Section 54: The Lord's Banquet

Countess Connie walked down the stairs, she asked Bruce, looking at Countess Bruce in front of him with a sense of déjà vu, but he hadn't forgotten the etiquette, and when the countess asked him what evidence he had, Bruce drew a sword from his waist.

When the sword was unsheathed, Bruce and the others heard footsteps, as well as the sound of armor rubbing and metal clashing, Bruce stopped drawing his sword and looked around the hall, and sure enough, as Anne said, there were soldiers in the dark corners of the hall.

"Stand down." Countess Connie raised her right hand and said to the soldiers emerging from the shadows.

Her voice echoed through the halls of the lords, and the soldiers who had come from the shadows returned.

"Scandium." Bruce pulled out his entire sword, which was the weapon of Shield Splitter, and he placed it horizontally in his hand and handed it to the countess.

"What is this?" The countess took the sword, and the women of the Middle Ages were not as portrayed in later generations, they were actually very martial and no strangers to weapons.

"This is the pirate leader's sword that slashes Danny's shield." Bruce said to Countess Connie.

Countess Connie looked at the sword in her hand, and she saw the inscription engraved on the sword, and she could be sure that it was a very special sword.

"Thank you, honorable Lord Greenton, I'm sure you've wiped out the pirates, but I'd like to see the pirate leader's head." The countess returned the sword to Bruce and said to him.

"I captured the pirate leader, alive." Bruce looked at the countess shrouded in black veil, she had a graceful and good figure, even if she was wrapped in a long black dress, but her slender white hands and charming voice all revealed that this was a mature and beautiful woman, looking at her Bruce had an urge to unveil it, but he resisted this impulse in his heart.

"Oh, I see, I'll pay thirty silver pesos to ransom this criminal who ravaged my territory, how about it?" The corners of the countess's mouth turned up slightly, and she thought that Bruce was bargaining with her.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not going to sell this captive." But Bruce shook his head, he had other plans for Shield Splitter.

Bruce's answer stunned the countess for a moment, she originally thought that Bruce wanted to raise the price, but she didn't expect him to refuse herself.

But she wasn't angry, the captive didn't matter, she just wanted to cut off the criminal's head in public so that she could swear her tough rule to the criminals in her realm. The countess clapped her hands and instructed the maids to prepare a banquet for Bruce and the others.

The banquet was held in the lord's hall, and several long wooden tables were carried in by the servants, and then the maids brought out the food from the lord's kitchen, and kept shuttling the food in the iron plate in front of Bruce and the others.

"Oh~." Edward looked at the hearty food, couldn't help but swallow his saliva, the countess's kitchen is not only jerky and other things, in addition to a roast suckling pork, the most surprising thing for everyone like a hillbilly is a roast swan, this elegant bird in addition to beauty, the important thing is that the meat of the swan is tender and meaty, it is a gift used by nobles to entertain distinguished guests.

Even Bruce couldn't help but sigh that Randall's countess was really rich, because he knew that in the Middle Ages in another world, the king of England had ordered that other nobles except the king could not eat swans, which shows the preciousness of this bird.

"Thank you for your hospitality, Countess." Bruce raised his glass and saluted Connie, Countess Connie, who was sitting in the master's seat.

"May the Lord God bless you, my guests." Countess Connie also raised the wine glass in her hand and toasted to Bruce and the others.

Just as Bruce and the others were about to drink, Bruce felt a pain in his instep, he almost didn't hold the wine glass, and some of the wine in the glass spilled, only to see Anne standing next to Bruce wink at him.

"If the countess wants you to drink, don't drink it." Bruce remembered Annie's words, which made him hesitate a little.

Bruce raised his glass and pretended to take a sip, but in fact his lips were not moistened, and he put it down, with a smile on his face as if he was satisfied, but when his eyes swept to the countess in the master's position, the countess with the black veil on her head could not see her expression clearly.

"It's a good wine, it's a good wine." Edward drank the wine in one gulp, and Bruce and Anne didn't have time to stop him, but Edward had no problem drinking.

Just when Bruce was a little relieved, suddenly, there was a sound of hurried footsteps from the gate, and I saw a squire hurrying to the countess's side, and he whispered a few words in Connie's ear, only to see Connie's body sit upright, Bruce had read from a book of micro-expressions, which represented the instinctive reaction of people who heard bad news.

"What's wrong?" Bruce touched his lips, his brow furrowed slightly.

"Ask him to come in." Countess Connie looked at the doorway, and she said to the squire.

"Who is it?" Eve and the others stopped taking food, and they also looked curiously at the door being lowered.

"Ping Pong Ping Pong ~~." As Bruce and the others looked at the gate, they heard footsteps, the sound of leather boots on the ground, long leather boots that only nobles could wear.

"Dear Connie, are you inviting guests today? Why don't you tell me so I can hunt a few deer and bring them to you. Entering from outside the gate was a middle-aged aristocrat wearing a blue turban, a blue striped velvet blouse, bright yellow and red trousers, and a pair of leather boots.

"Dear Ivan. Count Oscar, you are welcome to visit my castle, and your presence is truly splendid. Countess Connie stood up and said to the nobleman who walked in.

"Oh, looks like you're having some guests." Count Ivan glanced at Bruce and the others sitting in the hall, he had a smile on his face, but it was like he was wearing a mask.

"This is the lord of Grington, and he helped me destroy the pirates in my realm." Countess Connie sat down again, and made an inviting gesture to Count Ivan, who unceremoniously walked up to the countess and sat down close to her.

"Oh, Greenton?" Listening to the countess's words, Count Ivan was slightly stunned, and he shook his head in confusion, as if he didn't know anything about Glinton.

"Glynton is a fief of the Locke family." Countess Connie explained to Count Ivan.

"Count Ivan?" Bruce looked over to Anne.

"Ivan. Count Oscar was the ruler of Spencey, which borders Randallshire, and it is said that Ivan had been courting the Countess so that he could double his domain. Anne whispered to Bruce.

Bruce understood, it seemed that this was a suitor of a countess, and nobles often obtained land and wealth through marriage, and it was obvious that Count Ivan also had this intention, but the countess had a suitor in the name of Black Widow, which was indeed very surprising.

"Congratulations, you have finally eliminated the criminals in your territory, please let me pay tribute to this brave lord." Count Ivan picked up the wine glass on the table and said to Bruce.

"Thank you for your kindness, Lord Count." Bruce picked up his glass, and the two of them drank it down.

When Count Ivan had finished drinking, he ignored Bruce, and even glanced at the other people at the table with disgust, for he found that Eve and Stukov were commoners, and nobles usually did not sit down to dine with commoners, which was considered a degrading thing.

"Connie, you're getting less and less picky about your guests, why don't these civilians go to the kitchen?" Count Ivan said to Countess Connie.

"Huh?" Bruce frowned when he heard this, although Ivan was an earl, and he was higher in rank than himself, but he insulted his subordinates in front of him, what was going on?

"These are the men of Lord Grinton, who have done a great job in the suppression of pirates, so I specially invited them to the banquet." Countess Connie said to Ivan that her intention was to explain why Eve and the others were invited, but it was a little harsh to Bruce's ears.
