scp-019

Item No: SCP-019

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-019 is to be kept in a reinforced 3 m x 3 m x 4 m chamber with an incinerator and placed on a furnace grid. When the incinerator is turned off, the room must be maintained at zero degrees Celsius. The monitoring room across the window from the room is to be kept on track for SCP-019 movements, and the incinerator is to be activated immediately upon the presence of an instance of SCP-019-2. In the unlikely event of a riot in SCP-019-2, individual instances can be obliterated with normal firearms, and flamethrowers can be effective against large-scale outbursts. The body of SCP-019 must be placed upright at all times.

Description: SCP-019 appears to be a large porcelain vase, 2.4 meters in height and 1.8 meters in diameter at the beak. While there is no way to determine the exact date of its origin, it is believed to have been born in ancient Greece based on its style and pattern, and the surface of SCP-019 cannot be damaged by any known means. If any method succeeds in the future, SCP-019 must be immediately and unconditionally destroyed.

SCP-019 periodically produces another independent entity. These instances are collectively referred to as SCP-019-2. They take on a variety of forms, but tend to be small-bodied humanoids (which may have animal features) and are highly hostile. They attack with their teeth and claws. Although extremely fragile (and extremely flammable), they can still pose a serious threat when there are enough of them.

When kept at 0 degrees Celsius and at rest, instances of SCP-019-2 emerge from SCP-019 at a rate of one per hour.

The following conditions are known to affect the rate at which SCP-019-2 appears:

β€’ Move SCP-019

β€’SCP-019 itself is threatened

β€’ Extreme temperatures (high and low temperatures)

β€’ Sudden changes in the surrounding environment

β€’Inserting any object, both inorganic and organic, into SCP-019 (will trigger a "tidal" effect on a large number of individuals)

The following conditions have the potential to affect the rate at which SCP-019-2 appears

β€’Humans appear in the vicinity of SCP-019

β€’ Current weather conditions

β€’Certain individuals approaching SCP-019 (some are more likely than others to cause SCP-019-2 instances to appear faster)

Addendum: SCP-019-2-A Files

Transcripts of SCP-019-2 are maintained by Dr. Light and Dr. Vaux.

Specimens of SCP-019-2 were removed from containment chambers and kept in a sturdy enclosure, provided with water and live chickens as food. The specimen continuously emits a faint, chaotic sound, similar in pitch to that of ancient Greek. While it is unclear why this is the case, the specimen does not exhibit higher intelligence than the animals

The specimen survived for less than 48 hours, and dissection revealed that the subject's bones had a level of honeycomb structure that is stable in normal biology, but the skeletal muscle was extremely unstable. Other notable anomalies include an unstable respiratory system, no digestive tract, and virtually no other internal organs. All other captured specimens had similar characteristics, behavioral habits, and time of death.

Note: It seems that (SCP-019-2 exists only to defend SCP-019) it doesn't matter to them how long they can survive without SCP-019. - Dr. Vaux

β–ˆβ–ˆ/β–ˆβ–ˆ/β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ

The containment device has suffered minor damage due to prolonged attacks by SCP-019-2 instances. Cause: Newly created instances of SCP-019-2 are partially transparent and not monitored by observation teams. No previous instances of SCP-019-2 have been observed to exhibit this trait. The monitoring group continues to track and report more anomalies

Surveillance Team Reports: Some instances of SCP-019-2 have shown greater resistance to incinerators than others. It is tentatively assumed that this feature is part of SCP-019's defense mechanism.

Most instances of SCP-019-2 are almost completely capable of resisting incinerators. Consider using an acid pool instead of an incinerator. Research into the "evolution" of SCP-019-2 is ongoing, and may serve as evidence of SCP-019-2's sentient abilities.

Item #: SCP-020

Item Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Specimens of SCP-020 are to be kept in a sealed cylindrical culture chamber with a diameter of 1 meter and a height of 1 meter. This culture chamber is located in an enclosed containment chamber and can only be accessed via an airtight chamber. The nutrient supply is managed by an automated robotic system, and the incubation room must remain closed in any situation.

Hermetically sealed video surveillance cameras are installed in the containment chamber and the integrity of the cameras must be checked daily. Any personnel entering the containment chamber must go through a full antifungal disinfection procedure upon exiting.

Description: SCP-020 is a rapidly spreading fungus capable of affecting the senses and behavior of all living objects, including humans. Specimens of SCP-020 have an unknown effect, making them unobservable even under a microscope. SCP-020 can only be observed by humans through cameras or surveillance.

Once SCP-020 has formed a colony, usually in a human habitation, it will produce spores that affect the behavior of humans around it. Affected subjects will increase the temperature and humidity of their homes in order to create a more suitable environment for SCP-020 to grow. Affected subjects also become more sociable, and in many cases, will often invite acquaintances to their homes in order to further spread the organism. Because spores and mold colonies affect the target imperceptibly, mold may sometimes grow directly on a living subject.

When spores and colonies reach home-style critical concentrations, the health of the affected human subject deteriorates rapidly and leads to death. Further spread of mold could occur in any first responders and medical personnel who came into contact with the deceased subject, as well as on the way to transport the body to a local morgue.

SCP-020 was first discovered in [DATA EXPUNGED], when a plainclothes SCP noticed a drastic personality change in the staff of the local hospital. Upon arrival, the containment team found β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ civilians, equivalent to most of the town, infected. Civilians were executed, and the town burned to the ground under the cover of a brief forest fire in the area.

To date, more than 12 outbreaks of SCP-020 have been reported. Investigations are currently under way to determine the source of these outbreaks and to take possible preventive measures.

Addendum 020-01: Excerpt from the audio/video recording of the mission by Operational Task Force [DATA EXPUNGED] for the initial containment of SCP-020 in [DATA EXPUNGED].

T2 - Team Leader: Group 2 moves towards the red house.

T2-Command: Repeat, Drone 1 picks up a heat signature.

…

T2-Team Leader: Two groups in place, ready to bring - [foul mouth]!

T2-2: The door is open!

At this time, a civilian woman appeared at the door, holding a kitchen knife in her hand. Video surveillance shows that nearly two-thirds of her face is covered in mold.

Civilian Woman: Hmm...... Hello gentlemen...... Come in and rest for a while?

T2-Team Leader: Get on the ground! Drop the weapon!

Civilian Woman: Don't do anything stupid! In...... Later......

T2-Team Lead: Don't move! Drop the weapon!

Civilian Women: We ...... We just wish there were some guests...... Please...... In......

T2-Leader: Drop the [EXPLETIVE] weapon!

At this point, infected civilians may notice that T2-4 is carrying an incendiary weapon with primers on his back, and swing a knife at the team.

Civilian Woman: [DATA EXPUNGED]

T2-Team Leader: Fire, fire!

Gunshots, screams.

Item Number: SCP-021

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-021 is a human obligate1 parasite, so its containment is no more difficult than that of adult humans, and most confined rooms meet the requirements. Specimen is currently parasitic on D-139 and detained in 217-A. Only D-class personnel are suitable to serve as hosts for SCP-021. When a D-class personnel becomes the host of SCP-021, they are to be exempted from routine termination at the beginning of each month.

Description: SCP-021 covers approximately 0.8 square meters of the host's skin, resembling a tattoo and resembling a large, elaborate serpentine dragon of Eastern mythology. Within the skin in which it lodges, although only present in two dimensions, the tattoo is completely alive and exhibits the behavior patterns of normal animals. The activity of the tattoo causes constant pain to the host, similar to the simultaneous occurrence of large-scale tattooing and tattoo removal. The parasite spends most of its life on or near the surface of the host's torso. SCP-021 does not exhibit intelligence beyond foraging and locomotion, however, intelligence measurements of two-dimensional dimensional life forms have so far been impossible.

SCP-021 exhibits a monophagous that targets pigments on the surface of the host's skin. It can consume melanin and cause the host to have to suffer from vitiligo. However, the parasite shows a significant preference for other tattoos, and will preferentially find and swallow tattoos on the surface of the host over other natural pigments. It is important to note that this eating process is painless when no movement is performed. Ordinary tattoo ink will simply disappear as if it had been "eaten", and the parasite will remain unchanged in size, with no excrement observed. The parasite can clean up to 0.6 square meters of tattoos per hour. One method of "feeding" SCP-021 is to (quickly) tattoo a fruit or critter pattern on the host's surface.

SCP-021 can transform into another host through a variety of forms of physical contact. In a successful transfer, the parasite "swims" from one human surface to another. Sex 1 is the most reliable way to convert, with a 93% success rate. However, this is not the ideal way to go, considering the severe pain that this process can bring. It is more reasonable for the two of them to touch each other with an open wound to form a connection. Transferring to deceased subjects is more complicated: although unreasonable, the parasite does not appear to be adversely affected by the death of the host, and continues to consume pigment on its surface. The status of the transition between the different species is currently unknown: existing experiments have shown that such transitions are either impossible or rare.

SCP-021 will provide a small amount of benefit to its host. It has been shown to increase the release and absorption of adrenaline and reduce lactate production, thereby promoting the host's explosiveness, self-confidence, and pain tolerance in stressful situations, and reducing the usual after-effects of weakness and fatigue. In addition, it has the potential to benefit the host's immune system to some extent. It remains to be seen whether the host's aggressiveness1 behavior pattern is a direct effect of the tattoo or a reaction to the persistent pain it causes.

The duration of this symbiotic relationship generally depends on how much the host is able to tolerate the constant pain of daily life. A certain number of subjects have committed suicide. In extremely rare cases, the host ends up with a fatal skin infection.

The origin and natural form of SCP-021 remain a mystery. It is difficult to trace its transport from host to host under the pretext of secrecy, and the parasite has been around for hundreds of years or more. Despite this, SCP-021 is the longest-serving object in Foundation custody, having been in [DATA EXPUNGED] years ago, and has remained educational throughout this time. Recent research on it has focused on the observation of biological properties in two-dimensional space.
