Chapter 48: Shi Lulin Talks About Life, Three Beasts Tower Talks About Legends (Part II) (Page 1/1)

I saw these three pagodas, not only the base of the tower is tall, and are all three hundred feet high, and all are made of bricks and stones, although after many years of wind and sun, but the pagoda still shows his majestic posture, there are many small Buddha shrines in each layer, and this Buddha shrine is not enshrined in the Buddha statue, nor is it the Arhat posture, but a small animal.

Looking at this strange scene, Zhou Zeng took the lead in asking with a lot of doubts: "Master, I don't know why all the animals in these three pagodas are worshiped in these three shrines?" ”

"The envoy of Zhou asked the point, these three stupas pay homage to foxes, rabbits and apes, so they are called beast pagodas." Following Zhou Zeng's words, Master Xingming helped everyone answer their questions and solve their doubts.

"I would like to listen to the Master's detailed explanation," Wang Xuance politely asked Master Xingming for advice.

So, after clearing his throat, Venerable Xingming explained to them: "These three stupas are the places where the Buddha burned himself when he practiced bodhisattva practice, and later generations built these three stupas in order to commemorate him. In the early days of the Buddha's tribulation, in this wood, there was a clever fox, a docile rabbit, and a clever ape. Although the three little animals are not of the same kind, they love each other and are in harmony, often playing together and cultivating their minds.

At that time, Emperor Sha, seeing such a harmonious scene, wanted to test the Bodhisattva among the three beasts, so he went down to earth and became an old man. With a hungry gesture, he limped into the woods, and said to the three little animals, "Are you three still safe?" Are you afraid? ”

Listening to these three little animals, they replied in unison: "We play in the rich grass and dense forest, although it is a different species, but the heart is clear, so we are very happy, not only safe, but also very happy." ”

Hearing their words, the old man said: "I heard that the three of you are deeply affectionate, so I have come from a distant place to attach myself to you, despite my old age and infirmity, but unfortunately I am hungry and tired today, and I really can't move, can you entertain me with some food?" ”

These three little animals, because they all practice bodhisattva behavior, so they all uphold the basic good thoughts, and seeing that the old man is so weak, they once again replied in unison: "Please wait here, we will go and find food for you."

Hearing such a reply, the old man also smiled with satisfaction. Therefore, these three little animals, not only working together, but also desperately, divided into three ways and went separately to find food for the old man. The clever fox searched along the Brahmanis River, and in a short time he saw a carp on the surface of the water, and then, after thinking about it, he went into the water and caught a live carp and returned here.

The clever apes searched everywhere along this forest, one time on the tree, one time under the tree, and after a while, they also picked a lot of fresh exotic flowers and fruits, and returned here to let the old man eat.

And the docile rabbits, in this woods, searched and searched, looking at the small animals, but could not bear to kill them, so they could only return empty-handed.

Looking at the three of them, some caught fish, some picked fruits, and some returned empty-handed. Then the old man said to them, "It seems to me that there is no harmony between you. The little ape and the little fox have the same wisdom and taste, and they are able to do things with their hearts, and only the little rabbit returns empty-handed, and there is nothing for me to eat, from this matter, you can indeed understand the true nature of your heart, the little rabbit is not as good as the little ape and the little fox. ”

The little rabbit heard the old man's ridicule, so he said to the little ape and the little rabbit, "Let's work together to pile up more firewood and grass, and I will do something useful." So the three of them ran in a hurry, and in a short time they brought a lot of hay and a lot of firewood, and piled them together. At this time, I saw this little rabbit, lit this pile of firewood, and made him burn very vigorously. This scene also surprised them very much, what is this little rabbit going to do?

At this time, the little rabbit prayed, "O benevolent one, I am humble and clumsy, and it is difficult to find what you want, so please let me use my tiny body to serve as your meal." ”

As soon as the words fell, the little rabbit jumped into the fire with all his might, and burned to death in a short time. This scene suddenly surprised them. Immediately, the old man restored the original appearance of the Emperor of Heaven, removed the ashes with his own hands, cleaned up the bones of the little rabbit, and sighed sadly for a long time. So he said to the little fox and the little ape, "Why did you get this step? I was touched by his sincerity, and I could not bury his deeds, and I prepared to store him in the moon for posterity. ”

This little fox and little ape naturally agreed with Emperor Tian's idea. Since then, there has been a rabbit in the moon, and later people have built these three stupas to commemorate their good deeds......

Of course, this little rabbit, in the eyes of your Dongtu people, I heard that Master Xuanzang said that it was Chang'e's jade rabbit. In the eyes of my five Indian Buddhists, this rabbit is the embodiment of the Buddha's bodhisattva practice......

Hearing such an interesting story, everyone was also overjoyed, and they never thought that the jade rabbit in the moon would have such a touching scene. Although it is touching, this story once again makes everyone fall into thought, which is not only the Buddha's good intention of not wanting to kill, but also the Buddha's enterprising heart when practicing the bodhisattva practice......

"This is the greatness of the Buddha, no matter what kind of practice he does, he can sacrifice himself for others, even if he sacrifices his life, he will not hesitate to do it," Wang Xuance also said with emotion.

"Yes, this is where we ordinary people and the Buddha can not be compared, we can see the Buddha as the benchmark of our life, behave and do things, everywhere think that there are gods on this head, as long as we take the Buddha as an example, our life will be more meaningful and interesting." Master Xingming also said along with his words.

"What the master said is very good, this way, every time you go to a Buddha's relics, you can always feel a lot of the true meaning of life," Wang Xuance said with his words again.

"Virtuous people have their own merits, and virtuous people also have their own examples for us to learn" With Master Xingming's words, the activity of observing and saluting the Three Beasts Pagoda also came to an end temporarily.

The same moon, different stories, each nation has its own beautiful legend, for example, this moon, in our Chinese land, we all know that this jade rabbit is the pet of the fairy Chang'e, and in the land of five India, in the eyes of Buddhists, the jade rabbit is the sincere embodiment of the Buddha when he practiced the Bodhisattva......
