Chapter 929: Bodhisattva Dao

To study Buddhism is to learn to be a very ordinary person, to follow the rules and do things honestly, and how to benefit and help others in that environment is practice. Don't be weird, close your eyes all day long, as if you are very godly, what are you doing? To truly practice the bodhisattva path, although to show greed, but to give up everything inside and outside, and sacrifice oneself at the cost of one's life, is the true bodhisattva path.

"Showing the destruction of the forbidden and abiding in the pure vows, even the petty sins are still fearful." Those who practice the bodhisattva path sometimes appear to have violated the vows everywhere and destroyed the precepts, but in fact they are more obedient than the precepts, and they dare not even the slightest negligence.

"Show anger and patience." Even though in anger, but with great compassion in the heart, and forbearance of everything, these are all bodhisattva tantras.

"Show slackness in your deeds, but practice merit diligently." It looks lazy on the outside, but in fact, it is always in the center, and there are many such examples among the Zen patriarchs of the past dynasties. He cultivates merit in concentration, how to cultivate? This is a bodhisattva's tantric practice, not something that we can understand. He may incarnate and become all kinds of beings to make merits.

"Show chaos and always think about it." On the outside, it looks like a hectic person, not like a practitioner, but the real Dharma is settled in the hectic part of your day. It's okay to eat all day long, and to cross your legs here is actually in distraction, and instead of merit, it's a crime.

"Show foolishness, and reach the world to bring out the wisdom of the world." It looks stupid on the outside, but there is all the knowledge in the world, and wisdom is the first. When you move around the society a lot, you will meet some people who seem to be stupid people and do not speak, but when they speak very wisely, it is what Confucius said: "Mrs. does not speak, words must be in the middle", this lady is not talking about other people's wives, husband is a virtual word. So, how do you know if he's a bodhisattva or not?

"Show hypocrisy, and be good and follow the scriptures." It looks like it's sycophancy, flattery, or cheating, but it's all convenient. Some people don't mention a single word of Buddha in their speech, but they talk about the Dharma. I often hope that you students can follow this kind of bodhisattva path, especially in today's era, when you talk about religion, you will have a big head. You don't have to preach the Dharma, you don't have to preach the sutras. As long as the truth is put in, it is to promote the Dharma. To put it mildly, this is "Qu Xue Ashi", which has changed the real Dharma to pat the sycophants of the masses in the world. But a person who practices the bodhisattva path is not afraid of these accusations, and he prefers to flatter sentient beings and express the essence of the Dharma in a skillful and convenient way. But you have to practice and be skillful and convenient, so that you don't follow the old path, otherwise you don't talk lightly about the Buddhist revolution.

"It is slow to show deeds, and it is like a bridge to all beings." It looks sluggish on the outside. Some of the older generations take this route, for example, Ouyang has no laymen, then he is slow, his temper is so big, the blood vessels in his forehead are blue, this kind of person must have a big temper, even Master Taixu came to see him, he refused to meet him, and he was slow to this extent. But he is so merciful, and if someone bows down to him, he will be scolded, but before you kneel to the ground, he has already knelt down to worship you. Do you think he still wants people to worship him? He worshipped. Although he is sluggish and looks down on anyone, but you really ask him sincerely, you kneel down, he is so old and kneeling faster than you, and his knees are still sounding on the ground. If a monk worships him, he will definitely remind them of the precepts of the monks: monks are not allowed to worship white-clothed laymen. Even though he says this, you have to know that the Mahayana bodhisattva vows are to worship good knowledge, which is not divided into laymen, monks, men and women, old and young. Although the bodhisattva shows slowness, it is a bridge to save sentient beings, and the slowness is used as an edification.
