Chapter 21: Listen to the Master's Stories and Worship Sincerely (Part II)
"The old monk took you to see a pagoda this time, which was built in the place where Prince Siddhartha Gautama and the Shakya people tossed elephants in a competition of strength." Master Xuankong replied to Chen Maocai casually.
"What, what threw an elephant, how did you throw it, this power is so great?" Zhou Zeng asked again in surprise.
"Big brother, you are so stupid, the power of the Buddha is naturally incomparable to us ordinary people, if there is such a great power and wisdom of the Buddha, each of us can become a Buddha" Xiao Bodhi still had a little childlike fun, teasing Zhou Zeng......
This little Bodhi's words are very right, if we all have so much strength, what else can we try, so once again for Zhou Zeng's feeling that if you say too much, you will lose, aroused everyone's laughter.
The Xuankong Master, while guiding everyone along the ruins, said to them, "Prince Siddhartha Gautama has always been versatile and outstanding. When he heard that he was about to return, he ordered his servants to go out of the city to meet him on elephants. At that time, Prince Siddhartha Gautama had a cousin named Devadatta. This Devadatta was born at 10 o'clock on the 7th of April, and was 1 foot 5 feet 4 inches long, and he was also quite intelligent, not only powerful, but also good-looking, not inferior to the prince Siddhartha Gautama. When he was returning from the outside of the city, he saw the servant of the King of Pure Rice hurrying out with the elephant, so he stopped and asked, "For whom is such a splendid elephant to ride?" Why are you in such a hurry? ”
The servant knew that he was the most noble, so he hurried back: "Siddhartha Gautama, the prince is about to return, so the king ordered me to go out of the city on an elephant to meet him."
When Devadatta heard this, he was immediately displeased, and at the same time, in order to give the prince a little color, he took the servant down with his hand, took the elephant by the hand, and struck him on the head with all his might, and kicked him in the chest, and in a short time the elephant fell to the ground, already dead, and instantly blocked the way into the city. Seeing such a scene, he smiled slightly and walked away...... Leaving behind a weird smile that kept echoing in the sky......
"This Devadatta you are talking about is the elder brother of Ananda, the two great disciples of the Buddha," Zhou Zeng followed the words of Master Xuankong.
"Hey, you kid, I'm finally smart for a while" Chen Maocai looked at Zhou Zeng, who was quite excited this time, and answered like this.
"Exactly, this Devadatta is the elder brother of Ananda, and when the Buddha attained enlightenment, he took 500 Shakya people from this city of Lumbini, and finally after the Buddha's enlightenment, all of them attained enlightenment, and they were all part of the 500 people," Master Xuankong then explained.
Hearing his words, everyone nodded again and again; Walking and talking here, I not only spoke the head of the way, but also listened quite thoroughly.
I only listened to this Xuankong master, and then said: "Because of the huge size of this elephant, it blocked everyone's way in an instant, and more and more people gathered, many people wanted to move him and make the road smooth, but unfortunately, no one could move it." Later, one of the Buddha's childhood friends, Nan Shao, came. Watching this scene, I asked, "Who killed this elephant?"
The people all replied in unison: "It was Devadatta" and when they heard this, they immediately dragged the elephant to the side of the road. The road was much smoother, and he dispersed with most of the besieged people.
At this time, Prince Siddhartha Gautama came back, and when he saw such a scene, he asked some of the people who had not dispersed, "Who did this bad thing and killed this elephant?" ”
The people, who had not dispersed, humbly replied, "It was Devadatta who did it, and it was Devadatta who brutally killed the elephant so that the city gate was stopped, and then he came to his place, so he dragged him to the side of the gate and made the road clear."
Hearing the onlookers' reply, Prince Siddhartha of Gautama at that time had already understood a general idea of the matter, he knew these two too well, and it must have been this Devadatta who was jealous of his father's courtesy, so he killed the elephant. So he smiled slightly, and lifted the elephant with his hand, and then threw it so vigorously that the elephant flew over the walls and ditches, and then fell to the ground, and at the same time smashed a huge deep pit. This is what became the elephant fall pit, and this pit still exists today. ”
And in the midst of the words, the people came out of the gate.
Under the guidance of Master Xuankong, they also saw this huge elephant falling pit, never thought that after so many years, this pit still exists, everyone is shocked, although this story has some mythological elements in it, but it is enough to show that it is precisely because of the wisdom of the Buddha that people were jealous, there was such a result...... In life, wisdom is good, but we must have a tolerant heart, not to show the edge, which is why the Buddha was able to influence these people later, the simplest and simplest answer......
Then the master of the void led them to a small ashram next to the elephant pit, which was originally the residence of Yajendhara, the wife of Siddhartha Gautama. Later, with the abandonment of the dormitory, like the previous ones, later people built such a small retreat here in order to commemorate it.
The two statues of the gods enshrined in this ashramus, one is Yayindra, Yayindra is a very kind and beautiful princess, she has silently supported the prince since she followed Prince Siddhartha Gautama, and after the prince became a Buddha, he deliberately returned to the country to transform this kind wife.
Yajendhara is a very remarkable person, her virtue, her kindness, all helped the prince before and after his enlightenment, without her, Prince Siddhartha Gautama would not be able to travel through the four gates, it was Yajendra who persuaded the king of pure rice with her sincerity to let the prince out of the city, and there would be a later prince with four gates.
At the same time, this Yajendhara was the biological mother of Rakura, a great mother, who independently raised Rakura, taught him, and loved him, so that Rakura could grow up healthily. When she was fifteen years old, both mother and son were ordained monks, so she was also the first bhikshuni and the first novice. From then on, she helped the Buddha in this life, completing the binding, arrangement, and repair of the scriptures, and at the age of about seventy-six, she was buried in Nirvana and buried with the ashes of the Buddha, and later, the ashes of Rakura were also buried with her parents.
Later, in order to commemorate their mother and son, they built this ashram here, and the two statues in it are Yajendhara and Rakura. And this ashram next to this ashrama is the former site of Prince Siddhartha Gautama's school at that time, and the statue inside is the scene when he was studying.
Having said that, Wang Xuance and others, just like that, once again observed the Buddha in detail, but saw that he gently picked up the three sticks of incense, and once again sincerely did this prayer......
