Section 55: Unreasonable Demands
Bruce stood up suddenly, and this sudden behavior surprised both Countess Connie and Count Ivan, because they didn't understand why Bruce was angry, and it was a common rule in this world that nobles did not sit with commoners.
"I'm sorry, thank you very much for your hospitality, but I still have some business to attend to in my territory, please allow us to leave."
Bruce bowed slightly to the countess and prepared to leave with his men, but Count Ivan stopped him.
"Wait a minute, if you kill the pirates, where is the head of their leader?"
Count Ivan leaned back on the wooden table, and he curled his fingers around the beard on his lips and said to Bruce.
"I have captured the pirate leader, and I have taken him to Greenton." Bruce said to Count Ivan, wondering why Count Ivan cared so much about the pirate leader.
"Hand him over." Count Ivan became serious, and he stood up and said to Bruce.
"That's my captive, and I shouldn't be obligated to give it to you, Lord Earl." Bruce looked at Count Ivan, whose arrogant attitude had already made him feel uncomfortable, so there was no need to be polite.
"I'll give thirteen silver pesos." Count Ivan stared at Bruce like a snake, he didn't believe that a little lord would dare to disobey his words.
"Are you being funny?" Bruce scoffed, the countess bid much higher than him, but none of them were redeemed from Bruce, let alone a mere thirteen silver pesos.
After saying that, Bruce pushed open the wooden table and walked towards the door, Anne hurriedly followed behind Bruce, Eve grabbed Edward, who was still stuffing apples and ham into his arms, and left, Stukov glanced at Count Ivan vigilantly.
"Please wait a minute." Suddenly, the countess shouted to Bruce.
Bruce frowned slightly and turned around to look at Countess Connie, only to see the countess snap his fingers and a servant came out with a money bag with a reward for completing the task.
"Remember, you will always be a friend of the Yule family." When the servant handed the money bag to Bruce, the countess spoke to Bruce through the veil.
"When did the Locke family become your friends?" Listening to the countess's words, Count Ivan said with a sneer.
"Remember, Dear Countess, that Grington's doors are always open for you." Bruce took the money bag, bowed to the countess and said.
Bruce mounted his mount, his face was a little bad, and Count Ivan's contempt stung him deeply, neither his brother nor the barons of the Locke family nor these counts took him seriously, thinking that he was nothing more than an insignificant country nobleman, which made Bruce eager to return to his own territory, to build his territory into a place that no one could take lightly.
"It's weird." On the way back to Greenton, Stukov muttered.
"What's wrong?" Bruce asked, hearing Stukov's words, riding on his horse and bowing his head.
"Oh, nothing, I just think it's a little weird." Stukov shrugged his shoulders as he walked after Bruce, the slow pace of the Greenton soldiers, who soon caught up with the group.
"Say it, Stukov, don't babble with me." Bruce immediately encouraged Stukov to speak out his doubts, and Stukov nodded.
"Actually, from the pirate's point of view, their lair stronghold is not the safest at all, you know, generally pirates will put their nest on the island, although it is a little inconvenient, but at sea is the pirate's own territory." Stukov said to Bruce.
"You mean that Danny was actually hired?" Bruce listened to the reins of his mount, and Count Ivan's strange behavior came to his mind, if anyone was the most suspicious, in terms of motive and ability, Count Ivan was the number one suspect.
"If that's the case, we have to be careful." Stukov touched his beard, although he had only one eye, he was not at all wary.
"Hurry up and get back to Greenton as soon as possible." Bruce commanded loudly.
Grinton's soldiers heard the lord's order, and although they didn't know what was happening, they obeyed Bruce's order.
"Dengdenden."
Just as the Greentons began their rapid march, the sound of horses' hooves came from behind them, and Bruce looked back alertly, only to see a wolf-headed banner fluttering behind him, followed by a group of knights, led by Earl Ivan, who wore a blue round cake turban.
"Let the spearmen and pestle men in front and the crossbowmen in the back, and keep on guard." Bruce whispered to Eve and the others beside him, and at the same time kicked the mount under his crotch and walked in the direction of Count Ivan.
"Yu~~." Count Ivan saw the Greenton man who had stopped on the road, he took the reins of Martin, and the mount under his crotch neighed and stopped, Count Ivan's mount was a red horse, and when he stopped, the horse snorted and scraped the dirt on the ground with its hooves.
"Lord Ivan." Bruce took the reins with his hand, and he looked directly at Count Ivan and the others, there were twenty people in this group, except for Count Ivan, who was dressed in aristocratic clothing, the other nineteen were all fully armed, and the knights were all dressed in fine leather armor, with long swords pinned to their waists, spears in their hands, and their faces were unruly.
"Lord Greenton, if you kill that group of pirates, you should have a sword, right?" Count Ivan caught up with Bruce and the others, but the first thing he asked was Danny's sword, which made Bruce curious, the sword was hanging on Bruce's waist at this time, when Danny and Stukov fought, Danny's sword actually split Bruce's sword in two, which shows the sharpness of this sword, so Bruce naturally pinned this sword as a trophy to his waist, replacing his ancestral iron sword that was cut off.
"Is there such a thing? I don't remember. Bruce frowned slightly, shook his head and said to Count Ivan.
"Hey, don't try to lie to me, Lord Greenton hand over that sword." Count Ivan sneered, the beard on his lips curled up, as if he was on the verge of Danny's sword.
"Never." Bruce couldn't take it anymore with the earl, and he loudly refused.
"Count Lord, allow us to help you get the sword." At this time, the knights behind Count Ivan raised their spears and shouted loudly.
"Soldier Greenton, fight." Bruce was also unceremonious, he raised his right fist and commanded loudly.
"Yes."
Grinton's soldiers shouted in unison, and the spearmen immediately stepped forward to block Bruce's front, clenching their spears and pestles to form a defensive formation, and the crossbowmen began to take out their crossbows and place them on the bowstrings.
"Stupid guy." Earl Ivan narrowed his eyes, he curled his beard under his lips with his hand, the soldiers of Glynton looked like poorly equipped levies, but behind him were well-equipped, powerful family knights, as an earl, he could support about a hundred knights, but this time he only brought twenty to Randallshire, but even so, the combat effectiveness of twenty knights was extremely strong.
Bruce looked at the knights behind Count Ivan, and he didn't have a score in his heart, don't look at his tough posture now, but he also knew that the knights' combat power was very strong, and without all preparations, this kind of encounter was likely to turn into a one-sided slaughter.
