutate into gills. Subject was able to survive for more than two weeks under this mutation, with the addition of a mutation of the lungs to gills, deterioration of both eyes, greatly enhanced hearing, and the ability to echolocate cetaceans. After all water in the environment was emptied, the subject died of asphyxiation, and the body was cremated without an autopsy.
Subject D-016-2: D-class personnel infected with SCP-016. After the onset of Stage 1 symptoms, the subject's environment will be slowly submerged in water after 24 hours. SCP-016 transforms into a deformant (viral) state, causing the subject to mutate, rapidly increasing muscle and knuckle bones. Subject then attempted to make a hole in the reinforced iron door in an attempt to escape. But failed, and drowned.
Note: Same situation, different responses. Interesting. - Dr. ████████
Subject D-016-3: D-class personnel infected with SCP-016. Subject, a former chemical engineer, was poisoned to death by his wife when he discovered his affair with his subject. After the onset of Stage 1 symptoms, the subject's environment will be submerged in water after 24 hours. SCP-016 transforms into an amorphous (viral) state, causing the subject to mutate, creating a special organ within the body, consisting of two separate tubes and a special cavity. The organ began to suck up water through the pipes and swell until Foundation personnel discovered what SCP-016 might be up to. Subject was shot. It was found that several air sacs were produced within the organ, filled with acetylene and oxygen.
Subject D-016-4: D-class personnel infected with SCP-016. Subjects were instructed to concentrate on imagining themselves giving birth to wings. No pressure display was performed. SCP-016 has not mutated into an anomaly (viral state). Subject died of stage 3 symptoms of collapsed hemorrhage.
Subject D-016-5: D-class personnel infected with SCP-016. Subjects were instructed to concentrate on imagining themselves giving birth to wings. It is located in a plastic box suspended in a 305-meter-deep mine. There is a timer on the outside of the box, and the subject is told that the box will be dropped when the timer is over. SCP-016 transforms into a deformity (viral state), causing the subject to mutate, producing a tentacle-like piece of tissue at the joint of his left wrist, similar to a spider's spinneret. Subject explicitly protrudes the tentacle tissue from one of the vents in the box and ejects a tough filament, through which the box is reinforced to a steel cable. Subject was obliterated by a detonated bomb at the end of the timer.
Item No: SCP-017
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-017 is to be kept in a room measuring 5.5 m x 5.5 m x 4.27 m (18 ft x 18 ft x 14 ft) suspended in a 0.169 cubic meter (6 square foot) acrylic glass cage in the center. The walls, ceiling, and floor of this room are filled with arc lights, aimed at the cage in the center, to ensure that SCP-017 is exposed to light from all angles at all times. Designated personnel entering SCP-017's control room are to perform the following duties only: to check the function of spotlights and temporary generators, and to request maintenance immediately if they become aware of a burned-out bulb or a malfunctioning generator
Staff are only allowed in the room if the light bulb needs to be replaced. Staff entering the room are required to wear special fully reflective uniforms and are to be absolutely cautious not to stand in front of any working light bulbs.
Description: SCP-017 has a humanoid silhouette, 76 centimeters (2 feet 6 inches) tall, and resembles a human child, but does not have any discernible physical features. SCP-017's body appears to consist of a vague smoke screen. No physical matter has been successfully discovered inside the smoke screen so far, but the possibility of future discovery cannot be completely ruled out.
Once a shadow is created and overlayed on SCP-017, SCP-017 reacts rapidly. It will immediately envelop the source of the shadow in its entirety, which will return to its normal size. The enveloped object vanished without a trace.
Notes: Staff with BETA clearance or higher are allowed to view File #017-1.
Item No: SCP-018
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-018 is to be contained in a special sealed metal box measuring 1 meter in length, 1 meter in width and height, filled with high-density synthetic filler, and further immersed in the heart of a 10 meter polyethylene storage tank with a length of 10 meters. If SCP-018 escapes the sealed box, the polyethylene-based viscous substance will weaken its kinetic energy so that it can be retrieved by control personnel. Personnel entering SCP-018's containment chamber are to wear special metal armor (an element observed inside SCP-018) and gas masks when exiting the polyethylene storage tank. In the event that SCP-018 escapes the storage tank, on-site personnel are advised to enter a separate chamber for personal safety, and seal off the hallway and hatch to isolate the subject until the containment team arrives.
Description: Ostensibly, SCP-018 is a 1969 Wham-O company Super Ball, six centimeters in diameter, red, discovered ██████████ the company when it was hired to clean a warehouse that had previously stored Wham-O company merchandise. At first glance, SCP-018 appears to be nothing more than a brightly colored children's toy, but is known for its unusual bouncing power, with a bouncing efficiency of over 200% (i.e., falling from a height of 1 meter, bouncing back 2 meters, then 4 meters, 8 meters, and 16 meters). The ball immediately turned into a dangerous shell, estimated at speeds of more than 100 kilometers per hour. It destroyed houses and injured five people in █████████████ City, and only came to rest in a nearby ████████ lake a few days later and was recovered by SCP personnel. Given the high speed of the subject and the surprise of the victim, there is no need to fabricate facts to cover up the truth.
Document 018-04: Note to O5-█
█████████, how are you doing? I'm writing to you because I've found a more effective means of retrieving new or escaped SCP objects. I know I'm not making any progress on the reverse engineering of this thing, and God knows what the hell is making it violate the laws of thermodynamics, but I've managed to fit it on a new type of SCP-A5 armor. After listening to me, we planted it in the bottom of the boot, and installed some mechanical devices, and now the armor can easily go over tall buildings. If the user of the armor wants to send something to hell, the next command can deliver a fatal kick. It's this advanced type of SCP-A5 armor, give me permission to renovate, and you'll be able to catch ████████████ for sure, plus any escaped SCP subjects. Trust me, when did I let you down?
- Dr. █████████
Document 018-06: Letter to Dr. █████████
Dr. █████████:
The last time an agent ██████ was on a mission to recover SCP-███, he was assigned your improved SCP-A5 armor, but the results were mixed. The good news is that agents ██████ managed to put a ██████████ collar on SCP-███ and chased it around the Amazon, dismantling it to pieces. But now he's got two legs broken, seven ribs, one arm missing, and a big gash in his head, because he fell a mile into the lake of ███████████ when he came back, because something went wrong with your "little mechanical device." Don't try to get permission from me to put it into use without fixing your armor.
Document 018-11: Note to O5-█
█████████, don't worry, you've got it all done. I have an idea, if I can use a piece of water from SCP-006, SCP-███ or even SCP-███, I'll give you a suit of SCP-A5 armor and an agent, outliers of beasts, unsecured SCPs, they can catch anything, just wait for your words.
