Chapter 712: The Fourth Release of Ding Hui Pin
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! This method of mine is based on fixed wisdom. Don't make the mistake of thinking that there is a difference between Dinghui and wisdom. Determination and wisdom are one, not two. It must be the body of wisdom, wisdom is the use of wisdom, and when it is in wisdom, it is in wisdom; When it is in the concentration, the wisdom is also in the concentration. If you understand this truth, you will be practicing the wisdom equally. Therefore, those of you who are studying the Buddhist path should not say that you can attain wisdom before you are determined, or that you can attain concentration before you become enlightened. Holding this view means that there are two phases of representation. Although he speaks good words in his mouth, he has no good thoughts in his heart. In vain, there is the name of determination and wisdom, but it cannot be held by wisdom and so on. If the heart and mouth are good, and the inside and outside are the same, then concentration and wisdom will be equal. Self-enlightenment, self-cultivation, is not about arguing; If you argue in order, it's the same as an obsessed person. If we can't get rid of the heart of winning and losing, we will inevitably increase our attachment to law enforcement, and we can't stay away from the attachment of the four phases of 'me, people, sentient beings, and long-lived'.
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! What is Dinghui like? Just like lights, with lights there is light, and without lights there is darkness. The lamp is the body of light, and the light is used for the lamp, although there are two names, the body is originally the same. The same is true for Dinghehui. ”
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! The so-called one-line samadhi is to be able to walk upright in all places, whether walking, living, sitting or lying down. The Sutra of Pure Names says: 'Straight heart is the dojo, and straight heart is pure land.' 'Don't just talk about righteousness in your words, but your heart is flattering and wicked; Don't talk about samadhi with your mouth and don't walk straight with your heart. As long as your heart is upright, don't be attached to all the Dharma. Foolish people cling to the Dharma, clinging to one line of samadhi, and when they open their mouths, they say that they often sit still and do not have delusions and distractions, and this is the line of samadhi. Those who make this kind of view are like wood and stone without emotion, and they are actually the cause of obstacles to the path of cultivation.
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! The Tao is to flow, so why is it hindered? If the mind is not stagnant in the Dharma phase, the Tao will be able to flow; If the mind is attached to the Dharma, it is called cocooning and self-bonding. If it is said that sitting still is a line of samadhi, it is like Sariputta meditating in the forest and being rebuked by Vimalaya. Good knowledge! There are also people who teach people to meditate, to look at their minds, to visualize stillness, not to move their bodies, to think about their minds, and to work hard from here. Foolish people don't understand the general idea of the Dharma, so they cling to it, but instead they become upside down, and there are many people like that. It is a great mistake to teach others in this way. ”
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! Originally, there was no gradual distinction between Orthodoxy, but because of the difference in the fundamental nature of human beings. Those who are foolish gradually practice, and those who are enlightened suddenly come to their senses. If you can know your own heart and see your own nature, there will be no difference. Therefore, there is a pseudonym of 'ston'. ”
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! Since the patriarch of the previous generation, my method has first established 'non-mindfulness as the sect', 'non-appearance as the body', and 'non-dwelling as the foundation'. The so-called non-phase is to be in all phases and separate from all phases; The so-called non-thinking means that although the mind is not attached to the thought; The so-called non-dwelling is the nature of our human being. For the good, evil, good, ugly, and even relatives in the world, when there is verbal offense, sarcasm, or bullying and strife, they are all regarded as empty illusions, and they will not think of revenge. In the thoughts, do not think about the past realm. If the previous thoughts, the present thoughts, and the later thoughts, and the thoughts are continuous, and cannot be broken, it is called bondage; In all the Dharma, the mind does not cease, so that there is no bondage, and this is based on non-dwelling. ”
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! If there is no aspect outside, it is called non-appearance. If it can be separated from all phases, then the self-nature dharma body is naturally pure, which is to take the non-phase as the body.
Good knowledge! In all realms, the mind is able to remain untainted by external circumstances, and it is called thoughtlessness. In your own mind, you should always stay away from all external circumstances, and do not have thoughts in the realm. However, if you cling to nothing and don't want to think about anything, you cut off all your thoughts, and if you cut off your thoughts, you will die, and you will have to go elsewhere to be reborn, which is a great mistake. Those who study the Tao should think carefully about it, if they don't know the general idea of the Dharma, they will be wrong, and then they will mislead others. He was foolish and did not see the truth, and slandered the Buddhist scriptures. Therefore, it is necessary to establish non-thought.
Good knowledge! Why do you make no thought a sect? Just because those who are obsessed with the nature of their words still have thoughts in the external world, and when they think about them, they will have evil views, and all the delusions of dustiness will arise from this. There is no way to attain Bodhi's own nature, and if you think that you have gained something and talk about good and bad things, this is an evil view. Therefore, this method should establish non-mindfulness as a sect. ”
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! What is nothing? What is the so-called recitation? The so-called nothingness is the undifferentiated appearance, and there is no heart that sees dust in vain; The so-called thought is to think of the truth as one's own nature. Truth is the body of thought, and thought is the use of truth. It is true that it is self-acting, not that the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and other organs can read. Truth is like the nature of self-nature, so it can be thought with the cause; If there is no self-nature, the color of the eyes and ears will disappear and scatter at the moment. ”
Master Huineng said to the people, "Good knowledge! When the true self-nature arises with the dependent thoughts, although the six roots have the awareness of seeing and hearing, the true self-nature will not be stained with all realms and can always be at ease. That's why the Sutra of Pure Names says: 'Good can distinguish all dharma aspects and remain unmoved in the first truth.' ’”
