The Eleventh Age, Xuanyuan Yellow Emperor Chapter 4 Cangjie Characters

"The mountains are green, the sky is blue, the life and the white water of Yangwu, the Yang Hou Gangshi of Huashan, the eyes and pupils have been fresh since ancient times. Cangjie is the head of the clan, and I take the lead in the king, who fights for the emperor's life with Dacang, and passes the pass of Cangjie first. Hahahaha------"

"Okura! You sing very well, but what should you say about what you sing in this song? These words are drifting around like the wind, we can't see it, we can't touch it, it doesn't know us, we don't know it, can you catch one and let us see? ”

"Wife, you don't understand, don't I know a few 'characters', I just caught one, my 'can' surname was made for myself. It is noble, it can represent the king alone, the person under the king, the person above the king. ”

"Oh, husband, it turns out that the picture you drew on our gate is a 'word'? Is that the word "倉頡"? That's your last name, huh? ”

"That's it! How smart do you think I am? ”

"Hey, hey! No shame, you can really boast of yourself! ”

The sun of Huashan, the bank of the Baishui River, the mountains and rivers are beautiful, and the grass is green. Cangjie talks and laughs with his wife. They were strolling leisurely along the sunny mountain paths.

Cangjie originally only had the surname "Hou Gang", and the single name was a "Jie" character, Hou Gangjie was the leader of a small tribe in the later period of Emperor Yan. Their tribes are distributed in the southern region of Huashan, and they have "Yangwu" as their capital. Later, after Cangjie saw that the Yellow Emperor was proclaimed emperor, he also established himself as the emperor and was known as "Emperor Cang".

In fact, in the early days, no matter whether it was a surname or a first name, they only knew the pronunciation, and they didn't know what words were used in the pronunciation, even when they usually spoke.

Everyone understands every word they often say, and they all know what it means. But they did not know what words to use to express these words, because there were no words at that time.

It is not absolute to say that there was no writing at that time, because writing appeared as early as the Fuxi era. Emperor Fuxi had already created some simple writings, but those writings were not widely circulated and did not spread to the people.

In addition, with the passage of the sun and the moon, most of the writings at that time were lost, except for a few people who know a small part of them. Because people at that time were still struggling with hunger, they didn't have the heart or time to learn these things about words.

For example, when people see the wind, they say it's windy; When someone sees it raining, they say it's raining; When people see a mountain, they say it's a mountain; When people see water, they say it's water; When they saw the sun, they said it was "the sun." When you see the moon, you say it's the "moon".

However, when everyone said it, they also knew in their hearts what they were saying, but they didn't know that the words could be expressed in a symbol. And it is none other than the one who opens the door to this text again, he is the Cangjie of our Hougang tribe.

At that time, when Cangjie was fine, he liked to take people to hunt or play on Yangxu Mountain near Yangwu. Although Yangxu Mountain is not high, the scenery is good, and Cangjie they often forget to return here.

Once, Cangjie found a large stone on Yangxu Mountain. There are a few characters written on this stone, among which there is a character for "person" and also a character for "Jun". Because these characters are all hieroglyphs, the content of the writing can be recognized by scrutinizing Cangjie.

So Cangjie thought, it seems that the king is the biggest in this world, why can't I be bigger than the king? Thinking of this, Cangjie combined the two words Jun and Ren Zi, and it became the word "倉" above the king. After that, he took this character as his surname.

Another time, Cangjie took the people of the tribe to hunt, and they chased the prey all the way, and they actually ran to the tribe of the Yellow Emperor Alliance. Now they were caught by the people of the Yellow Emperor tribe.

The man who grabbed Cangjie threatened to kill him, and Cangjie begged for mercy again and again. However, the person who captured him had a bad temper, saying that they were here to invade the Yellow Emperor's tribe, and that it was useless for him to beg for mercy, so frightened that Cangjie began to cry.

On this day, the Yellow Emperor happened to pass by here, and when he saw that the arrested person was extraordinary, he was crying here, and the Yellow Emperor was a little strange. Moreover, the Yellow Emperor also found that all the people who were arrested with Cangjie were around him, and the Yellow Emperor expected that this person was different.

After interrogation, the Yellow Emperor learned that this person was the pretentious Emperor Cang. The Yellow Emperor looked at Cangjie's embarrassed appearance and felt really funny.

The Yellow Emperor asked Cangjie: "Cangjie, it seems that you are not small, and you dare to make a surname to threaten me, and you want to stand high above the head of my Yellow Emperor." I think there are other things in this world that can make me admire except for Emperor Yan, don't mention your two moments. ”

Cangjie said: "Yellow Emperor, this shows that there are people outside the world, there is a sky outside the sky, and there is no shortage of capable people under the big sky." It is natural for all of us to admire Emperor Yan, but you Yellow Emperor also dare to stand up and want to rule the world by yourself, which will make people unconvinced. You must know that there is nothing strange in the world, if you are a wise man, let everyone give full play to their own wisdom. You can't ignore everyone's strengths and bury talents from all walks of life. I'm a tribal leader in Cangjie, and you Yellow Emperor don't hold on to the power alone, wouldn't it be better if we could govern the world together and build a better future together? ”

When the Yellow Emperor saw Cangjie, his words were sonorous and powerful. Looking at his eyes and pupils, he knew that he was a smart man, and the Yellow Emperor wanted to leave him to help him do things.

The Yellow Emperor smiled and said, "That's it! Cangjie, since you are a tribal leader, I will not kill you. There is also a shortage of a historian in my palace who records daily on a daily basis, so you can be my chronicler. ”

After the world was basically stable, a new country began to take shape. In the face of this embarrassing situation of poverty and whiteness, all walks of life are also in urgent need of a large number of particularly outstanding talents.

At this time, the Yellow Emperor couldn't sit still, so he discussed with his ancestors, first to formulate a good national policy, but also to advocate the people to vigorously develop agricultural production, in order to promote the rapid development of various undertakings.

In order to improve the quality of people's lives as soon as possible, the Yellow Emperor and his ancestors first practiced hardship as happiness. The Yellow Emperor has traveled all over the world, carefully selected and invited a large number of very capable talents, and asked them to assist the Yellow Emperor in doing things for the country.

At that time, when they went to various places to select talents, the Yellow Emperor and his ancestors also walked through thousands of rivers and mountains, and experienced thousands of difficulties and dangers. Fortunately, their hard work was not in vain, and when they dealt with the leaders of various tribes, they found many people with special abilities.

Just like Fenghou, Limu, Cangjie, Chang Xian, Dahong, Lilou, etc., they are all people with extremely high skills, and they are all important humeral wizards in various tribes.

Many of them turned out to be the leaders of the tribes, or the people who were very capable of doing so in the tribes. After they were invited by the Yellow Emperor to the capital of Zhuolu, they were all appointed as the chief ministers of governing the country and the people.

The Yellow Emperor placed these people with special talents in different positions, and put them in charge of different technical creation work in various fields.

Since the Yellow Emperor got acquainted with this Cangjie from Baishui, the Yellow Emperor arranged for him to manage the livestock, grains, food, utensils, and storage of the tribute from various tribes, and Cangjie gladly accepted the invitation.

Cangjie is not only smart, but also very serious. When he started to take charge, Cangjie used the method of knotting ropes to record things. For example, if people bring ten chickens, he ties ten knots in a rope that specifically registers the number of chickens. Bring five more, and he will tie five more.

They brought eight scoops of grain, and he tied eight knots on the rope on which the grain was recorded. And when they brought him seven more scoops of grain, he tied seven more knots in the original rope. When Cangjie records other things, he also uses this method, and so on.

In the beginning, since Cangjie faced very few things every day, he carefully placed every rope that recorded things in an orderly manner. For all the accounts, he also has a spectrum in his heart, and he remembers it clearly, and he is relatively easy to do things at this time.

However, as the territory of the Yellow Emperor continued to expand, the population of the entire tribe also increased. There were also some prisoners or property captured by disobedience to discipline and handed over to Cangjie to manage. He was a little overwhelmed.

As a result, there was a relative increase in livestock, grain, and other items that people paid tribute. In the face of these huge things, Cangjie at this time seemed to have a hard time doing things, and he often turned the previous accounts upside down and confused.

Whenever Cangjie saw the knots all over the ground in a mess, his heart was also in chaos. It is also impossible to distinguish which knot represents which purpose. At this time, he will lose his temper in a frustrated manner, which will also make everyone very unhappy.

In the past, it was possible to use knotted rope to record things by rote, but now this old method no longer works. In addition, the Yellow Emperor saw that Cangjie was capable, and increased the workload for him, which made Cangjie miserable.

One winter morning, before the snow had melted in the mountains, Cangjie followed a group of people to hunt deep in the mountains. They searched around the mountains for a long time but did not see a single prey.

Just as everyone was about to walk back, several old men suddenly shouted, it turned out that they had all found the hoof prints left by the beast on the snow.

One of the old men said, "Now let's go east, and we will soon meet an antelope if we go east." ”

Another old man also said: "I think we should go north, and we can catch up with the deer not far from the north." ”

The third old man was also anxious. He said: "You still have to listen to me, if we go all the way to the west, we will definitely catch up with the two tigers, if we don't kill them in time, maybe we will miss the opportunity." ”

Seeing that the three old men were fighting over each other, Cangjie asked the old people how they could say such a thing. The old men told him that they had only thought so by looking at the footprints of the beasts on the ground.

Cangjie looked down, he looked east, and saw that there were several rows of the same hoof footprints all the way to the east. He looked further north and saw a dense pattern of another hoof print heading north. Cangjie looked west and saw two rows of thick plum hoof prints walking straight west.

Cangjie understood now, and he was suddenly overjoyed in his heart. I thought to myself: Since every footprint represents a beast, why can't I use a symbol to represent the things I manage? Thinking of this, Cangjie asked everyone to continue hunting, and he himself happily pulled out his legs and ran home.

Cangjie was inspired by the hoof prints this time, and suddenly remembered the words left by Emperor Fuxi on Yangxu Mountain. He knew that this was how the words of Emperor Fuxi were obtained. And this kind of special symbol that records things is specially designed to represent the characteristics of things.

So, Cangjie thought: Why don't I draw these pictographic things one by one, as a kind of text symbol that everyone can understand at a glance and can be easily used. If you create such symbols and teach everyone to use them to record things, it will be much more convenient if there are things that need to be recorded in the future.

From then on, Cangjie began to do this thing, and when he did anything in the future, Cangjie paid attention to careful observation, because he wanted to make pictograms as soon as possible to facilitate everyone.

Later, Cangjie unexpectedly met several erudite old men from other tribes, all of whom came to seek refuge in the Yellow Emperor. Cangjie heard from them that they had scattered pictographs for a long time, and that the people there called them "words".

It is said that the characters they know were founded by Emperor Fuxi that year. The old people said that they also drew a few words on the ground. Cangjie was very happy to see it, and he took the trouble to humbly ask the old people for advice.

Inspired by these words, Cangjie learned first-hand materials for making characters from old people, but Cangjie was still not satisfied with the status quo, so he embarked on a journey to find the source of words. Over the past few years, Cangjie has accumulated a lot of new word origins.

Later, on the basis of Fuxi's character creation, Cangjie carefully observed all things in heaven and earth. Everywhere Cangjie went, he never missed any opportunity to learn. He always did not forget to ask people for advice, observing objects, landscapes, and things along the way, looking for the precious written relics left by Emperor Fuxi back then.

Through the observation of the sun, moon, stars, human body, facial features, limbs, as well as cows, sheep, pigs, dogs, horses, chickens, tigers, leopards, wolves and other beasts, birds, mountains, water, light, fire, large, small, more, less, heaven, earth, high, low, etc., Cangjie really knew and understood all kinds of objects, substances, things and their forms.

Cangjie carefully studied and systematically analyzed the various forms of these objects, and created a more visual hieroglyph than the previous hieroglyphs of Emperor Fuxi.

The words are made, but where are they written? It is written on a large stone and cannot be picked up, and it cannot be moved. It's the same with trees, and it's even worse with animal skins.

In order to prevent the loss of the text, the text must be recorded in a medium first. The best thing to do was to burn it with something hard, so Cangjie had someone sharpen a sharp stone knife for him.

Cangjie tried to use a stone knife to carve these words on the stones, on the trees, on the branches. Later, Cangjie found that it was most practical to engrave characters on animal bones. So, Cangjie asked the Yellow Emperor to prepare some animal bones for him. Practice has proved that the words engraved on animal bones are the most convenient to use.

On this day, Cangjie was carving words by the river, and suddenly a big turtle climbed up from the river. Cangjie saw that there were many neat cracks on the turtle's back. He thought that it would be better to carve the word "turtle" on the back of the turtle according to its shape.

Cangjie was afraid that the turtle would escape, so he carved the words as soon as he grabbed the big turtle. The big turtle was safe at first, but then it was stung and crawled into the river and fled.

Three years later, still by the river, someone caught the big turtle again, and they found that the words on the back of the turtle were still clearly visible, and the words were bigger and more obvious.

So Cangjie told the Yellow Emperor to give an order that anyone who caught a beast must hand over the beast bones to Cangjie. If someone catches a large turtle, he must remove the turtle shell and give it to Cangjie for him to use for engraving.

Later, Cangjie gave a lot of animal bones and turtle shells engraved with words to the Yellow Emperor, and the Yellow Emperor was very happy to see it, so he called the words engraved on the animal bones and turtle shells "oracle bone inscriptions".

Cangjie finally succeeded in making words, and the Yellow Emperor was happy, not only gave Cangjie a great credit, but also gave him a very domineering surname - "Shi Huang". This surname actually represents that Cangjie is the first imperial literary and historical official of the Yellow Emperor, and since then, Cangjie's family has become the "Shihuang family".
