Chapter 1042: Bodhisattva Walk (3)
There is a story in the Buddhist scriptures about a bodhisattva who specialized in the practice of almsgiving, and when the heavenly beings wanted to test him, they took the form of a child and cried out to this bodhisattva.
Of course, the Bodhisattva asked him what was the matter, and the child said that his mother was blind in one eye, and the doctor said that he could change his eye, but it was only necessary for the Bodhisattva's eyes to use it.
When the bodhisattva heard this, he gouged out his right eye and gave it to him on the spot; The celestial beings deliberately said, alas, the doctor said that it must be the left eye of the Bodhisattva.
The Bodhisattva thought for a moment, he dug too fast just now, and he knew that he would not dig in vain if he asked first, but since he was cultivating the method of almsgiving, he still gouged out his left eye and gave it to him.
That knows that the celestial man said, this time you hesitated when you gouged out your eyes, and the effect was gone, and this left eye could not be used!
You see, how hard it is to give! How can we claim to be a Buddhist student? At least I'm reluctant to give my eyes out.
But I've seen a lot of people in society, who aren't necessarily Buddhists, but who act like bodhisattvas, who really sacrifice themselves, who don't want anything about that thing or that thought.
If you still have to think about it, then it becomes an act of doing business, and it is not a bodhisattva path.
It is too difficult to give alms without asking for anything, and sometimes when I see people in difficulty, I generously help them on the spot, and when I look back, alas! Why did I give it all to him?
With this thought, if you donate 10 million just now, it is not considered merit.
It's like the bodhisattva donating his eyes, it's useless to think about it.
The third type of fearless giving is even more difficult.
People are constantly in the midst of troubles and fears, for example, some of you feel that the future is uncertain, which is a kind of fear.
To give fearlessly is to dispel the fears of others.
I often say that sometimes when I meet someone who is desperate and is about to commit suicide, I say to him, "Wait three days, and there will be a solution within three days."
Actually, I am not sure at all about this, and I am guilty of lying according to the precepts.
But he got spiritual support, and he didn't want to die after a day and a half, and I would rather break the vows.
This lie saved him, it is fearless generosity, and really fearless generosity is the behavior of a great statesman and a great savior.
Lao Tzu said, "After the body and the body first, the outside of the body and the body." ”
You put yourself aside and seek everyone's interests first.
Everyone has interests, then I'm not afraid of no interests.
Why do the six paramitas ask us to give alms in the first place?
To give is to give alms, that is, the local language "let go" that the Zen patriarch later spoke.
We are reluctant everywhere, not only our belongings, our lives, but even our reputation.
So the first fundamental problem of sentient beings is pity.
Saving is the psychological behavior of greed, it is the innate self-possessiveness of people, possessing others to achieve their own greatness, possessing others to achieve their own wealth, because of possession, they naturally become stingy and greedy.
By the standards of the world, if a person does not work hard to earn money from other people's pockets into his own pocket, this person will not be productive.
Therefore, people who can do business have first-class minds, he does not rely on stealing or robbing, but he can earn the money in your pocket and me into his pocket, and you and I are willing to pay him, which is a great ability.
However, this psychology is greed, that is, possession.
To give is to cure the sorrowful, to get rid of greed, to get rid of possession, to give relief to others what they have and what they have.
It should be corrected to say that the spirit of true charity does not even have the concept of relief, which is an arrogant attitude, feeling that they are higher than others, because they are poor and only giving, then it is not true charity, even if they donate hundreds of billions of family wealth, there is still no merit.
But is there any repercussion?
Of course, there are good results, but there are also bad things in the good.
There is no compassion in this poor mentality, which is the belief that giving is the right thing to do, and to treat him as my parents, my children, my most beloved people.
And it is important not to feel heartache after giving, and not to "give generously but calmly pay hard".
"Get rid of all evil, and purify your body and mouth."
The above talks about generosity, which is good, and here it talks about eliminating evil.
