Chapter 199: Zhejiang follows Guangdong
On 12 April, Zhejiang declared independence after Guangdong, making it the fifth province to declare independence after Yuan. Unlike Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangdong, and Guangxi, Zhejiang is independent in that it belongs to the southeast of the region, and is not geographically contiguous to the previous provinces.
What directly contributed to Zhejiang's independence was Yuan Shikai's plan to station the 10th Division of the Beiyang Army stationed in Shanghai in Zhejiang, which provoked a popular uprising in Zhejiang.
The most important person in realizing Zhejiang's independence was Tong Baoxuan, the commander of the Second Brigade in Hangzhou.
In addition, Xia Chao, director of the police department, Zhou Fengqi, commander of the Ningbo Independent Brigade, Lu Gongwang, the guard of Jiahu Town, and Zhang Zaiyang, the guard of Taizhou, also advocated protecting the independence of the country.
The news of Guangdong's independence reached Zhejiang. Zhu Rui, the general of Zhejiang, and Qu Yingguang, the patrol envoy, did not know that Guangdong's independence was a fake independence, and immediately felt threatened, and immediately asked the central government to ask for troops to consolidate Zhejiang's defense.
At the same time, in order to prevent changes, the troops of the two brigades stationed in the city were transferred outside the city.
Zhu Rui and Qu Yingguang did this because Tong Baoxuan, the commander of the Second Brigade stationed in Hangzhou, was originally the initiator of the Xinhai Revolution, and Zhu Rui was afraid that he would change. The other is Ye Huanhua's brigade, which is the collusion between the anti-child Baoxuan and Ye Huanhua, so they were transferred out together.
The 10th Division of the Beiyang Army stationed in Shanghai was originally going to be transferred to Guangdong, but due to the tight situation in Zhejiang, Yuan Zheng. The government changed and ordered him to go to Zhejiang first. At this time, there was news that the 12th Division stationed in Nanyuan would also come south from the sea to Zhejiang.
Zhejiang is the place where revolutionary pioneers Qiu Jin and Xu Xilin engaged in revolutionary activities, and they also have a strong tradition of democratic revolution. Yuan Shikai's capricious and shameless sabotage of the republic and the restoration of the imperial system have long been unpopular in Zhejiang, and the protector of the land of Zhejiang is brewing.
As soon as the news of the Beiyang Army's arrival in Zhejiang came out, the people of Zhejiang immediately made a big uproar and resisted one after another.
Brigade Commander Tong Baoxuan, who was dedicated to defending the republic, entered the city to meet Zhu Rui and asked him to come forward to declare the independence of Zhejiang.
Zhu Rui immediately convened a meeting of key personnel to discuss. At the meeting, Chief of Staff Jin Hualin and Division Commander Ye Songqing were opposed. Even the brigade commander Ye Huanhua was also very hesitant.
Tong Baoxuan said: "If you don't become independent today, I'm afraid he won't have time to be independent in the future." ”
Zhu Rui looked at everyone present and said, "General Ben's opinion does not have to be independent, nor does it have to be independent, it is just neutral." ”
Most of the people at the meeting agreed with Zhu Rui's statement, Mingzhe to protect himself, maintain neutrality, and not offend both sides.
The next day, Tong Baoxuan found out that Zhu Rui's general office was plotting to lure him into the bureau and arrest him. He took the 23rd and 24th regiments under his command to sneak into the city on the night of 11 April and attack the military headquarters.
The guards of the military station were caught off guard and dispersed in a hurry. Tong Baoxuan took the lead, rushed into the office, looked left and right, and saw no one. I ran all the way into the inner room, upstairs and downstairs, and searched for it, but there was no one.
It turned out that this Zhu Rui cunning rabbit three caves, since he heard the news of the independence of Gui and Guangdong, he had already taken precautions. The family has been transported to Shanghai, and only the agency is kept by himself. When he heard the movement, he knew that it was not good, so he hurriedly changed into civilian clothes and fled.
The other servants in the department came in to report to the general, and saw that Zhu Rui was fleeing over the wall, so they greeted each other and fled in all directions.
Tong Baoxuan turned around and came out and moved to the division commander's office, and Ye Songqing also left early. Then I went to find the chief of staff Jin Hualin and the brigade commander Ye Huanhua, but they all didn't know where to go.
came to the patrol press office, and the patrol press made Qu Yingguang, but he was still calm and came out to greet him. As soon as this good steward, the rudder saw Tong Baoxuan leading his troops to break in, and immediately expressed his approval of independence, and strongly praised Tong Baoxuan, and was willing to promote him as the governor.
Tong Baohuo pushed and said: "The governor is a seat, of course, he is promoted to Qu Gong, if he is a shallow person, how can he be competent?" Today's move is nothing more than a trend of public opinion, and it has to be. ”
Qu Yingguang said: "It's enough to gather the public." ”
The next day, Tong Baoxuan convened a meeting of representatives of the provincial capital to discuss the election of the governor of Zhejiang. At that time, the military circles in Zhejiang could not find a person who could control the whole province, so everyone elected Qu Yingguang, the well-respected governor of Zhejiang Province at that time, to serve as the governor.
Qu Yingguang was a person Yuan Shikai admired, and he said to everyone: "I can only temporarily serve as commander-in-chief in the name of the patrol envoy to maintain local order. ”
His purpose was to protect Zhejiang and prevent the turmoil from harming Zhejiang, so he signed the "Songhu Non-Aggression Pact" with Yang Shande, the envoy of the Songhu Protector and the commander of the Fourth Division of the Beiyang Army.
After Zhejiang declared independence, Jiahu Town Guard Envoy Lu Gongwang and other military figures jointly issued a telegram, the full text of which is cloud:
"Beijing Political Affairs Hall, the General Office, the presidents of various ministries, the military and civilian governors of all provinces, and the military, police, business and academic circles are recognized as the first righteousness of Yunnan and Guizhou, the whole country is from the scenery, the axiom is sincere, and it is as bright as the sky. Gongwang and other earnest hopes of the military and civilians from all walks of life in Zhejiang, unanimously declared independence on the real day, and publicly elected Qu Yingguang as the governor. The morale is high, the order is calm, and it can be advised.
"Tracing back to the Xinhai disaster, the republic was completed, and the sea was in turmoil, waiting to be treated. Xiang Cheng took the weight of the people's entrustment, forgot the world for the public, reneged on his oath, destroyed the "Covenant Law" to suppress public opinion, hijacked the righteous people, worshiped foreign debts in Qishan, and harsh the government as fierce as a tiger, causing Lu Yan to be angry and angry, and the road was full of people. Jufu entrusted the name of Chou'an, the Emperor Xitu. The secret of the electricity is laughing at the friendly countries, and the voice of warning is the emperor of the five countries. I don't know that only faith can build a country, only virtue can convince people, the skill of sniping is poor, and the situation of collapse is seen.
"Public hope is equal to state affairs, how dare you try lightly, there is no personal vendetta in Xiangcheng, this time the righteous rejuvenator, pillow Ge is on standby, there is no hesitation, there is no righteousness, and I really want to conform to the feelings of the people and consolidate the Republic of China. Covered with wind and rain, the national situation is already in danger. If it is four days and three times, where is Lu Nanyi? If you want to reduce the danger of the current situation and clear the disaster of war at home, you have to learn from the general trend of the world and show your determination to kill Qin. There are no rights to speak of, and even more danger than to count. The world is not the world of one person, how can China be the China of the Yuan family?
"Xiang Chengguo still has the heart of loving the people and cherishing himself, and it is advisable to quickly clean himself and avoid the virtuous, and he will show the degree of light, and he will not lose the feeling of retreat. The Qing dynasty was still able to grant Xiangcheng with full authority to organize, and Xiangcheng couldn't follow the example of the old monarch to grant Zhu Feng and Duan. Feng Gong is in the south, Duan Gong is in the north, the arrangement is in the front, and the disaster is worry-free. Moreover, since the Statute exists, the provisions can be relied upon, and the agency has been prescribed for a long time, and disputes cannot arise. Fangjin is falling apart from the four seas, the hearts of the people are separated, the northern brigade of Sichuan and Hunan is frustrated and looking for each other, and the situation in the provinces is becoming more and more urgent. Xiangcheng should also know that the general trend is gone, the flooding is difficult to collect, the soldiers are ominous, and the feelings of the masses can be seen. If the prestige is lost, how will it come to the people? If the army is defeated, defeat can be waited.
"Gongwang and others are careful to reorganize the army and be ready for battle. A few gentlemen at home, in view of this. Bloody statements, Hou Mingjiao! Lv Gongwang, Zhang Zaiyang, Zhou Fengqi, Tong Baoxuan, Wang Guilin, Xia Chao, Yu Wei, Gu Naibin, Xu Zexun, Tong Shaoji, Wang Cao, Shi Chengzhi, Li Weizhang, Wu Zhongrong, Fu Qiyong, Lai Weiliang, Li Quanyi, Wu Wenyuan, Han Shaoji, Wang Haoji, Wang Wenqing, Mo Yongzhen, Zhang Yi, Qiu Shao, Ge Jingzhong, etc. Bright. Stamp. ”
In order to leave a way back for himself, Qu Yingguang sent another secret message to Yuan Shikai, describing how he was pushed, not out of his own will:
“…… At 4 o'clock in the night of 11 April, soldiers and civilians suddenly rushed to the military station, and the general was missing. In the afternoon, the officials of various organs and the leaders of the gentry and merchants appealed to them in full, and finally asked him to be the commander-in-chief of Zhejiang in the name of the patrol envoy, so as to maintain local order. Now the hearts of the people have been settled, and the order is constant. ……”
At this time, when Yuan Shikai was declining, all the rebels were leaving, and his protégés and former officials were also leaving, Qu Yingguang's call made Yuan feel great comfort. In desperation, Gu Buqu's telegram was a secret telegram to him, and on April 14 he issued a decree announcing the contents of Qu's telegram, saying:
“…… When the envoy knew the crown, he was able to adapt to the situation, the army and the people were subdued, the whole Zhejiang was safe, the merit was in the country, and he was very worthy of Jiashang, and he added the rank of general and acted to supervise the military affairs of Zhejiang. At this time of difficult and dangerous situation, we should make perseverance and enthusiasm, take into account the overall situation, and have a well-known reputation, we must always maintain it, make a joint plan, and earnestly tell the army and the people, so that in order to give priority to the country today, we should do our duty of obedience, in order to ensure the peace of order and benefit Sangzi, that is, to benefit the country. President Ben has high hopes. This order! ”
When people say that they are smart, they are stupid enough to think that others are just as stupid as they are. Yuan Shikai's order to reward Qu Yingguang was originally intended to encourage people from other provinces to be loyal to him, but unexpectedly put Qu Yingguang in danger.
Stealing chickens does not lead to losing rice, Qu Yingguang complains bitterly. In addition to scolding Yuan Shikai in his heart for being more stupid than a stupid pig, he could only admit that he was unlucky. He has no strength base in Zhejiang, and the people who support him are Yuan Yuan. Seeing Yuan's order, it turned out that Qu Yingguang actually had a secret telegram to Yuan to engage in duplicity, and all walks of life in Zhejiang called Qu one after another to accuse Qu.
Soon after, Zhou Fengqi, the commander of the independent brigade of Ningtai Town, and Lü Gongwang, the commander of Jiahu Town, both arrived in Hangzhou, and Qu Yingguang was forced to resign, and on 6 May, Lü Gongwang was appointed as the governor of Zhejiang.
Lv Gongwang (1879-1954), male, from Yongkang, Zhejiang, was born in the Qing Dynasty.
In 1900, Lu Gongwang met Qiu Jin in Hangzhou. When they met for the first time, Qiu Jin introduced the revolutionary situation to Lu Gongwang and talked about his views on the current situation. This made Lu Gongwang very admired and impressed, and he said that he would also participate in revolutionary activities. A few days later, at the request of Qiu Jin, Lu Gongwang took a boat from Yongjin Wharf in Hangzhou to Baiyun Nunnery to the west of Leifeng Pagoda.
It turned out that Baiyun'an was the secret liaison station of the Restoration Society, and in a secret room on the second floor, Qiu Jin introduced him to join the Restoration Society, and since then he has become Qiu Jin's right-hand man. Under the auspices of Qiu Jin and Lu Gongwang, the members of the Hui Party and the Guangfu Society in all parts of Zhejiang Province were reorganized into eight armies, which were called the "Guangfu Army" to the outside world.
In 1906, through Qiu Jin, Lu Gongwang was fortunate to meet Xu Xilin, a member of the Guangfu Association and a revolutionary who had gone to Anhui to take up an alternate Taoist, in Hangzhou.
Xu Xilin expressed his appreciation for his participation in the Liberation Society and his active participation in revolutionary activities at the risk of imprisonment and beheading, hoped that he would continue to cooperate with Qiu Jin's work, and suggested that he enter the military circles to develop in order to carry out armed uprisings and struggles in the future. After listening to Xu Xilin's words, he was deeply inspired, and changed his original name "Lu Zhanao" to "Lu Gongwang", saying that he would never live up to Xu Xilin's hopes.
After discussing with Qiu Jin, Lü Gongwang planned to join the guards of the Zhejiang Governor's Yamen Fu Office as a soldier, so that he could penetrate into the Qing army and develop revolutionary forces.
To this end, he wrote a self-recommendation letter to the then governor of Zhejiang, who was moved by the earnest words in his letter, such as "returning the horse leather shroud", and soon recruited him into the guard of the Fu Bureau.
In the barracks, he quickly established good relations with some fellow villagers in Jinhua and other places. According to Qiu Jin's request, in order to cooperate with the revolutionary action of recovering the revolution, it is necessary to do a good job in the rebellion of the soldiers of the guards of the Fu Agency and the foreign guns of the Houchaomen. Through his efforts, he made friends in the army such as Li Yin and Wang Yongquan of the Fuzhi Guard, and Chen Shaocha, the captain of the foreign guns, and played an important role in the later battle to recover Hangzhou.
In April 1907, the "Hebei Baoding Accelerated School of the Ministry of the Army" supervised by Duan Qirui recruited students from all over the country, and 40 Zhejiang students including Lu Gongwang were selected to study. During his studies in Baoding, he not only learned a lot of military knowledge, but also made friends with a group of revolutionary aspirants.
In July 1907, Xu Xilin and other revolutionaries were killed in Anhui Province after launching the Anhui and Zhejiang Uprising Uprising, and the Datong Normal School, the command center of the Zhejiang Uprising, was exposed and confiscated. On July 15, Qiu Jin also died heroically because he organized and participated in the Anhui and Zhejiang uprisings with Xu Xilin. When Lu Gongwang heard the news, he wept bitterly and made up his mind to overthrow the Qing government. The government also avenged Xu Xilin, Qiu Jin and others.
In 1909, after graduating from the Baoding Crash School, Lu Gongwang returned to Zhejiang and was assigned to the second battalion of the 82nd standard of the new army as an officer of the supervision team. At that time, it was not long after the failure of the "Anhui-Zhejiang Uprising", and the land of Zhejiang was still in the midst of white terror. Zhejiang's revolutionary organizations were tragically destroyed, and the revolutionary situation was at a low ebb and in a state of severe difficulty. In order to continue to participate in revolutionary activities, in January 1910, at the invitation of Zhuang Yunkuan, General Office of the Guangxi Armaments Department, and a group of revolutionary comrades went to Guilin to assist in the preparation of the new army and continued to devote himself to the revolution.
During the Xinhai Revolution, Lü Gongwang participated in the battle to recover Hangzhou and conquer Nanjing. He successively served as the 11th Association of the Zhejiang Army, the commander of the 6th Division of the Zhejiang Army, and the guard of Jiahu Town.
