Chapter 7: The Elven Village of the North
Vane walked after the girl, and the mini-compass showed them heading north.
The surrounding area was barren, and the sandy land was frozen like an iron plate. The sun hid in the clouds at some point, and the sky was gray, and occasionally a few small animals ran away or burrowed into the hole at a high speed.
"Do you know what the fog is all about?" Vane asked. The cold air kept burrowing into his clothes, and he wrapped them tighter.
"You'll know when you get to the village. The girl sighed and did not look back, her tone a little sad.
About half an hour later, the two arrived at the entrance of the village. The village looks small, surrounded by a fence made of sharpened wood. Tall houses are scattered among them, and a large forest is not far behind the village.
The maiden continued with Vane along the crooked road towards the village.
Most of the houses on both sides are a mix of stone and wood, and the houses are tall, most of the doors are more than two meters high. The house has some elven style, such as carved stone pillars and large white rocks, but in terms of refinement, it is much less than the elven buildings Vane has seen before.
Many houses have one or more red stone pillars at their entrances. It appeared to be an ancient totem, made of some kind of blood-red rock, with intricate patterns and indecipherable text carved on the surface. Vane had heard that some ancient races had a tradition of totem worship, and they believed that there was a divine sense in the totem that protected the gods, and that they had the mystical power to protect the tribe.
There are many torches made of pillared rocks more than one person tall on the side of the road, and it is sure to be a beautiful picture when lit at night.
What is slightly unpleasant is that there is a faint smell of sulfur everywhere. Maybe it's some kind of tradition of theirs, Vane thought.
Several villagers stood on the side of the road and waved to the girl when they saw her. The girl responded politely, and there was a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Only then did Vane know why the houses here were built taller, most of these adult elves were more than two meters tall, and they looked burly, unlike the elves Vane had seen.
But Wayne always felt that there was something indescribably strange about this village.
Wait, quiet? Yes, it's very quiet around, and I haven't seen any livestock even after walking for a long time. This is not surprising, perhaps the people of the village depend on fishing and hunting for their livelihood. But strangely, none of the villagers who greeted the girl spoke, their expressions were dull and their bodies were a little stiff, as if they were performing a pantomime.
Thinking of this, Vane couldn't help but feel his hairs stand on end and his back was cold.
"Is it almost there?" Vane couldn't help but ask. The strange scene unnerved him.
The girl said a soft "um" and stopped talking, and walked forward on her own.
Just as Vane considered whether to turn around and leave now, the girl stopped.
"Big brother, we're here. The girl said in a sweet voice.
When Vane looked up, it was a tall, single-story house, not unlike anything he had seen before. It's just that...... The stench of sulfur is even more pronounced.
Now that you're here, let's go and have a look first, maybe we can find out the whereabouts of Elena and the others, and no matter how bad it is, we can have a mixed meal.
In his thoughts, Vane followed the girl into the house. The house has only one floor, which is divided into several rooms, and the furnishings are relatively simple, mostly some simple tables, chairs and wooden cabinets.
In the middle of the house stood an elven elven elder. He was slightly hunched over, with a cane in his hand, a bushy white beard, and eyebrows sticking out from either side like a beard.
"Grandpa!" the girl put down the basket and ran to the old man, grabbed his arm and said coquettishly, "Grandpa, you see, there is a guest coming. ”
"Okay, Lisa, go get some food ready. It's been a long time since our village had a guest. The old man said with a smile. After saying that, he stepped forward and patted Vane on the shoulder with his hand: "He is a magician at a young age, and he can escape from the fog, and his future is limitless. ”
"Ahem......" The old man's hand was very strong, and Vane was slapped and coughed.
"Have you seen anyone about my age in the past two days...... Humans?" Vane asked, relieving his breath.
"I said our village hasn't had a guest for a long time. The old man shook his head.
A look of loneliness flashed in Vane's eyes.
"What the hell is going on with all those fogs?" Vane wanted to ask the villagers why they didn't speak, but after thinking that maybe they had something unspeakable, it was a bit rude to ask.
The old man sighed, as if lost in thought. After a pause, he said in a somewhat hoarse voice, "We are a northern elf race, and we have lived in this wasteland thousands of years ago. The fog seems to have been around for a long time, but at first there were no undead creatures in the fog. It's just that ...... later"
"What happened next?"
"I don't know when, some white monsters began to haunt the wasteland. Whenever they appear, a large number of undead creatures appear in the mist. ”
Vane nodded thoughtfully, but still had doubts in his mind. First of all, those white ghosts don't look like they know black magic, and why make that trap, since they can manipulate a large number of undead creatures, is there anything to be afraid of in this wasteland?
"Our people are adept at crafting magic weapons and hand-to-hand combat, but once entangled by undead creatures, the White Imps have ample opportunity to cast evil spells. The old man continued. "Under the threat of white ghosts and undead creatures, our people are getting fewer and fewer......"
The old man rambled on a lot, and Vane was a little dizzy from hunger at this time. At that moment, the girl named Lisa brought a plate of hot food.
On the table in front of him was a plate of cooked meat, and Vane thanked the two of them before grabbing a piece of meat and putting it in his mouth. It may be that the meat has been left for a long time and has some rotten taste, but it can finally fill the stomach.
"Young man, can you help us get rid of those terrible white ghosts?" asked the old man.
"Big brother, help us!" said the girl. She clasped her hands in front of her chest and looked at Vane with bright eyes.
Vane didn't want to say yes, no one wanted to go into the cavern and face those terrible monsters again. But I don't know why, when he saw the girl's gaze, he immediately agreed.
Later, the old man and the maiden sent Wayne to the entrance of the village and watched him leave.
"Master, your illusion seems to have improved again. The girl looked at the direction where Vane's back disappeared and said sweetly, the pupils of her eyes turned purple red at some point, and there was an indescribable enchantment.
"Lisa, you're doing well, but those imps are so bad, they don't look like they don't speak, they are like the rotten bones out there. The old man said and glanced at a few sluggish "villagers" next to him.
A burst of yellow smoke came out of the northern elves, and they turned into several small monsters more than half a meter high. At first glance, they look somewhat like goblins, but they are thinner than goblins, with fiery red skin covered in barbs and a pair of black curved horns on the top of their heads.
"Master, why would it be more interesting for that little magician to get rid of those threatening white ghosts, and just turn him into a skeleton mage?" the girl chuckled, covering her mouth.
The girl's body was changing rapidly, her innocent face was becoming seductive, and her slender body was plump and tightly wrapped in revealing leather. Two purple-red horns grew from the top of its head, a pair of bat-like brown fleshy wings protruded from its back, and a slender tail constantly flapping the ground. The girl was actually transformed into a succubus.
Succubi are a legendary type of demon that usually has a feminine appearance and can use charm spells to seduce men for their own ends.
"If it weren't for that strange cavern that the undead couldn't enter, those abominable northern elves would have become part of my army of the undead. As for the magician, if he makes it back alive, I have more important things for him to do. The old man said grimly.
As soon as he finished speaking, his cheeks were completely sunken, his eyes turned into two black holes, and his wrinkled skin became dry and cracked, revealing his white bones......
