Section 10: Confession of Guilt

Todd was still asleep, having drunk too much ale the night before, and had nearly collapsed the wooden bed with a plump maid in his arms, and fell asleep at dawn, when a sharp knock at the door woke him up.

"Who's that, bastard?" Todd looked up from the woman's arm, and the fat maid snored like thunder, and Todd had to push her away before he sat up.

"Old, the lord is not good, the serfs are making trouble." A bodyguard broke into his room and shouted in horror.

"What?" Todd didn't even have time to put on his clothes, he shook his head in disbelief, how dare those cowardly serfs resist him, aren't they afraid of whips and hunger?

"It's true." The bodyguard was wearing a leather jacket with a short sword hanging from a leather belt around his waist, almost fully armed, but his face showed fear.

Todd hurriedly put on his coat and hurriedly put on his pants, and the round cake turban that he usually pretends to be like didn't have time to put on, revealing the baldness of the Mediterranean.

"Todd come out, get out."

"Bastards, villains, cursed demons."

"Kill him~~."

Before Todd could reach the door, he heard a noise outside, and a stone thrown at his wooden door, which was held against the wooden door by two heavily armed bodyguards and two terrified manservants.

"What to do, do you want to ask Locke Manor for help and ask them to send a sheriff's army." The bodyguard wiped the sweat from his forehead and suggested to Todd.

"It's too late, we're already surrounded." Todd looked through the small window next to the wooden door, and he found that his house had been completely blocked by serfs, which did not look like a rabble at all.

Bruce stood behind the serfs, he asked the blacksmith father and son to lead people to block the front and back doors of the house, in order to prevent the house from having a secret passage to escape, he also asked the huntress to take a few people to wander around randomly, but he was too careful, Todd was only a tax collector after all, and he couldn't think of digging a secret passage for the house.

"You thugs, dare to attack local officials, are you not afraid of being judged by the nobles?" Todd shouted loudly from the window, of course he was just bluffing, but it was enough to deal with these rabble serfs.

"Oh~~." After Todd's words fell, the serfs fell silent, and they lowered their pitched pitchforks and sticks.

"That's right, in the name of the lord's tax collector, I order you to ~~~." Todd was relieved to see the serfs quiet, but before he could come to his senses, a voice came, knocking his mood down the valley again.

"You're no longer my tax collector, so you can't order anyone in my name." Bruce shouted and walked towards the house, and the serfs automatically parted to let the young lord pass.

"Cloth, Bruce?" Todd saw Bruce through the window, and he was taken aback, wondering why the lord was walking side by side with the serfs.

"Todd, I've discovered your crimes, and if you still want to save your life, you'd better surrender." Bruce raised his chin and said to Todd, who was hiding in the house.

"My lord, I don't understand what you're talking about?" Todd quibbled that he didn't believe Bruce would find out his secret.

"Bring them in." Bruce beckoned, the blacksmith father and son escorted Yellow Fang and Scarface, and saw that his two servants who were escorting supplies to Locke Manor were tied up and kneeling at Bruce's feet, Todd's heart was cold.

Bruce smiled at Todd at the window, and he asked the blacksmith father and son to tie up Yellow Fang and Scarface's mouth, vaguely accusing Todd of the crime, like a seasoned fisherman, waiting for Todd to bite the hook.

"Uh, how is that possible?" Todd slid down from the window, his back against the wall, sweat pouring down his face.

"Master, don't panic, it's just to transport supplies to Locke Manor, this is something we have been doing before, even the lord can't make any accusations against the convention!" One of the bodyguards immediately comforted Todd.

"Yes, you're right, it's not a big crime at all, at most I will compensate the lord for the loss, and at worst I will expel me from the territory." Todd was relieved by the reminder of his subordinates, and this could not be blamed on him, he was awakened by the riot of the serfs when he was dazed, and the appearance of Bruce dealt a heavy blow to the legal basis of his rule, and anyone would be disorganized under a series of blows.

"Todd, confess your guilt immediately, and I will adjudicate your guilt fairly." Bruce promised Todd.

"My lord, I am willing to self-exile, please allow me." Todd swallowed, he deeply regretted that he had underestimated the boy lord, but at the same time he swore that once he escaped to Locke Manor, he would encourage Lord James to deal with the hateful boy lord.

"Yes, but you and your men must lay down their arms." Bruce shrugged his shoulders and promised Todd in the house.

"You must swear, swear by your bloodline and the glory of nobility." Todd licked his parched lips uncomfortably and swore to Bruce.

"Huh? Well, I swear by my Locke bloodline and noble glory. Bruce was a little surprised, he looked back at the blacksmith and the others, and felt a little funny in his heart, but he quickly said it out loud.

Hearing Bruce loudly swear by the glory and blood of the nobles, Todd finally breathed a sigh of relief, for the nobles blood and glory are the most precious things, swearing by these two things is undoubtedly a guarantee of amnesty.

"Squeak." The wooden door of the house opened, and Todd and his bodyguards walked out in turn, the bodyguards untied their weapons and placed them in front of the door, and they walked up to Bruce with their hands raised.

"Your Excellency, please keep your promise." Todd was bareheaded, revealing the baldness of the Mediterranean, and he lowered his head as if he had completely surrendered to Bruce.

"Todd, do you admit your guilt?" Bruce smiled as he asked Todd.

"Of course, I confess my guilt." Todd glanced at Scarface and Yellow Fang, and hung his head like a defeated rooster.

"Very well, Todd, you have been arrested for instructing your servant to assassinate your lord." Bruce gestured to the blacksmith and his son, who stepped forward and grabbed Todd, and Todd's bodyguards were also pushed to the ground by the serfs because they had lost their weapons.

"What, assassinate the lord, I, I didn't." Todd struggled and said, not because he was found stealing the lord's materials, but because of the crime of assassinating the lord, his heart was already as cold as an ice cellar, even if Lord James of the Locke family came in person, the crime of assassinating the lord would be enough for him to die ten times.

"You've pleaded guilty, and everyone here is a witness." Bruce stepped forward and patted Todd on the shoulder.

"But, you have sworn by your blood and glory that you will let me go." Todd struggled desperately, like holding the last straw, and said loudly.

"Oh, that kind of thing, who cares?" Bruce shrugged his shoulders, patted Todd's face, and said to him.

"You." Todd's eyes widened when he heard this, he almost thought he was having auditory hallucinations, the nobles didn't care about blood and honor? What kind of aristocrat is this?

Todd and his men were caught, and Bruce strode into the house, which was made of wood and no better than the lord's house, but it contained significantly more furniture and belongings than his own, not to mention that a maid had also confessed that there was a cellar warehouse under the house, which contained a lot of materials that Todd had looted.

"Ten sacks of wheat, thirty baskets of apples, twenty pieces of cheese, five pieces of iron, thirty pieces of wood, and a pot of silver." Bruce walked down the cellar and raised his torch to look at the piles of supplies inside, and it looked like Todd was really fishing in Glinton Village.

"All sealed for the time being, and from this day forth this house and servants will belong to the lord of Grinton, who is me, your new master, Bruce. Locke owned. As Bruce walked out of the cellar, he announced to the two maids and two manservants.
