Chapter 54: Zhuangzi's Morality and Human Virtue (1)
The fifth chapter of the inner chapter of Zhuangzi, "De Chong Fu", mainly talks about morality, more precisely, about morality. Eight? One in one? Text≤≥≥.≈8≈1≤Z=≈.≈C≥OM
Zhuangzi's morality is not exactly the same as the morality used in modern times, and Zhuangzi's morality should be put in double quotation marks above the word Tao, which is relative to the virtue of "people", which is the virtue of the Tao, and should be the virtue of "Tao".
Morality! Needless to say! Everybody gets the idea. If we are not virtuous, we will be revived. When there are more unvirtuous people in society, the society will be very chaotic. So! We have to be virtuous.
Be a virtuous person, be a person with moral cultivation, self-cultivation, family harmony, governance of the country, and peace in the world. This is what Confucius and Confucius pursued all his life, so he became a saint and a master of all ages.
It does not mean that Confucius opened a private school to become a teacher, learn from him as a teacher, and take him as an example. But! Learn his principles of life. The "teacher of all ages" refers to the teacher in personality, the teacher who behaves in the world, not the teacher of the teacher.
How to interpret the three words "De Chong Fu" in Zhuangzi?
Morality! Needless to say, it is moral virtue. Full: the meaning of fullness and responsibility. Where should the virtue be full and be responsible for the "virtue full of symbols"? To which top? It should be filled to the top of the "symbol". Symbol: the meaning of a symbol or mark. To which symbol should virtue be filled and poured into?
Therefore! The original meaning of Zhuangzi's "virtue full symbol" comes out, and it should be filled and poured into the symbol of people. But! It is not just to be filled and poured into the symbol of man, but to be filled and poured into all things.
Why?
Because! Zhuangzi's virtue is great virtue, a "Tao" virtue, not a "human" virtue.
Zhuangzi De Chongfu is talking about asking us to stand on the height of the Tao to look at life, the universe, heaven and earth, and plan our life. So! It is called "Tao" virtue, and it becomes moral without double quotation marks.
The word morality in later generations may also originate from Lao Zhuang's original philosophical work, from Lao Tzu's "Tao Te Ching" and Zhuangzi's "Zhuangzi" book.
Unfortunately! Later generations only knew how to talk about "morality", but indulged in "human morality". I didn't look at the universe, heaven and earth, and life from the height of the Tao. Failure to plan one's life according to the original meaning of the word "morality" and to establish a correct outlook on life, the world, and the universe. But! It cannot jump out of the category of people, but is built on human morality. In terms of cognition, I limit the scope to myself. Nature! The gaze and realm are much smaller.
The fifth chapter of Zhuangzi's inner chapter, "Virtue Chongfu", talks about the relationship between morality and human morality, and talks about the different consequences brought about by morality and human morality.
I have read a lot of articles interpreting Zhuangzi's "De Chong Fu", because these interpreters have not understood Lao Tzu's "Dao" and the "Dao" of Lao Zhuang's philosophy, so when they interpret Zhuangzi's "De Chong Fu", they can't solve it at all, and they can't say why. Don't understand what this article is trying to say? What is the central idea? Even! They can't decipher the classic text behind each short story, either misinterpreting it or translating it literally. Outcome! It has nothing to do with the original meaning of Zhuangzi.
Behind the first five stories in "De Chong Fu", there are the most classic interpretations. Outcome! Because later generations of interpreters did not understand the "Tao", all the interpretations were "incorrect", and they all became nonsense.
Hui Shi and Zhuangzi talk about "love" at the end of "De Chong Fu", which is the final summary of this article, allowing us to return to reality and return to "human morality". Zhuangzi's meaning is: Standing on the level and height of the Tao, people are ruthless. Because man, like all things, is just one species. But! At the level and height of people, people are sentient. How can people be ruthless if they are not plants and trees?
Since most readers have not understood the "Tao" in Lao Zhuang's philosophy, when they read "De Chong Fu", they have no idea what this article is about.
In order to facilitate those who have not correctly interpreted the article "De Chong Fu" to interpret and understand it correctly, we have to briefly talk about the "Tao" in Lao Zhuang's philosophy, the Tao of Taoism.
The Word is the source of everything!
Heaven, earth and the universe all come from the Tao.
What is the Word?
The Tao is change!
Everything is through change and evolution. Lao Tzu named this change "Dao".
The Tao also has the meaning of a road, and there is no end.
Tao also refers to something concrete, and it can also be all things and everything. Everything is the Tao, and everything is the Tao. Because! Only the physical object will change, how can it change without the physical object?
Many people should know about the "theory of evolution", right?
Taoists believe that everything is evolved. Heaven, earth, sun and moon have all evolved, but we will never be able to trace what evolved for the time being. So! The Taoists named this "evolution" or "change" Tao.
The word Tao is not easy to explain, but! Once you understand what the Tao is, you will understand the philosophy of Lao Zhuang very well. Whatever you explain, you can understand it. For those with good understanding, one or two examples will be enough to understand. And for stupid pigs, the more you explain them, the more confused they become.
Taoism believes that human beings, like all things, come from between heaven and earth, and are produced under the action of heaven and earth. Heaven and earth are the parents of us human beings and the parents of all things. So! We are brothers and sisters with all things in heaven and earth, and we are equal.
When we have the Taoist "Tao", we have a correct view of the universe. And then! Let's establish a correct outlook on the world and life.
When we have a correct view of the universe, the world, and the outlook on life, do we have virtue?
Morality! The standard of life! The code of conduct and psychological scale of life and things.
In this way, there may still be people who don't understand what virtue is. In fact, virtue is a kind of social norm, a social norm and convention that everyone abides by, including the norms stipulated by the law and the norms established by convention.
This interpretation of virtue is still incomplete, nor is it Taoist morality.
The virtue of Taoism is not the virtue needed for social management, but! Virtue extended according to the theory of Tao is commonly known as "morality". Social morality is based on the social values of different periods and extends the "public morality", which has different content and requirements in different periods, different countries, regions, and different environments.
And the virtue of Taoism is eternal.
Taoism requires us to deal with people and things according to the "Tao" virtues, and only in this way can we solve the problems of social chaos and solve the troubles of life.
First of all, I will briefly talk about the virtues of Taoism, and then analyze the virtues mentioned in the "De Chong Fu".
First of all, a brief talk about Taoist virtue will also help to understand the "De Chong Fu".
Taoism believes that human beings and all things come from the Tao, from the heavens and the earth, and like all things between the heavens and the earth, they are just a species, a species materialized by the Tao. So! Human beings do not want to dominate all things, do not be delusional.
From this, it follows that human beings, like all things, are just a species, born at the right time and die at the wrong time. Not only are men going to die, but sooner or later they are going to perish. This is not fatalism, it is not the promotion of terrorist ideas, but a fact that must be accepted.
Since man is going to die, all the strife in the world is meaningless. But! That's not what Taoism means, but! It is necessary for us to give up superfluous and unnecessary pursuits, and then live happily and dutifully.
It is true that people are going to die, but they give us a process of life. We still have decades to live in our lives, and we can't give up the process of life because we are going to die eventually, right? Isn't it?
And also! Life is still interesting, we have experienced the love of family and the love given by parents and elders through childhood, adolescence, youth, middle age, and old age. We have also experienced the youth of falling in love, getting married and having children, raising and educating children, enjoying the joy of family, etc., the content of life is very rich, and it cannot be said that it is not interesting.
If we stand on the level of the Word, life is eternal. Because! This thing dies and the other thing lives, and life is endless. Isn't it?
