Chapter 10: The Forest Fight
The undead creatures seemed to be held back by an invisible barrier to the southern part of the moor, and Vane hadn't encountered those disgusting rotten bones since leaving the village.
After about ten minutes of walking north, sparse trees began to appear on the tundra, and the air became colder.
As we went deeper, there were more and more trees around, but there was little grass on the ground, mostly a green or red moss. The trees here are mostly thin and tall, with many twisted branches and few leaves, intertwined to form a large complex web.
It was getting dark, and judging by the slightly golden light around it, it should have been dusk.
Vane walked through the woods with a compass. Not only did he have to find a route through the dense bushes, but he also had to watch out for the slippery moss beneath his feet – it was not pleasant to fall on the rocky frozen ground.
"Squeak!" a brown-red squirrel leaped not far above Vane's head, jumping from one branch to another. While the branches were still shaking, the squirrel was already holding its nut food and burrowing into the hollow.
In the distance, an owl made a strange call, as if it were sending some ominous signal.
The bare branches of the trees are combined into all sorts of strange patterns, with fangs and claws of demons, and skulls of mad people...... As you move your footsteps, so do the patterns. The more Vane forced himself not to think about it, but the thoughts seemed to linger in his head.
"Boom la la ......" As Vane passed by a bush, a flock of crows fluttered their wings and flew up on a nearby branch, startling him.
I don't know if anyone else has already made it through this forest, it's really eerie and scary, and the surrounding feeling is getting stranger and stranger. Vane felt uncomfortable, like someone was watching him in the dark.
The cold air made him wrap his clothes tightly, but his mind couldn't help but think wildly.
When I was a child, I heard from the adults in the town that the forest was inhabited by ghosts that would transform into friends or relatives of the intruders to confuse them or control their consciousness so that they could never get out of the forest. And those who die and become ghosts will also be trapped there forever, becoming accomplices of the ghosts.
Vane thought about it and couldn't help but quicken his pace.
The surrounding light was getting dimmer, and the fog shrouded in fog made walking harder. Vane was already weak and had to slow down at this time.
There was an eerie silence all around, save for Vane's wheezing and the grinding of the leaves of his shoes. But if you listen carefully, you don't know when there will be more "rustling" sounds.
Vane stopped in front of a tree nearly a meter wide, and he felt that his legs were too heavy to lift, so he sat down against the trunk to rest. Soon his eyelids began to close uncontrollably, but the danger emanating from the forest made him open his eyes immediately. After repeating this several times, Vane closed his eyes longer and longer, and his mind began to fog.
At this moment, a distinct "rustling" sound sounded from behind him. Vane opened his eyes, and almost at the same time, a huge snake head appeared in front of him!
The head of the snake is roughly triangular in shape, and the whole is dark green. Beneath the obsidian eyes, the long letter trembled, almost touching Vane's face, and a fishy smell came to his face.
Vane suffered a cardiac arrest for half a second, and his face turned pale. He subconsciously wanted to run, but found that his body could no longer move, and the feeling of oppression followed.
It is impossible to know how long this python is, but it must have been more than ten meters, and its bucket-thick body has black markings. The python moved very quickly, and it only took two or three turns to completely wrap up Vane's upper body.
Death in the belly of a snake?
The python's smooth scales slid past Vane's body, and the bucket-thick body wrapped him tightly. Vane's arms were no longer moving, and all that was left was his legs kicking on the ground.
The python didn't seem to be in a hurry to swallow him, but would continue to increase the intensity of the winding like a towel. As the python's body twisted more and more slowly, Vane's face became flushed. He felt his ribs being squeezed and deformed, his eyes glazed over, and the suffocating fear came over him.
"Roar ......" At this moment, a low roar came from the front, and the surrounding leaves were shaken and fell one after another.
The python seemed to be very afraid of this roar, and the next moment Vane felt his body loosen, and the whole person fell to the ground limply. The python decisively gave up on Vane, turned his head and drilled into the forest behind.
Not far away, a brown bear more than three meters tall raised its forepaws and roared again. Its forepaw hit the ground with a heavy blow, and it sped towards Vane.
Vane, who had just gasped for breath, couldn't get up at all, so he could only close his eyes and lean against the tree and pretend to be dead.
The ground trembled slightly, and soon a gust of wind blew, and the surroundings were quiet again, and the brown bear ran past Vane. Vane subconsciously touched his face, let out a long breath, and let go of his hanging heart.
In an instant, a rapid and low roar came from behind him. Vane struggled to prop himself up with his hands, and stood up against the tree to look back.
There was a clearing more than ten meters behind, and the brown bear pressed the tail of the python with its forepaw, and the python's body was tightly wrapped around the brown bear's neck.
One bear and one snake are so deadlocked. The brown bear kept roaring and tried to shake off the python around its neck, but to no avail. The python became tighter and tighter, like a calm cold-blooded killer.
But all this is just an illusion. The python's attack could only end there, its strength was not enough to suffocate the brown bear, and certainly not to swallow it. The brown bear roared and stood up, its sharp claws on its forepaw piercing the python's body in an instant, and bright red blood gushed out.
The python hissed with its mouth wide open, and its body was forced to let go of the brown bear's neck, only to be bitten by the brown bear, and blood gushed out. Soon the python fell weakly to the ground, and was trampled under the paws of the brown bear.
Vane really wants a piece of the pie, and the grilled snake meat should be a rare delicacy. Wayne saw that the brown bear's face was covered in blood and food, so he quietly turned away. He wasn't sure he could kill a brown bear, and more importantly he didn't want to kill a brown bear that had saved his life, whether intentionally or not.
......
For the rest of the journey, Wayne took his steps as lightly as he could, becoming more cautious.
At some point, a layer of broken ice had formed on the ground, and the bright moonlight reflected a little light on it. The fog is already very thin, and the presence of the fog is no longer perceptible just by looking closely.
After another long hike, the trees in front of me thinned out without warning. The ground was covered with a thick layer of ice, and many messy and dry branches hung silently from the trunks of the trees.
Vane found a hard branch around him, barely enough to use as a crutch. With the help of crutches, Vane soon came to the edge of the forest.
What catches your eye is a world of ice and snow.
Under the deep night sky, the entire glacier is like a world that has been sealed for years, as if no one has ever set foot on it. The undulating icebergs in the distance, which are not very tall, seem so mysterious that people can't help but want to explore them.
This must be where the Glacier Temple is located, Vane thought as he looked at the snow-covered mountains. His hair and eyebrows were covered with a thin layer of ice mist, his face was pale, but his eyes were extremely hot.
At last, he walked forward with a determined step.
"Squeak...... "Two lines ......of footprints were left on the snow on the surface of the glacier.
