Chapter 6: The Strange Girl

The biting cold made Wayne's body shiver for a moment before he stopped. As he expected, the passage connected the wasteland to the underground caverns.

Vane didn't know how long he had been in the underground cavern, and the fog around him was a little thinner than before. Judging by the surrounding light and the somewhat clammy air, it's more likely to be early in the morning. It seems that he has fainted for a long time.

The surroundings were very quiet, only the constant sound of the wind, and those disgusting undead creatures seemed to disappear completely.

Vane pulled out his miniature compass and began to recall the scene at noon yesterday. His shadow was on the right-hand side when he turned his back to the sea, which meant that he was in the southern part of the wasteland at the time, which was not exact, but it should have been about the same.

With a staff in his right hand and a compass in his left, Vane slowly walked north against the cold wind.

......

On the stormy sea, west of the Duchy of Lucan, a fishing boat begins its busy day.

It was early in the morning, and it wasn't quite dawn. The sky was a somewhat grey dark blue.

"Look, Dad, there seems to be a city in the sky!" said a teenage boy on the deck of a fishing boat as he raised his head and pointed to the sky in the distance.

"What nonsense! come and help prepare the nets!" reprimanded the middle-aged man standing at the stern of the boat.

The boy pouted and reluctantly walked over and began to get busy, but the middle-aged man silently walked into the cockpit. Soon, the ship slowly moved away from the looming shadow in the sky.

And thousands of meters in the sky, a gorgeous city is silently suspended in the clouds. Vast atops of violet towers of varying heights make this small city seem mysterious.

In the center of the city is a large tower, and in a circular room near the top, a middle-aged man reclines back in a chair, his feet folded on a carved purple wooden table, and a black velvet cloak hangs behind the chair.

If anyone who has studied wood will be shocked to see this scene, their jaws will fall to the ground, and purple shirt wood is a good material for making staffs, and it has been made into a table, and people have put their feet on it!

The man seemed to be preoccupied, staring at a shabby pan flute in his hand in a daze. Strangely, the pan flute turned out to be the same as the one given to Vane by Minister Rostry, only in a darker color.

"Knock knock. There was a knock on the door.

"Come in. ”

The wooden door covered in gold leaf was pushed open, and five people entered.

The five of them don't seem to have much in common, there are middle-aged people with fat figures, and there are also dry and thin old men. The only thing that is the same is that the eyes that look at men are full of respect.

The man put away the pan flute in his hand and put it in his jacket pocket. He stroked back his long, curly black hair, revealing a sculpted countenance, but the delicate face was full of weariness.

"Looks like everyone is here. The man spoke. "I didn't expect us to meet again, and I thought we would spend the past thirty years as leisurely as those guys before. ”

He didn't seem to want to make the atmosphere better, and said in a very serious tone: "I think you have also learned a lot about the situation recently, and the continent of Lafrey is already in danger. As members of the Eleventh Generation Magic Council, all we need to do is to help the Magic Guild's rice buckets reforge the order of the continent!"

The Magic Council is a secret organization independent of the Mage's Guild, consisting of six archmages who are used to deal with disasters, and normally change members every thirty years.

The five people gathered around the table watched him silently.

The man seemed to feel that something was wrong, took the foot off the table, stood up and said, "Is there something wrong?"

"Speaker, I've been fishing for more than ten years, and the spells are a little rusty. ”

"Speaker, can you get me a staff? ”

“......”

"Stop, stop, you have to figure out these things yourself. So, I announce that the Magic Council is officially launched starting today!"

Soon, the room was quiet again.

"Old friend, what's the matter with that student of yours?" said the man to himself, as a black-and-white owl suddenly appeared in his hand. His hand raised slightly, and the owl flapped its wings and flew out of the window......

On the edge of the Everfree Forest, east of Obojar, a two-story wooden house sits in a clearing. If Vane were here, he would have recognized that this was the residence of the Dark Mage they had inadvertently broken into that night.

At this time, as soon as the sky was faintly light, a black figure emerged from the woods and hurried towards the wooden house.

The "squeak......" door was pushed open.

The black shadow froze in place, and after a long time, he spoke, "It's you?"

"I have a business to talk to you about. The man sitting at the table turned around and said. Her face is hidden under the hood.

......

Above the wasteland, Vane walked with difficulty. His hands and feet were numb, and his whole face was stiff.

I don't know how long it took, but the fog gradually cleared, and the frozen wasteland ushered in the sun again.

"How big the hell is this place...... Vane said secretly, licking his chapped lips. The body becomes tired due to severe dehydration. At this time, his steps were vain, and his eyes were dull. The warm sunlight shone down on his body, causing his eyelids to fall all the time.

There seemed to be some construction ahead, but by this time Vane's body had begun to strike. Just sleep here, he thought, at least the frozen ground seemed better than the gravel.

It seemed that a long time had passed, and in a daze, Vane seemed to hear the voice of someone talking.

"Big brother, big brother!" Vane struggled to open his eyes, and a figure appeared in front of him.

"Big brother, are you awake?" said a young girl, crouching beside Vane, her voice crisp and pleasant. Seeing Vane wake up, she took out a bowl of water from a wooden basket on the ground and handed it to Vane's mouth.

Vane felt a fever all over his body, and he sat up, took a few sips of the bowl, and drank it. The cool water made Vane feel much more refreshed, but he didn't know why there was a smell of sulfur around him. Brimstone is a commonly used magical herb, so Vane is very familiar with this particular smell.

"Thank you. Vane returned the bowl to the maiden and looked up at her. The girl's pair of pointed ears suggests that she may be an elf, but she doesn't look like a common elf. From a human point of view, the girl is about fourteen or fifteen years old, with fair skin and a sweet appearance.

"Do you live around here?" Vane asked. The presence of elves in this place made him feel incredible, and he knew that elves generally inhabit forests.

"Our village is right in front. The girl pointed to the north and said.

Sure enough, there seemed to be a village in the direction she was pointing, and a forest beyond.

"Come with me, big brother, my grandfather would be glad to know that the guests are coming!" said the girl, her big eyes blinking with a flutter.

I don't know why, looking at the girl's eyes, Vane couldn't help but agree. A wave of heat began to spread through his body, causing his heart to beat inexplicably.

Vane quickly withdrew his gaze, a little ashamed of the strange feeling he had made.

"There must be something wrong with my body. A voice said.

"No, you're a man who likes the new and hates the old. Another voice said.

“......”

"That's enough!" Vane yelled.

"Big brother, what's wrong with you?" asked the girl with wide eyes.

"Ahem...... It's okay, let's go. Vane coughed to hide his embarrassment and said hurriedly. It's just that he didn't dare to look at the girl anymore.

The girl picked up the basket and walked forward, a wicked smile inadvertently appearing at the corner of her mouth.
