Chapter 56: Zhuangzi's Morality and Virtue (3)

In the first story of the fifth chapter of Zhuangzi's inner chapter, "De Chong Fu", there is also a main content, that is, Wang Xiao's virtue - the method of dealing with the world.

Wang Xiao's method of dealing with the world is: to teach without words, and to do nothing in the world. His teaching methods were very different from those of Confucius, but quite the opposite.

Confucius's teaching method is to teach by word and deed, take the lead by example, let students and others follow behind, and if you can meet my standards, you will graduate.

One is to "teach without words and do nothing in the world", and the other is to teach by word and deed, and lead by example. Taoism and Confucianism are diametrically opposed to their philosophies, and as a result! "Zhongfenlu", the two have the same number of students. And! To each his own.

Therefore! Confucius's student Chang Ji was puzzled, so he asked Confucius, thus having the first story of "De Chong Fu".

At the end of "De Chong Fu", Confucius answered the question of the seasons and why it is possible to "teach without words and do nothing".

So? How can we achieve "teaching without words, and living in a world of inaction"?

To sum it up: enlightenment! Understand the road of life: know the position of people in the universe, know what people live for, and what they live for. Understand life and death, don't be afraid of death, know how to live, and wait for the great principles of life.

When there are no doubts in our lives, life is much simpler. No nonsense, no superfluous things. Don't? Isn't this exactly what "teaching without words and doing nothing"?

The second story in the Zhuangzi chapter "De Chong Fu" is also about a disabled person named Shen Tujia. This man was also a man who was executed, and his feet were cut off. He and Zheng Guo's children were all taught by Bo Du, and they learned Taoism.

Zheng Guo's son is a ruling minister, a great official, and a very famous figure in history. But he looked at Shen Tujia with the eyes of the world and looked down on people. And then! He was beaten up by Shen Tujia.

What does this story in "De Chong Fu" mean? How does it relate to the article as a whole?

It's obvious! Zhuangzi tells us through this story that virtuous people have nothing to do with status. It's not that you're virtuous because you're sound, and it's not that you're virtuous just because you're a big official. No! But! It depends on whether you understand the Tao of Taoism and accept Taoist philosophy.

Zichan made fun of Shen Tujia for being executed for his fault, while Shen Tujia said that he didn't want to defend himself, and in troubled times, you were accidentally tricked. The fact that you have not been punished does not mean that you are not at fault, but! You ran to the bullseye that Hou Yi was aiming at but was not hit by Hou Yi's arrow because you were lucky.

So! In this troubled world, don't measure whether a person is virtuous or not by "human virtue". This is nothing more than "human morality"! Not morality. In this troubled world, the standard of "human morality" is unreliable. Being a person who has not been punished does not mean that you have "virtue", but! You're in luck! You weren't shot by Hou Yi's arrow.

The second story is actually about the unreliability of the standard of "human morality", but asks us to learn morality.

Shen Tujia said: He was often bullied and angry. But as soon as he returned to the teacher's place, he was no longer angry, and he regained his composure.

"I don't know what Mr. washes me with good and evil?"

What did the teacher use to purge Shen Tujia?

There is no doubt that Shen Tujia was brainwashed by the teacher with Taoism.

The third story in the fifth chapter of Zhuangzi's inner chapter, "De Chong Fu", is about a man named Shushan who has no toes to meet Confucius.

Shushan Toe is also a person who has been tortured, and he can only walk on his heels.

Seemingly! The grading standards of the punishment are different, some people cut off their feet, some people cut off their legs, and some people cut off their feet.

When Confucius saw that Shushan Wutoe was a person who had been tortured, he sighed: If the son is not careful, if he has committed a crime, he will be in trouble. Even now, what is it!

It means that you are a person who is not careless in doing things, and because of this, you made a mistake and cut off your toes, which is why you have the consequences that you have now, and you have become a disabled person. Although you came to me today, you have come to ask me for advice, right? But! The past is irrevocable? You can't go back to the way you used to be.

In fact! Confucius was also honest, but Shushan didn't like to listen to it, so he left after justifying it.

Shushan Wutoe said: "I violated the criminal law in the past because I didn't understand the world, and I didn't protect my body, so I lost my toe, and I can't regret it." Now I have come to you because I still have something more precious in my heart than my feet, and I have a heart that is good, beautiful, and truth-seeking. So! I want to do my best to preserve it.

There is nothing in the sky that is not covered, everything is under the sky. There is nothing on the earth that is not carried, and all things are on the earth. I treat my husband as heaven and earth, how do I know that my husband is such a person, and he actually excludes me, which is so disappointing to me. ”

Why did Confucius exclude Shushan without toes?

Shushan Wutoe believes that what Confucius said earlier is that he is not perfect and is no longer a complete person. Whether it's a person's physical appearance or a person's moral character, you have a problem.

You have been tortured, you have become disabled, are you physically incomplete? The fact that you have been punished also means that there is something wrong with your character.

So! Shushan Wutoe didn't want to learn from Confucius anymore, and felt that Confucius's cognitive realm was not as high as his. So! He left Confucius and went to Lao Tzu to learn the Tao.

Why is Confucius's realm not high?

Shushan Wutoe believes that Confucius looked at people and life from the height of sociology, but did not look at life from the height of Taoism.

Although he was a punished man and was at fault, wasn't that all in the past? Who hasn't made mistakes in their formative years?

Am I not? Am I trying to make amends, to learn the Tao, to understand life?

Furthermore! As a human being, as a species between heaven and earth, am I still alive? Since I exist between heaven and earth, there is no one who can exclude me. Heaven and earth can tolerate me, how can you not tolerate me?

What is the third story about?

It is mainly said that Confucius looked at things and life from the perspective of "human morality", rather than looking at life and world affairs from the perspective of "Tao" morality.

Starting from the third story, "De Chong Fu" talks about morality and morality, and talks about morality.

Shushan told Lao Tzu about his experience and views without toes, and Lao Tzu said to him, why don't you take this opportunity to preach to Confucius? Can you tell him about the Taoist concept of life and death? Let him understand life?

Shushan replied without toe: "Heavenly punishment, An Ke solution!" ”

This is the punishment he gave himself, it is called the 'heavenly punishment', where can others help him to be freed?

Lao Tzu sighed: "Alas! Opinionated people are like this, they know that they are wrong, they just don't admit it, and they find all kinds of reasons to justify it. It's really not easy to get them to understand. Right! 'Heavenly Punishment'! This is the punishment of heaven! Heavenly punishment, safe and clear! ”
