Chapter 11: The Temple of Glaciers
On the glacier, as in the southern part of the heath, the wind was bitterly cold, and even worse, the wind blew on the face like a knife.
With his right hand on crutches, Vane lowered his head and walked forward step by step, slowly approaching the undulating iceberg. As he walked, he searched for the Glacier Temple, not missing a single possible location.
Vane thought a long time about the location of the temple along the way. The best way to build a temple on a glacier in a harsh environment is to build it in a tall cave if it is to ensure longevity. But there doesn't seem to be a big cave on the iceberg, could it be that the entrance to the temple is buried by snow?
A cold wind blew, and Vane felt like he had no clothes on. The cold air burrowed into his clothes, freezing his upper and lower teeth and fighting. He gritted his teeth and walked forward against the cold wind.
The heavens seemed to favor Vane, and after climbing a gentle slope several hundred meters long, a large arched cavern mouth gradually appeared in front of his eyes.
After seeing it for the first time, Vane was almost certain that this was the entrance to the Glacier Temple. The cave is almost halfway up the slope of the mountain, twenty or thirty meters high, and the entrance of the cave with a width of more than fifty meters is particularly conspicuous in this iceberg.
What is puzzling is that the snow outside the cave entrance is very flat, and there is no sign of stepping on it. Could it be that Elena and the others hadn't found this place yet, or maybe the wind had smoothed out the footprints, or maybe it wasn't the entrance to the temple?
The moonlight reflected off the snow turned the inner walls of the cave blue. Vane entered the cave on his right side with a cane, and the whole world immediately became quiet, and the cold wind was blocked from the hole.
After a long journey, Vane's physical strength had long since been exhausted. He tossed his cane aside and sat down against the cave wall.
Looking up, the entire cave is tall and empty, and the visible inner walls are crystal clear and covered with thick ice.
The Frozen Cave is on higher ground, and from where Vane sits, you can see the glacier and the forest at night. The blue-to-black night sky was filled with stars, even more than in Obojar or Casali.
But Wayne was not in the mood to enjoy the scenery at this time, the ice cave was not warmer than outside, and the extremely low temperature made Wayne shiver. Vane leaned his stiff hands together in front of his eyes, lowered his head and exhaled hot white air, the warm feeling from his palms made him feel much more comfortable.
Unlike outside, there is very little snow on the ground inside the ice cave, only a thick layer of ice. The further you go in the ice cave, the darker it becomes, and you can't see the depths at all.
But soon Vane's eyes lit up, and he staggered to his feet, walking deeper into the ice cave, stopping a few seconds later.
In front of him was a red totem more than a man tall, almost the same as the one seen in the northern elf village, only thicker and taller. Vane then discovered multiple identical totems, separated by more than ten meters in front of them, evenly arranged in two rows, forming a passage into the depths of the cave.
Suddenly, Vane stepped on something, and the thing slid backwards, and Vane lost his balance, waving his hands a few times and falling heavily to the ground. This time he choked enough, Vane's entire face was in close contact with the ice, and a warm liquid flowed out of his nostrils, and he lay on the ground for more than ten seconds before slowly getting up.
Vane walked over to the thing and was about to kick it away to vent his anger, only to find that it was a small magic lamp!
This flat round magic lamp is very light and strong, and it is a popular style in recent years. And the magic energy lamp in front of him didn't have many traces of use, and a few broken magic energy stones glowed pale blue from the special glass cover.
"Click. With the flip of the switch on the lamp, the magic stone burned, and the blue light illuminated the surrounding area of a few meters, and Vane's mood calmed down a little.
It seems that someone has already been here, but it doesn't look like Felder and the others. Who the hell is it and what are you doing here?Vne frowned, holding a magic lamp in one hand and a sapphire staff in the other, and slowly walked towards the depths of the ice cave.
After a few more totems were crossed, a spectacular structure appeared in front of it. It is a temple with elven architecture, almost the width of the cave, and is cleverly integrated with the cave walls, or the temple is embedded in the cave walls.
The temple was largely intact, but there was a two-meter-square hole in the middle of the huge stone door that had been closed, as if it had been deliberately vandalized, and large and small pieces of stone were scattered everywhere.
Vane carried the magic lamp and stepped into the temple through the broken stone door.
The temperature in the temple was a little warmer, but it was still cold. The first thing you enter is a small passage with large stone slabs on the floor. After the glow of the magic lamp illuminated the surroundings, Vane's eyes couldn't help but widen.
The ground in the passage ahead was cracked by rubble, and a dense network of arrows was stuck diagonally, and more arrows were broken from the middle and lay on the ground. At the angle at which the arrow hit the ground, Vane looked at the walls on both sides, and sure enough, he found multiple hidden weapon emitters on them. It's an ancient defense technique, but it's also very effective.
It can be seen from the fact that the arrows are submerged in the stone slab, and the firing power of the arrows is strangely large, why is there such a deadly hidden weapon in the sacrificial temple? What is even more strange is that it seems that these arrows did not hurt the visitor, but were broken as if they had hit the steel plate.
The ground was covered with dust, and everything in front of me should have been years in the past. But Vane couldn't take any chances. He cast a magic shield on himself and walked forward tentatively.
Dozens of meters long, Wayne walked for a full five minutes. Luckily, there were no arrows or any other mechanisms, and Vane, who had come to the end, breathed a sigh of relief.
But Wayne was dumbfounded when he walked into the room at the end of the passageway. Unlike the temple's appearance, which is tall and majestic, the space inside the temple is a little too cramped.
The room was square, no more than ten meters long and wide, and was made of huge white bricks. Vane walked around the room with the magic lamp, but found no passages around, except for a square altar in the center, and the room was empty.
It's such a strange place, the northern elves have gone to great lengths to build a temple on a glacier, but there is nothing in it. Elena and Felder......, what are they doing here? Vane felt uneasy.
When he first heard the news of Elena and the others, Vane was too excited to think carefully about the old man's words, but after calming down, he found that there were many unreasonable things in those words, and there was no trace of human activity along the way.
But why the old man deceived himself, this is completely inexplicable. Vane was caught in confusion and contradictions.
"Goo-goo-goo......-goo Vane's nerves tensed instantly, and he looked at the altar, the only thing in the room.
Vane lifted the lamp and slowly approached the altar.
The altar is pyramidal in shape, less than two meters high, with steps leading to the top in all four directions. The altar is also made of gray-white bricks, which have long since turned yellow due to age.
The sound of "grunt" continues. In the pale blue light, a slender object was slowly rising from the top of the altar.
