0290, the past and present life of the third generation of fighters
Speaking of this, Lin Chao paused.
"You guessed correctly, this model is the now famous J-10 fighter.
At the end of 1981, Zou Jiahua, then deputy director of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, suggested to Comrade Xiaoping. The research and development of a new generation of fighter aircraft is expected to have an initial investment of 500 million yuan. With the consent of Comrade Xiaoping, the research and development of the third-generation Huaxia aircraft officially began.
At that time, it was mainly the J-13 program and the Qiang-6 derivative program. In the 70s of the last century, the Air Force, based on the experience of the Vietnam War, considered it necessary to develop a small and flexible medium and low-altitude fighter to replace the outdated J-6. This is the "No. 2 mission", which was developed by the 601 Institute.
The Qiang-6 is a rear-variable swept wing strike aircraft, and the technical source is the MiG-23MS obtained through secret channels in 1979. By this time, its development had been discontinued. However, the Huaxia Air Force was very interested in the rear-change swept wing, so on the basis of the strong sixth, the Hongdu Institute, which was responsible for the research and development, changed a fighter plane program.
However, the structure of the strong 6 is complex, the weight is large, the reliability is poor, and the strength of Hongdu is limited, so the strong 6 derivative scheme is not optimistic. In this way, the J-13 program of the 601 Institute can be said to be a sure victory.
But at this time, an unexpected thing happened. The 611 institutes that came to participate in the review meeting actually came up with a plan for the new annihilation.
At first, the 611 Institute had nothing to do with the new fighters, and the Ministry of Aviation did not even notify them to come up with a plan for review. It was not until later that the 611 Institute was temporarily notified to send four people to participate in the review of the new fighter aircraft.
Mr. Song Wencong, as a representative of the 611 Institute, attended the meeting. He also unexpectedly got a chance to take a break. A 15-minute report on the new fighter plan of the 611 Institute was published.
It was these 15 minutes that completely shook the situation that 601 was bound to win. Song Lao started with how to fight in future wars, put forward what functions the new fighter plane must have, and then transferred to the 611 canard plan.
Because, it happened suddenly. They didn't even make a model, but they won the applause of the audience with a few slides made by working overtime and Song Lao's narration.
After several days of heated debate, the review committee did not make a decision, but asked the two parties to continue to refine their respective plans and hold another debate meeting two months later.
The 611 schools that received the news were full of joy. Since there is a wind tunnel base in the southwest, they pooled all their resources, refined the proposed No. 10 plan, and came up with four alternatives.
In April 1982, the second selection meeting was held as scheduled, and after a heated debate between the 601 Institute and the 611 Institute, everyone finally leaned towards the 611 Institute's duck layout plan, especially the military's attitude was even more one-sided.
In 1984, after repeated debates, it was determined that the overall units for the development of new fighter aircraft were 611 and 132 factories. In June of the same year, the 611 Institute and the Air Force finally agreed on the indicators of the new fighter. The Air Force is required to equip its troops in 2000 to the level of the F-16 and MiG-29 in general. Others include high-altitude high-speed, over-the-horizon and so on. In short, all the demands that the Air Force could think of were put forward. ”
Hearing this, someone said:
"That's too harsh, isn't it?"
Lin Chao smiled:
"What is this, in January 1986, the 10th project was officially launched. Mr. Song Wencong began to carry out drastic reforms in the scientific research system of fighter aircraft, which touched the interests of many people. Some people even ran to provoke, saying that you will not be able to make a J-10 in your life. ”
At this point, the surrounding audience was furious.
"Phew, why do we Huaxia people always produce such scum."
"Yes! Externally it is commonplace, but internally it is a hundred times smarter. ”
"The infighting is really the end of Huaxia's death."
Lin Chao waved his hand, waited until his voice calmed down, and then continued:
"Don't say it, the J-10 really almost got off the horse. The policy at that time was that army building gave way to local economic development, and military spending was naturally seriously reduced. The J-10 also led to a stagnation in the development work due to financial problems. It was not until General Liu Huaqing inspected Chengfei that he was able to improve to a certain extent.
But this was not the main difficulty, in addition to the cynicism of the peers, the attitude of the army has also changed. In particular, in 1989, when the Military Commission organized a delegation to the Soviet Union, the SU-27SK fighter left an extremely shocking impression on the Huaxia Air Force.
It was proposed to dismount the J-10 fighter and save money to buy the SU-27. At this juncture, General Liu Huaqing once again expressed his attitude that no matter how good the Su-27 is, it is also someone else's child. J-10 No matter what, no matter how difficult it is, you have to keep doing it!
Despite this support, it took a full 8 years, and the J-10 is still lying on the drawings, and it is still unknown when it will be completed. For this reason, the 611 Institute decided to build an all-metal prototype at all costs.
On August 27, 1991, the prototype of the J-10 was assembled. At this time, it was only a full-scale model, with no equipment, no piping. However, its modern appearance, conquered the leadership of the Air Force and was supported by them.
But just when everyone was ready to do a big job, Project 10 had an accident again. This time it is a more difficult problem, the supporting turbojet-15 engine is seriously dragging its feet, and it is still far from imitation.
General Zhang Aiping, then Minister of National Defense, proposed to simply buy more AL-31F engines for the J-10. However, this opinion was opposed by the 601 Institute and the Ministry of Aviation Industry, and some people even complained that the foreign leaders were also experts, and changing the engine was not changing the car tires, which had to be redesigned!
Just when the two sides were arguing, General Liu Huaqing was so angry that he slapped the table, and he had to change! It has to be replaced!
In 1992, Mr. Song Wencong went to Russia as a plenipotentiary to negotiate. In order to adapt to the J-10, the AL-31F engine has made several improvements, and this model is the AL-31FN.
And in order to adapt to it, the J-10 made greater improvements, and the air intake tract was changed from an unadjustable elliptical air intake to a rectangular adjustable air intake. The fuselage has been lengthened, and the center of gravity has been trimmed and adjusted, which is equivalent to tearing down and restarting.
No one expected that the Air Force would put forward higher requirements. The J-10 must form a high and low match with the SU-27, and its maneuverability must be comparable to that of the SU-27.
As a result, the aerodynamic shape must also be adjusted. The 611 Institute once again overturned the design, and on the basis of the original, more new technologies were used, such as external double ventral fins and so on.
After so many twists and turns, the prototype of the J-10 began production in August 1995, the construction of the new aircraft was completed on June 2, 1997, and the first flight of the J-10 was completed on March 23, 1998. ”
"Whew!"
The audience finally breathed a sigh of relief.
They always thought that the appearance of the J-10 was logical, who knew that there would be such twists and turns.
"But ......."
But at this moment, Lin Chao spoke again, and the audience's hearts instantly tightened.
"At this time, there are still people who do not trust the J-10 fighter. They put forward a slogan to fight for the first, with two seven, if they want to win, they want three zeros. It is required to stop the development of the J-10 and purchase SU-27 and SU-30 fighters. This time, it went straight to the top. In 1999, the chief inspected the 132 plant, and the future of the J-10 became confusing again. ”
