Chapter 21: Goodbye Suicheng

The troops were in good gear and ready to march to the Great Southwest. Before leaving the cellar, in order to strengthen the relationship between the military and the people, and in order to thank the local ** and the villagers for their care, the school decided to invite local villager representatives to have dinner with the company as a unit, so everyone went to help the kitchen and assigned me and Xiao Deng and others to borrow vegetable pots.

Since the language is not fully understood, it can only be gestured with gestures. We borrowed a lot of basins, one of which was painted with red lacquer and painted with patterns, quite beautiful, the size of a ceramic basin, scrubbed clean and sent to the room to serve vegetables.

Four basins per table, a few catties of wine (wine is limited, usually not allowed to drink, today is an exception, but can not be drunk), the dishes are sumptuous, everyone is very happy, eat and drink, talk and laugh, interesting.

The students at our table, eating and eating, felt that the food seemed to have a strange smell, sniffed carefully, and it seemed that there was no smell, no matter how it was, they still ate vigorously. When I eat it, I always feel a smell of urine from somewhere. Some people say that beer smells like urine, so they should put it in the bar.

After the meal, the cooking squad leader noticed that a wooden basin was different, with patterns on the outside of the basin and a blue bottom of the basin. He knew that the blue basin was used by the local elderly to hold urine, so how could he borrow it to hold vegetables, so he was very angry.

When I asked, this basin was borrowed by our class. Now it's okay, the urinal is filled with vegetables, and the dishes are also in the stomach, and it's too late to vomit. As a result, we were ridiculed by everyone, and we were dumb to eat Yellow Lotus - there were words of suffering, and Xiao Deng and I were so angry that I scolded the old woman for her lack of morality. It's also strange that the language is not understood, the old lady didn't understand, and it turned into a big joke by mistake - "The urinal will have a big meal, rich in nutrition, and eat happily!" "Fortunately, the guests are all having dinner together, otherwise the impact would be really bad.

I lived in the landlord's house for more than a month, and we got along day and night, and the old lady took care of us like her own relatives, which was really a bit reluctant to them. One night it rained and the weather became cooler, and the old lady quietly put her own blanket and the like on the crowd, and we learned that everyone was very grateful to her.

There was a small well in her yard, less than three feet deep, which was held upside down by a large ceramic jar, and when the tide rose, it was full of clear water, but when the tide receded, it was not much, and it rose once every six hours. Because there are too many people and there is not enough water, the careful lady will pump the well water into a large vat for us to wash our faces and rinse our mouths when the tide is high, she is really a kind old mother. We are always invited to eat some fruits, but we never eat her stuff casually.

Now that we're leaving, we can't express our gratitude to her. With the permission of the leader, we took a picture with her grandson and enlarged one to give to the old man as a souvenir. More than 60 years have passed, the old lady may be ancient, I wonder if the photo that embodies the deep love between the military and the people is still there?

On October 14, 1949, Suicheng, the largest city in South China, was liberated, and then many provinces in southwest China were liberated one after another, and on December 9, General Lu, chairman of Nanzhao Province, successfully revolted, and the whole territory of Nanzhao Province was peacefully liberated, and the revolutionary situation developed rapidly, and the whole country was soon liberated.

Our large army has already arrived in Nanzhao Province, but our Military and Political University is still enjoying happiness in the Buddhist city of Guangzhou, and everyone hopes to set off as soon as possible to catch up with the pace of liberating the whole country.

On December 23, 1949, the Military University finally set off. We took the train from Foshi back to Guangzhou, and then took a boat up the Xijiang River to Gui Province.

When we arrived in Suicheng, the whole school walked to Xihaokou Wharf to wait for boarding. I'm about to leave Suicheng, "When will you come again?" "Everyone is a little reluctant to go into the city to see. Maybe it's still early to get on the boat, maybe it's that Xihaokou Wharf is very close to the city center, maybe it's because the school leaders are sympathetic to the "people's feelings", the school department suddenly announced that we should go to the most prosperous city center in Suicheng City to have a look, the time is two hours, everyone is happy and shouts long live.

We took the platoon as a unit, walked all the way and looked all the way, and when we came to the vicinity of Zhongshan Hospital, we could see the tallest thirteen-story building in Suicheng City, Aiqun Building. We went downstairs, looked up, and wow! It's too high to see the top. Everyone took the elevator to the ninth floor and couldn't get through, so they had to stand on the corridor on the ninth floor and enjoy the scenery of the city. This is already very good, looking into the distance, the beautiful city of Suicheng is in full view:

High-rise buildings, row upon row, stretching out to the horizon. The charming river is sparkling, like a green ribbon wrapping around Suicheng City, adding a bit of beauty to Suicheng City. Everyone praised endlessly, Suicheng City is really beautiful. The waiter of the restaurant prepared some tea to entertain us, we politely declined, everyone reluctantly left the building, by the way looked at the high-rise buildings and shopping malls on both sides of the street, and got a glimpse of the whole leopard, which was considered to meet one of our wishes, so we returned to the place to standby.

Just as they were about to eat, the ship had arrived, and everyone brought a bowl of rice, and they boarded the boat in order, and the sky was still bright. We were on a chartered merchant ship called the "Yongsheng", which had three floors, the roof of the ship was decorated with electric arc lights, and the interior was spacious enough to accommodate two people in a row. When we set sail, everyone stood on the deck and overlooked the tall "Xiongqun Building" and the riverside scenery, imagining our bright future.

At this time, the publicity officer asked us to stand at the stern of the boat and take a group photo with the landmark building of Suicheng - Xiongqun Building as the background, I was fortunate to keep one, which has become a precious monument today.

The afterglow of the evening dyed both sides of the river red, and the "Yongsheng" cruise ship broke the waves. I saw the lush trees and bamboo forests along the coast, the plantains, the coconut trees, and the smoke curling, so that the southern scene full of vitality was derived, and everyone said: "Jiangnan is so beautiful!" Admiration.

I suddenly remembered Bai Juyi's "Remembering Jiangnan": "Jiangnan is good, the scenery is old? The sunrise river flowers are red, and the spring river is as green as blue, can you not remember the south of the Yangtze River? ”

The ship went straight down to the mouth of the big river, passed through Hucheng, Fancheng, Shuncheng and other places, and marched against the big river to Gui Province.

The speed of the boat was relatively fast, and in the Zhaocheng area, it was suddenly attacked by bandits on the shore at night, and the neon sign was broken. Before we set off, we had set up a sentry on the top of the ship, equipped with two machine guns and one for three people, and then our machine guns immediately returned fire on the opposite shore, and it was pitch black in the cabin, and we all took off and did not move, and the boat was still moving westward. Attacked by bandits in an unknown place, our two crooked machine guns fired fiercely at the enemy, suppressing the enemy's firepower. The ship also picked up speed and quickly broke through the ambush zone of the bandits, and both the man and the ship were unharmed.

After three days and two nights of sailing, they arrived at the gateway of Guizhou Province on December 26, 1949. The brigade got off the ship and entered Wushi. The girls' squadron and some of the sick and wounded continued to sail west to Guixian.

The old name of Wu City is Cangwu, and it is rumored that Yu Shun collapsed here. The landform is dominated by hills, and there are many bamboos on the mountain, and there are a kind of bamboo spots, which are said to be the traces of the tears of Shun's two concubines. The literature records: "So far, the bamboo marks are the tears of the emperor." "Huangying" is Empress E, Nuying, and it is said that she is the daughter of Tang Yao.

Wushi is located at the confluence of two large rivers, the river surface is not wide, the water color is turquoise, and the water is deep and gentle. The city is built along the river, the terrain is flat, the north is high and the south arrives, the urban area is not large, there are many storefronts along the river, most of the three-story buildings, the population is dense, and the economy is prosperous. Waterways and highways are well developed, especially waterways, which can reach Ningshi along the river and Suicheng down the river. In November 1949, Wushi was liberated, and the new renminbi on the market could not be circulated, and we had to trade in copper shells, and it was difficult for us to buy things with new coins.

Stayed in Wu City for a few days. On January 1, 1950, we celebrated the first New Year after liberation in Wushi.
