On July 28, 1976, a major earthquake occurred in Tang City, causing huge losses to people's lives and property, and in October, a strong earthquake also occurred in Tong County and E County in Nanzhao Province, causing great losses to people, livestock and houses. Mengna County, where we are located, is the junction of the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate, which belongs to the earthquake-prone zone.

In order to ensure the safety of students, all have early holidays, school teachers work together, do it themselves, go up the mountain to cut trees and cut trees, go to Dai villages to buy bamboo, grass row (a kind of grass used to build a house), a few days, next to the big playground built a simple earthquake-proof grass house, the whole school male and female teachers are separated, all sleep through the bunk, and there is no need to work at night, the male teacher's dormitory and the female teacher's dormitory are like two conference venues, talking and laughing every day, so lively.

This is more than half a year. In order to prepare for long-term earthquake prevention and disaster reduction, farm workers and teachers have taken matters into their own hands, going up the mountain to cut trees, and building wooden plank earthquake-proof houses. Two or three kilometers away from our residence, there are primeval forests in the mountains, which you can choose and cut down.

I took my eldest son, Xiaoyun (15 years old), and my second son, Xiaola (12 years old), and went up to the mountains to cut wood and prepare materials on Sundays. First of all, prepare the pillars and beams of the wooden house. Go up the hill to cut down the straight tree, then sawn it off, split it into square materials, and people pull it on their shoulders and carry it back, and then cut it flat and punch holes; Then prepare the wooden planks, cut down the trees with a diameter of 50 or 60 centimeters, saw them into 2.2 meters each, split them into square materials, and ask someone to sawn them into planks; finally they bought a straw row for building the roof, and then asked someone to spend one or two days to build a house, and a wooden bucket house of more than 100 square meters was built. The wooden house is solid and shockproof, spacious and bright, and there are small living rooms, bedrooms, one living room and three rooms, which are enough for the whole family to live in, and it is really magnificent from a distance. Some people do it more advanced, with auxiliary floors on the ground and ceilings on the roof, which are moisture-proof and dust-proof, like a small villa. This is the first time I have built a private house.

In August 1980, our family moved to the Mengna Farm Department and left the Wufenchang (Yongchun Branch) School. From July 1962, when I went to work in Yongchun Branch, to August 1980, when I left this unforgettable school, I fought here for 18 years, and the name of the school was changed from the 6th Regiment and 24th Battalion School to Mengna Farm Yongchun Branch School, and then to Mengna Farm 5th Branch School (or Mengna Farm No. 5 Middle School).

We have shared weal and woe with the teachers of Wufenchang School for decades, and have formed a deep friendship, and we have all become close friends. Among them, Huang Shoumin and Zhang Shengxin were transferred from Hexi Yongfeng School to my Yongchun School, and became matchmakers to make them a century-old marriage, so their husband and wife are very grateful to me for being an old man. To this day, we continue to communicate.

In August 1980, I was transferred to the mission and education department of the Monna Farm, specializing in school management. So I said goodbye to the teachers at Wufenchang Middle School and moved my family to the Mengna Farm Department. My wife arranged to teach in the primary school directly under the main field. The eldest daughter, Xiaolun, was assigned to work in Mengna General Field Machinery Factory in August 1978, the eldest son Xiaoyun, in August 1979, was assigned to teach in Mengna Farm Middle School, and the second son, Xiaola, was assigned to work in the infrastructure construction team of Mengna Farm Fifth Branch after August 1980, and later went to study medicine and became a hygienist. The third son, Xiaochun, is in junior high school, and the fourth son, Xiaojian, is in elementary school. The family and children are arranged, and the mood is also happy, plus they live in the county seat, and their lives are convenient, so they can only concentrate on work.

The Mission Section is composed of four people: Section Chief Deng and our three officers. Lao Li and I (transferred from Nanla Farm) were in charge of the education and teaching work of the whole school, and the other one was in charge of the propaganda work. The specific work is mainly to forward documents, convey the spirit, carry out inspections, organize unified examinations, deploy teachers, and adjust cadres. Later, the farm system for the college entrance examination and the high school entrance examination was in charge of the farm mission and education section.

In December 1977, the college entrance examination system was resumed after a 10-year hiatus, and people gradually realized the importance of knowledge, and it is impossible for an uneducated nation to stand tall among the nations of the world!

Many far-sighted parents on the farm, seeing that school teachers dare not manage students, principals dare not manage teachers, students are unwilling to study, and the quality of education has not been markedly improved, are anxious and demand that the farm leaders attach importance to education and make great efforts to rectify the educational order, especially the phenomenon of disunity among the leading bodies of the farms and high schools, and the phenomenon of teachers engaging in factionalism.

To this end, the party committee of the general field held a special study meeting on farm education, and decided to drastically adjust the leading group of the farm high school, select and transfer a new principal, and set up a new school affairs committee.

The leaders of the party committee presided over a large-scale parents' forum, which was attended by veteran cadres, students' parents, and representatives of trade unions and women's federations, and extensively listened to the suggestions and opinions of the masses on running schools well, conducted serious studies on existing problems, and put forward rectification measures.

After the meeting, we visited some students and their parents, and did a lot of ideological education work for them, and they also realized that their behavior harmed both themselves and others, and the parents expressed their willingness to cooperate with the school to manage their children. Then the general meeting of teachers was held, and the secretary of the party committee of the general field made a report, calling on teachers to emancipate their minds, abandon their past suspicions, and unite to look forward. Extremely serious criticism and education were given to those who were serious about individual factions, and corrections were made within a time limit.

Through the study, everyone has a unified understanding of strengthening school management and improving the quality of education, and their spirits are also invigorated. The teaching order of the farm high school has obviously improved, the teachers have dared to manage it, and the students have become serious in their studies. Those naughty "naughty boys" have no market!

There is also a similar situation in the schools of Meng Yuan and Meng Xing, all because the grievances between the teachers have not disappeared, the personal grievances have not been resolved, and the school teachers are not united. Through repeated ideological education work, our propaganda and education department has adjusted the leadership group, enriched the teaching team, and brought into play the core role of the party and the caucus, and all schools have also moved towards regularization. For a small number of people who hold on to the "flower steel rock head", please leave the school and transfer to the production team. After several months of comprehensive rectification, the work of education at all levels and all types of schools in Mengna Farm has made new improvements.

In 1980, the higher authorities stipulated that a college entrance examination center should be set up in Mengna Farm Middle School, and the Mengna Farm Missionary Department was responsible for organizing the college entrance examination of the farm system. The administration of the general field attaches great importance to this work, and mobilizes the security department, the health center, the automobile team and other departments to participate, and our mission and education department will undertake the specific work. Lao Li and I were very busy, running around the area and going to school, carefully organizing, carefully arranging, and not daring to make any mistakes.

Section Chief Deng inspects, reports, and coordinates the work of various departments every day, and is also busy. The secretary of the party committee of the field personally went to the test center to inspect and guide, and asked about the preparation until he was satisfied. Every year before the college entrance examination, the district education bureau will send an inspection team to supervise and inspect the college entrance examination work, and they are very satisfied with our work, thinking that we are meticulous in our work and have a strong sense of responsibility. We will be busy until the end of the exam and the armed escort of the exam papers arrives safely in Jingshi, so that we can breathe a sigh of relief.

Due to the great attention of the party committee and the dedication of the colleagues of the mission and education department, there are no problems in the college entrance examination every year. Later, we extended the practice of organizing the college entrance examination to the primary and secondary school entrance examinations of all primary and secondary schools, straightened out the thinking of running schools, and seriously strengthened the style of examination discipline and examination, and "judging heroes by the quality of education" became the consensus of everyone.
