Chapter 1: Another Dudley
Harry felt that today was his lucky day.
Growing so big, he had fantasized countless times that someone would be able to pick him up from Uncle Vernon's house, but never thought it would be this way.
Following Hagrid, he felt that his eyes were not enough.
Compared to the Muggle world, everything in Diagon Alley is so new.
He saw a fat woman standing outside the drugstore, and as he and Hagrid passed by, the fat woman shook her head and said, "Dragon's liver, seventeen sirty an ounce, they're crazy!"
Then they passed by a shop selling owls, and from inside came a low, soft whining.
He also saw several boys of his age looking at the contents of the window, which was filled with delicate brooms, with the tip of their noses pressed against the tip of their noses.
Harry was sure the brooms weren't for sweeping floors.
In addition to this, he saw shops selling telescopes and all sorts of strange silverware that he had never seen before, shops with baskets of bat spleens and eel eyes in their windows, and charmbooks, quills, rolls of parchment, medicine bottles, and lunar globes.
However, as he and Hagrid approached a shop selling robes, a cry of surprise suddenly came from inside.
"Honey, you're three inches taller than you were last year!"
He subconsciously looked into the store and saw a boy who looked slightly older than him standing on a footstool with a dissatisfied face, and a chubby witch next to him was measuring him.
There was also a man and a woman standing next to her, and the woman looked full of surprise, it should be the one she shouted just now.
Glancing through the glass, he realized that he was a little far behind Hagrid, so he had to speed up his pace and catch up.
......
Coming out of Gringotts, Harry felt like he had never been richer.
His left and right pockets were full of gold gallons, and Harry felt that even Dudley had never been as rich as he was now.
Hagrid suggested that they go buy school coats first, and they walked to the gown shop they had passed earlier.
When they got there, the young man was no longer there.
Instead, there was another pale, thin-cheeked, light-blond man, who, after a brief exchange, Harry found unlikeable.
Just take him to the robes shop, Hagrid goes to the Leaky Cauldron to drink and refresh himself, and Harry has to endure the boy's noise alone.
When Hagrid returned and shook the ice cream at him through the glass, the boy spotted Hagrid immediately.
Then, he spoke a lot of bad things about Hagrid, and Harry began to hate him.
After buying the robes, they went to buy everything that was on the list of equipment and the book list.
Including this holly wood in his hand, the phoenix tail feather wand.
Harry thought their trip to Diagon Alley was coming to an end, but Hagrid's face immediately turned red when he suddenly offered to buy him a birthday present.
No one had bothered about his birthday present since the day he could remember, and every time it was a birthday, Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia simply ignored its existence.
Eventually, they went to the Ellaowl store.
There, Hagrid had selected a snow owl for him, with snow-white feathers, and was quietly sitting in the cage for a nap.
After that, Hagrid stayed to settle the bill, and Harry stood in the doorway waiting for him.
Then, finally, he saw again the boy he had first glimpsed as he had first passed by the robes shop.
The boy's parents were talking loudly, and even from a distance, Harry could hear a single word.
"What do our little Carls want for a birthday?" said the boy's mother.
"Son, why don't we buy you a new light wheel 2000? The boy's father said.
Harry didn't hear the boy's answer, he could only see the look on the boy's face a little dissatisfied.
Probably not too happy with the gift, Harry thought.
Another Dudley.
He wanted to hear which of the boy's birthday gifts was more expensive than Dudley's thirty-six gifts this year, but Harry couldn't hear the rest of the story.
Hagrid walked to the door after settling the bill, and when he saw the boy's family in the distance, he suddenly said, "Oh, oops!"
With that, he took Harry back to the store.
"Hagrid, who is that boy? you seem to be avoiding him?" asked Harry curiously.
"How so?" Hagrid gave Harry a feeble look, then looked outside, and immediately retracted his head.
Hagrid squeaked for a moment at Harry's curious gaze before he said, "He's Carl, your future Hogwarts classmate, in his second year this year. β
Harry looked out and saw that the boys' family were still there.
"You'd better not be friends with him. Hagrid couldn't help but say.
Harry looked back at him quizzically.
"He's not that easy to get along with," Hagrid dodged Harry's gaze, "I mean, he's a bit of an odd personality. β
"Weird?" asked Harry, confused.
Judging from the conversation I just heard, the boy named Carl was just a spoiled guy by his family, and he might be a little difficult to get along with, but he probably had nothing to do with eccentricity.
At most, it's about the same as Dudley, Harry thought.
"Well, you'll find out soon. Hagrid coughed to hide his embarrassment, "I mean, you'll meet at Hogwarts soon, and you'll know him by then." β
With that, he said no more, urging Harry to leave.
By the time they came out of the store, the boy named Carl was no longer there.
I didn't expect anyone to have the same birthday as me, Harry thought, but he should be a year or two older than me.
Also, Hagrid seemed to be a little afraid of him.
......
Hogwarts was driving through the countryside with his whistle blowing, and Harry felt that his ten years of suffering had paid off in the past few days.
He managed to escape from Uncle Vernon's house, then became a wizard, and now made his first friend.
Everything was like a dream.
Somehow, however, perhaps because it was the same birthday, he remembered the boy he had seen in Diagon Alley.
"Ron, have you heard of a guy named Carl?"
"Of course! Fred and George had a good relationship with him, and I thought he was a very strange man. Ron said as he ate his.
"Strange, why do you say that?" said Harry, wondering, remembering Hagrid's assessment, and the two were strikingly consistent.
Ron shrugged, "I saw him once in Diagon Alley a year ago, and he wasn't very gregarious at that time, and he only knew that he was sitting there alone and reading. β
Ron unraveled a chocolate frog, "Later, he went to Hogwarts and was assigned to Gryffindor, and it didn't take long for him to have a nickname, and everyone called him 'Gryffindor Outlier'." β
Seemingly content to be listened to, Ron gushed, "His family seems to be rich, and he gave Charlie the Halo 2000 last year, and the Halo 2000 was still a limited edition at the time! You don't know, Harry, he's famous, almost as famous as you!"
As he spoke, Ron took out a few elaborate cards from his pocket and handed them to Harry.
When Harry saw it, he was immediately captivated by the beautiful drawings on the card.
The first one depicts a strange man with a dog's head, and he can move, squeaking at him.
In the middle of the card is a line written by Kobold Geodiviner, underneath: Spell Damage +1.
He also noticed that all the cards had a blue crystal drawn in the upper left corner with a number written on it.
However, some of the cards have numbers in the lower left and right corners, and some of them don't.
"That's what George and Fred didn't give me," Ron sighed, "unfortunately there aren't tables, they need tables to play, but that's too expensive for me to afford." β
As he spoke, an angry look on his face, "George and Fred have it, and there's a whole set of cards, all golden, but they never lend me to play." β
When Harry returned the cards, Ron continued:
"He invented this game, and just last year, when he was in first grade, you can't imagine how popular it is!
It's a pity there's no table, otherwise you'll be able to see how it's played, I've seen George and Fred play a few times, and it's justβ"
Ron opened his mouth, seemingly unable to think of any adjectives.
But from his expression, Harry could tell how much Ron envied his two older brothers.
After a while, Ron finally returned to reality, "But, as the inventor of this game, he is not very popular." I mean, it's not that people are actively rejecting him, but he just doesn't fit in. β
Looking at Harry's puzzled eyes, Ron explained, "You should be able to understand that if he didn't take the initiative to reject others, everyone would like him a lot, but at school, he seems to be two friends, George and Fred. β
As he spoke, Ron seemed to remember something again, "This summer, George and Fred seemed to have brought back a lot of money, and even Mom and Dad were shocked, it must have been earned by selling games with that guy at school before, but George and Fred never told me how much they earned. β
