The Eleventh: Change the name of Tianzhu to India, express your heart and parting (I)

"What is the matter with him?" Master Xuanzang couldn't help but have a trace of doubt.

"This King of Kumoro admires the mage, and the mage, your name is earth-shattering, and your prestige spreads far and wide, so I feel that he should have been ordered by this King of Kumoro to get closer." Wang Xuance said to Master Xuanzang with a smile while flipping through the Buddhist scriptures that had just been translated.

"Haha, everyone who comes is a guest, since he has already come, let's invite him in." Master Xuanzang turned around and instructed the little novice; He turned around and walked to Wang Xuance's side, and said to him formally: "From a rigorous point of view, the title of Tianzhu should be changed from today onwards, it should not be called so, it should be called India."

"Why, this has been passed down for many, many years, why should it be changed? Stamp...... Degree...... How do you write these two words? Wang Xuance casually put down the scriptures, and asked Master Xuanzang for advice with a lot of doubts.

So, Master Xuanzang picked up the pen and wrote down two block letters in a dignified manner: "India".

Looking at this delicate word, Wang Xuance only knew that the word India was originally written like this. And in this translation academy, some of the apprentices who were working could hear their conversation and also looked at the two words written by Master Xuanzang. Except for a few disciples of his own lineage, everyone was also full of doubts about this Tianzhu and changing it to India.

Looking at everyone's puzzled expressions, Master Xuanzang smiled and explained to them: "It is precisely because we have been misnamed for many years that we should change it." Speaking of the title of Tianzhu, I, the debate machine and other disciples have carefully scrutinized it over the past few days. I found that our Middle-earth recorded Tianzhu at the earliest, and it should be called India at this time. It's not right, at that time, it was still called body poison, and it was also called Xiandou...... Ah...... Forget it, all in all, this is the place! ”

This is a variety of nicknames for India, and Master Xuanzang also felt very entangled, so he shrugged his shoulders and smiled helplessly. With his laughter, it immediately caused all the disciples to laugh happily. It brings a different sense of humor and a different lightness to the very boring and tedious work of translating the scriptures. In an instant, not only did the atmosphere of this lifeless translation academy become a lot happier, but also the mood of the disciples was much more relaxed, and their spirits were also a little more energetic.

"Dare to laugh as a teacher, work hard". Xuanzang once again talked about these disciples with humor.

"Mage, just let them rest for a while, see if they are tired," Wang Xuance also gaged and continued.

"Wang Changshi, you have been fooled by these children again, do you think they will not stop?" In a word, everyone leaned forward and laughed.

"If that's the case, if you don't know, then listen to the teacher's details" Master Xuanzang paused for a moment, straightened his robe, and then said to them: "The word India is willing to be Bharata, which originated from a country established by a king named Bharata in ancient India. Ancient Indians used the word faith to mean river, so India originally referred to the Indus Valley as a large area. Later, with the spread of culture and religion, it gradually included the large area of the Ganga River (Ganges) to reach the entire five India today. The first person in my Middle Earth to know about this country should be Zhang Qian of the Western Regions of the Han Dynasty. ”

Listening to Master Xuanzang's words, everyone who was quite fascinated by it also nodded again and again.

"Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, in the second year of the founding of the Yuan Dynasty, sent Zhang Qian to the Western Regions, and when he was in the Great Xia Kingdom, he heard that there was another country in the far south, called Body Poison. And this body poison should be a relatively accurate record of the pronunciation of India at that time, but it was translated into the word body poison, which also reflects Zhang Qian's overall impression of India described by the Bactrian people.

In the fourth year of Yuanzhen, Zhang Qian was ordered to send a second envoy to the Western Regions, so he sent someone to contact the poisonous country, and brought the envoy of the poisonous country back to Chang'an, although Zhang Qian had not been to India, but his subordinates arrived in India.

At this time, although the ministers of the Han Dynasty also had some intuitive understanding of India, after all, they were preconceived, and since they had the title of this poison, it was not easy to change it.

In the period of Emperor Ming of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the name Tianzhu appeared in the history books to replace the body poison; In fact, this is not an accident, but a partial consensus reached with the deepening of exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries.

From the perspective of transliteration, the Sanskrit word dharm or dharma in Buddhism should be quite similar to the pronunciation of the Chinese character "竺" at that time.

The pronunciation of "竺" at that time should have been 'DA' or 'DU'. Translated as Tianzhu, it means "West Heaven Buddha Country". It also reveals what people knew about India at that time.

Today, however, Buddhism in India is far less than it used to be, six out of ten countries believe in paganism, and many Buddhist texts have been lost in Wutianzhu, which is why the king of Kumora sent an envoy to welcome this "Mahayana Theory of Belief".

Therefore, today's Tianzhu is no longer the Buddha Kingdom of the West Heaven, and I have a Tang Dynasty with a variety of titles, since it is faced with so many objections and disputes, it should be in accordance with the Sanskrit Sindhu. Wouldn't it be better to translate it directly as "India". Moreover, the Sanskrit word India means the sun and the moon, which is more appropriate. So, in the future, please call it India, don't call it Tianzhu anymore."

Wang Xuance listened to his explanation, not only the head of the Tao, but also the order. So he respectfully bowed to Master Xuanzang and smiled deeply: "Only."

So, there is such a record in the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty: the name of the translator Tianzhu, dissent disputes, Guiyun body poison, or Xiandou, now from Zhengyin, Yiyun India.

Not only Wang Xuance, but also this group of disciples were also deeply impressed by this explanation: it should indeed be so, only unification can be passed on for a longer time. At this time, there was a man who had been quietly listening outside the door for a long time, and this person was Sharma, the envoy sent by King Kumora.

It turned out that this little novice obeyed Master Xuanzang's instructions and led Sharma to this scripture translation hall. When he was about to enter, he heard Master Xuanzang talking about the reason for translating the word India. On the one hand, he couldn't bear to disturb his Yaxing, and on the other hand, he also wanted to hear the origin of the word India, so he grabbed the little novice and signaled him to wait for the time being.

After hearing Master Xuanzang's explanation, I felt that the explanation was quite reasonable, and the translation was very appropriate. So, he walked into this scripture translation hall and said in standard Tang Chinese: "Sharma, the envoy of the East Indian State, has seen Master Xuanzang"
